In lieu of the courage it took to make Ms. Joli's decision, I found myself wondering: "Which is more important, looks or health?" Me? I'd agree with Ms. Jolie... one's health.
What do others think?
Oh no D: can I choose both?
Since I can't, I would have to say that one's health is most important.
Health, of course. Looks don't mean nothing if you haven't health. But if you have health, you can do more and more each day.
I agree with what ImperfectAngel says, in a way.
Angelina Jolie is gorgeous and has been beautiful without the modifications she has done. Bountiful breasts don't make someone gorgeous..
Good looks also don't make someone beautiful, when they can be hideous on the inside.
I admire and applaud Angelina for what she has done.
Saying this, health is more important in my view.
I totally believe health is more important, glowing health is far more beautiful... besides looks fade.
Health. But looking like a devil doesn't hurt either.
*sighz*
to take away what made her famous, for the sake of her health; when so many pump themeslves with silicone... yes, not only do I admire her... I respect what she did.
Health is waaaay more important, I think.
All I have to say is "Liposuction", and "Botox" . The extreme measures some go to for an image.
may as well give themselves over to the cult of celebrity... "Oh... they do."
I would have to say health but not because of what Joli did. I normally don't give a rats ass about anything to do with her but I have to give her some credit for what she did.
Seeing that I have had severe back problems the past three years, I would go for health. When one is in good health, so much more can be done and achieved in life.
JayesGhost... you said it.
I mean, even after her op, the hassle's still in her family...
{Oh... how I wish her well.}
having seen the Lady, in question being interviewed...
I am delighted to see she looked in 'good health.'
Health every time. If I had breast cancer and they wanted to do a mastectomy, I'd happily sign the forms.
Health all the way. I too admire what she did for herself and her family. To give her mate and children peace of mind that there mother will be around awhile such a blessed gift of security for her family.
I remember Fay Weldon's Life and Loves of a She Devil. the protagonist has extensive cosmetic surgery so she can look exactly like the beautiful woman who stole her husband. as a result, she has shortened her life and is in constant pain.
I felt that in a sense she had utterly failed - this was not a triumph but a defeat, because she had sacrificed her self simply for revenge, so those she loathed were still making her suffer.
a life of poor health and excruciating pain is not worth anything, and good looks are only temporary anyway. sure, there are one or two people who retain good looks into their fifties or even sixties - but they are rare.
i would happily trade my good looks to be free from my pain - unfortunately i'm ugly too, so nothing to trade really.
wish you chose not to accept the label 'ugly'...
it's something 'normal' people say...
My respect to You.
**
I admire what she did because of the conversations that have followed her action.
I really admire her. Being a BC survivor myself, if I'd have been positive for BRCA, I'd have done the same thing. So, definitely health and I think she is much more stunning because of her choice and her willingness to discuss it openly and be a champion for women's health. I find myself with a different opinion of her than I'd had previously.
bit of a no-brainer really. a mastectomy may, or may not adversely affect her career, but if she dies her career is quite definitely over.
a no-brainer true... but look at how many poisen themselves with botox... and, docs used it to poisen my Mum's neck, to help her keep her head straight... harsh stuff that...
so, health or looks?
... am feeling f**ked and older than I am, Today.
So, I reitterate what I said, "Health -- deffo."
...if all these respondants were a marker of society, there's be no cosmetics industry: and, no plastic surgery.
another...! swear down, you'd imagine the 'beauty industry' might die away... nah, too many gullible people in the world.
need another thread. this is kinda more like an either, or...
me? still good health.
everyone would like both, but the question was...
"Which is more important, looks or health?"
Always health. Id rather be healthy and ugly than pretty and a mess lol, to put it drastically I mean, of course I would prefer both *grins*
I would rather not be huffing and puffing from walking and going up steps than looking great in a bikini. Too much weight can also do a number on your legs and you can't walk.
You have to be healthy to be good looking. I go for healthy easily.
as someone who considers he has neither, I do emphasise...
"health"
health is most impiranat ofcourse, but one does have to feel good about ones self as well. However, I think it is important just to belive in yourself, and be happy with yourself, and the rest will all fall into place. If you belive that you are beautiful, then everyone else around you will see that inner bauty, and it will reflect on the outisde as well.
IF I have to choose I wil choose Health over beauty, as I always but my health first.
I have always said if your healthy , "looks" will take care of themselves.
Health, rather be able to enjoy life without pain, being able to breathe and walk. Having my nails done might make me feel good but it won't do much good if I can't get around.
I like somethng someone said there "A life without pain."
yeah yeah, health.
Health.
I could careless if I was attractive- My health is my utmost importance. I want to live a long life.
Health. I personally am NOT healthy but, I'm working on it.:)
