I have seen many signs & symbols which are said to represent the different vampire clans. Can anyone tell me where any of these came from & if they have a specific meaning?
THE LEGACY ANKH: Here is a little about it
"The Legacy Ankh is the best known sigil of the vampyre / vampire community. Originally the Legacy Ankh was consecrated to represent common sense vampyric (Strigoi Vii) principles that have been forgotten and lost. Many of which were included into the various drafts of the Black Veil and fully detailed in one place or listed together. Some older individuals may not remember all of these, however do your research as they appear throughout Sanguinarium & Strigoi Vii history. The Legacy Ankh represents the Black Veil, Strigoi Vii edition. "

Thank you RAAGIOSL. Do you have information about any more of the symbols associated with the different clans, in particular why they look the way they do?
The Ankh of Noctem Aeternus is a combination of the Strigoi Vii Ankh and a Gargoyle wich sits on top.
The reason I designed it this way is because the Gargoyle is a symbol of a guardian or protector.
The Strigoi Vii is e symbol of the Vampyric Community, combine together it symbolizes the guardians of the vampyric people.
Sorry I don't think I made my question very clear. I wasn't referring to the clans on VR more to the clans such as the Brujah, Malkavain, Tremere etc from Masquerade. Also do 'Real' vampire clans have signs/symbols?
yeah, they do, but as far as where to find them, you'd have to search for your local Houses and whatnot and learn what their symbols are.
I think the signs and symbols you refer to are the ones created by White Wolf publishing for the "Vampire the Masquerade" game. There are 13 original vampire clans and each has a symbol, as well as a detailed clan history. You may find some of these books by searching online book sellers, as they are no longer in print. There are many books in the series under BOOKS in the VR Data Base.
DemianA is correct.. many symbols are for the clans from Vampire: The Masquerade by White Wolf Publishing. Also, many symbols are from the movie and comicbook, Blade.
Like what was mentioned, the specialized ankh is a recognized symbol for vampires.
As stated above, seems the Ankh is used alot. However, originally, the Ankh is the symbol for eternal life, and is not a vampire symbol .They just use it because it means eternal life...
If I were you, I would do a study on the Akashic records, it may help in a strong variety of ways.
Yes, but for those who do not take the time to study certain aspects of lifes knowledge, then no...It would not be common sense to these individuals.
Higher learning requires individual abilities and concepts gained from the above stated.
Ok here goes ..again.But seriously it wont matter how many questions you ask,it will only keep going in circles if you do not take the initiative to do a little footwork and at least get the basics down.
Enjoy!

no and I am not a gamer this is who and what I am. the path I walk
well, i understand the question, but other than that Masquerade game... i would also like to know if there are real houses with their own symbols...
that´s new for me...
yes there are my house being one of them there are many others
Thank you Oceanne, as always a fountain of knowledge. Yes I'd like to know how these symbols relate to the real world of vamps
LordOfNoctemAeternus - thank you also for the information. Can you give me any more symbols used in real vampire clans?
RaineVampire - yes that's what I was asking.
I would think it would have a personal meaning to that particular clan on how their symbols and meanings are depicted to their rituals and values similar to our covens and houses here.
Yes i'd like to know what these meanings are. Symbols interest me.
People keep using the word 'clan' because of the gaming it seems.
Vampires that have bound together to form their own house will make up a symbol that best describes their thoughts and believes - what is important to them.
well said LumiyaOfTheSith
Vampires that have bound together to form their own house will make up a symbol that best describes their thoughts and believes - what is important to them.
as far as posting others house symbols I am sorry I can not I can only speak for my self and my house.
as far as the others go it would be rude for me to do so and I would be braking the veil.
I need for them to give me the go a head first.
ALL-SEEING EYE: A universal symbol representing spiritual sight, inner vision, higher knowledge, insight into occult mysteries. Look at your $1 bill.
ALCHEMY: This simple 17th century "sign" illustrates the blending of geometric shapes -- circle, triangle, square -- representing the various "elements" needed for spells and magic. It's interesting to note that some of the more popular occult computer games also involve "elements" needed for magic and spell-casting.
