Rhapsody of the Neutral Ground Girl

21:41 Apr 28 2008
Times Read: 1,328

Like the daguerreotype eyes of a child across time

She does not weep when she speaks.

Framed by a doorway of Basin Street,

She haunts the red-light memory

And hushed whispers of old men

Who play saxophone blues in the heat,

Shirtsleeves clinging to their skin.

With a New Orleans voice of pottery shards,

She does not weep when she speaks,

Dancing with cobwebs in her hair

From a doorway of Basin Street,

Clinging there

Like lace on a fine lady’s coat

Or Spanish moss set to sway

On a mad old oak that stands alone.

She wears ballet shoes on her hands

And hums a rusty rhyme,

Keeping time

With the pleading saxophone notes

That moan and weep when they speak

Into the corners of porches

And the sepia-eyes of a woman who dreams

When she dances with ballet shoes on her hands,

Haunting a doorway of Basin Street

And the whispery fears of men in shirtsleeves,

Sweating in the mad heat of a New Orleans beat.

Yeah you right! That even smells like pralines and gumbo. And it feels humid, and perfect.

I absolutely love it. It comes to me as a song. It's wonderful.

I'll read this one over and over again, and again.

What very little I know of New Orleans I have learned from your words, through your senses.

Beautiful; beautiful and compelling.

Wonderfully written - like some else said, feels like a song, could be a song very easily. I love the way the words sort of chase one another, in a musical succesion - almost like a drum beat.

Beautiful.

"What Dreams May Come"

16:46 Apr 16 2008
Times Read: 1,441

On my hands and knees, I am a new creature,

A creature of this earth, born of the soil

That stains my hands and streaks my face.

My hair is jeweled by the nod of a young oak

And the West Wind whose fingers nimbly braid

Falling leaves into the tangled tresses

That fan out behind me while I press holes

Into the ground and fill them with promises.

I love the feel of smoothing the soil

Back across each new bed, brushing the earth

With the palm of my hand, like the fur

Of the sun-warmed dog who lies at my feet

Even now, sniffing the turned dirt. My good boy.

On my hands and knees, I am an ancient creature,

Called to love this earth, to ready her soil

For the beds of all who will sleep within her womb

A while, dreaming the promises she will keep

In the world which belongs still to tomorrow.

Very few people could make working the earth seem to be such a spiritual experience.

Would you notice?

Vampire Rave - The Ultimate Vampire Resource and Directory - http://www/VampireRave.com

The world has grown up around me

And I have lost myself in it.

The harder places have been pulled away

And devoured.

What is forever when the body aches

And the mind seeks oblivion?

Oh, but each song the wind sings

Is sweeter than the last.

I die piece by piece across the years

That I wear more deeply each day.

I am the blossom that teases your eye.

I am the shade that comforts your fevered soul.

I am the twig beneath your boot.

I am the dark soil of your rest.

Seek me. Love me. Spit upon me. Know me.

I know you. Be one with me.

We will be many and the wind will sing to us

When the world is pulled away