ANARCHY: Popular among school aged children today, this symbol for anarchy fits the message that pervades the most popular video games, role-playing games, movies and television. The lines of the "A" often extend outside the circle. To many satanists and other fast-growing occult groups it represents their slogan, "do what thou wilt." A former occultist explained that it represents the ASMODEAS: a demonic force driving teenagers toward sexual perversion and suicide.
ANKH: An Egyptian cross symbolizing a mythical eternal life, rebirth, and the life-giving power of the sun
I wonder why the Houses and Covens on here are animal related?
I believe it is a requisite for that in the main symbol representing the house that is under our avatars. The sire's mark is their own that will compliment the house mark.
ITALIAN HORN (Cornu, Cornicello, Wiggly Horn, Unicorn horn, Lucifier's horn or Leprechaun staff). The ancient magical charm or amulet worn in Italy as protection against "evil eye" has also been linked to Celtic and Druid myths and beliefs. Other superstitions link it to sexual power and good luck. It is often worn with a cross (for double protection or luck?). In pre-Christian Europe, animal horns pointed to the moon goddess and were considered sacred.
I never heard it called a Leprechaun staff before, hmmm..it looks a little like the staff that was used in, "Lord of the Rings" 'though.
If anyone cares to see more Symbols and Their Meanings just go there some are quite facinating
marajade... I thought that was neat thats why I posted it!
In fact I never knew it was related to the supernatural world at all. It is quite popular in ladies jewellry :)
When I was dating the Italian boys I had no idea either until I just saw it myself... LOL
it is kind of like the penticle...
each point stands for an element
THANK YOU PolishSiren. That's the sort of thing I was looking for. I used to have one of those leprechauns staff things on a necklace - lol!
LordOfNoctemAeternus - I fully understand & respect this.
Plus remember any of your local societies have their own symbols too...... it's not limited to what you all have come up with here. There are many symbols which represent many societies and are used for specific and general purposes.
I have seen several Vampire houses use the Ankh in their logos. We all know that the Ankh represents eternal life.I am wondering if however there might be another meaning behind it.. such as eternal struggle..just a thought.
Saw one once of an egg with the eternity bands around it.Ever hear of that one?
No,I dont,i found that in an old book.It was from a hause in the Carpathian mountains.
Of course,it doesnt suprise me,because of the use of easter eggs in the Ukraine.
Oceanne - not just the Ukraine its the Slavik countrys Poland, Romania, etc ... I have one I created thats on my profile actually ...
yes..Scythia....You know all about that Im sure. ;)I will have to go look at your pro..you have an egg on there?
yes! lol my first attemp at graphic software ... I created an animated polish easter egg
I actually made that one with a scanned patch of a polish eagle
carpathian mountains are not possesed... where did you hear that from?
Thank you Stabb66 for reopening this thread, hopefully we can get back on the topic.
Anyway, I hadnt noticed much about the game symbols,as I do not play them. But after looking I found that there are some correlations to some realvamp sybols I have found. What I see as a reoccuring theme is the depiction of eternal life..or later, eternal struggle.Anyone have any thoughts on that?
Also,if one goes to look at Ancient Ukranian script, you will see that there are several correlations there as well.
I found a really great link using keywords of eternal life and struggle and got this Holy Symbols of Germanic Heathenry
it has totem animal symbols and their meanings
the book I dragged off my shelf Symbols and their Meanings by Jack Tresidder for
the EGG = Creation
than it goes on with a myth and folklore which I'm not going to bore anyone.
O_o my html generater isnt working.I will post some pix here as soon as I can get it to cooperate.
PolS,you come from a part of the world that would be considered the seat of the Vampire nation to many.
here is a page that has a great Visual Glossary of Religious Symbols
Yes that is a good link thanks,I have that one too.And off the bat,I wanted to point out the symbol of Lucifer..it is similar to some older Vampire symbols I have found and very much resembles components in the Danube script.
well I would love to have the honour to be a Vampire Queen if one would have me. .... Thats to say if there are still ones who even have a shred of honor themselves.
I think thats why many people get facinated with these symbols and their meanings because no one values them any longer for their true importance.
Here is a link to the symbols in that game..
http://www.white-wolf.com/darkspiral/HTML/v_clansymbols.html
Personally PolS. I think it might be momre because the meanings have become lost over time.A perfect example of this is the Swaztika..That is what heppens when traditions are lost.
or that the meanings have been twisted ... one of those links taht I posted actually have a swaztika with the true meaning of it and its all good
Vampire: Evolving from the basic belief in the necessity of blood for life, it was commonly believed that feeding blood to dead spirits could turn them into the “un-dead” or vampires. Barbara Walker, in her book, The Woman’s Encyclopedia Of Myths And Secrets (1983), explains, “The primal notion that all life depends on the magic of menstrual blood—or ‘the blood of Moon,’ as some primitives say—evolved a corresponding notion that the dead crave blood in order to make themselves live again.” The moon was connected to vampires as their provider of vital life force (Walker, 1983).

There are several symbols which are related to this.
sorry... the first link that I posted ... there are 3 of them the first one is the neo-nazi on of Hitler's and than 2 others that are good
Yes, amazing how they can also change direction of meaning. So far however,Im not finding, nor have I ever found, that The Swaztika has any place in Vamp symbolism.I could be wrong,I just havent found anything to that effect.I think I am goping to drop that one for now though...dont want to open this up to a whole Hitler disscussion.
neither do I..............
I guess with Vampirism it would be what culture and symbols that they wish to represent their customs depending on their location, heritage beliefs etc.
Hey all sorry to keep disappearing on you it's just that i'm in the UK so different time here!
Oceanne - thanks for keeping the thread open!
Yes the forgotten meanings behind various signs & symbols intreague me. I guess that's why I enjoyed the book 'The Da Vinci Code' so much.
othis - do you know why your house chose the rose to represent it?
PolishSiren - thanks - another great website, i've just spent ages on there looking at the meanings of all the different symbols (does that make me a bit of a geek?) lol!
Ok sorry got a bit confused with this are the symbols or glyphs something that hollywood has invented or has it always been part of the vampire myth? i had never heard of them before the masquerade.
no, no no, this is not from role-playing games or popular fiction. please be aware of this. if you doubt, Google such things and you will not only see books on the subject, but examples.
modern Houses have their own symbols that they use and wear proudly, in jewelry, rings, tattoos...it is a way of proudly displaying who you are and who your vampirical "family" is.
Right Kontradiction. But what I think we presented is a bit of both.We presented some older stuff as well as the new,and included the WhiteWolf symbols. The egg example I spoke of was extremely old.PolS presented a symbol site which includes many symbols from alot of things both new and old.
So my question to you is,are the WhiteWolf symbols rpg or are you saying they are real? Or am I just way off here?
yes vampire clans do have symbols. each clan has been around since the beginning of vampires. they all ave ancient symbols that represent them.

Just a little side note, reading through here:
The Italian Horn was originally a charm worn by mothers and young men to protect them from Lillith.
Nightgod - do you have any examples of these ancient symbols & do you know the meanings of where they came from?
alastordarc - thats an interesting tid-bit, are you Italian?
There are many signs and symbols from various cultures, myths, legends, religions that can be used based on their meanings for modern houses to use to represent what they are about. I think it's a great idea. Be creative and personal - not take something from a movie.
Some could have just been invented by the clan themselves, or taken from something much older than they.
i do believe in symbols every symbol has a meaning- purpose
Your basic road sign, hazard signs/symbols, for example. You see them every day, everywhere.
Each house and coven here has them. There are ones recognizable around the world and then those unique ones that only a few would know.
Very well put, Sith.
Anything could be used as the symbol of a vampire clan.
True, anything can be used to associate with 'you'......./And not necessarily use the name clan.. family, house, club even, be more unique and not have to always use clan that White Wolf used.
The malkavian Symbol is a cracked mirror.Distortion of perception
