Of Parchment and Breath

04:58 Jul 16 2009
Times Read: 1,357

My scars are the stories

Recorded on my flesh

By the Great Story Teller

Written in a language forgotten

To all but my lover

Who reads there the tale of love

Lifted from my body

To breathe again the first breath

And open her eyes in wonder

Once again,

Listening to the song of the universe

As it sings a lullabye

In my voice,

A mother's song

Of love

And loss

And hope

I like it but do you mean emotional or physical scars, sorry just trying to identify harder with the poem

I don't know but I identified so hard with that poem that I have to wear big sunglasses for a week now.

Well, I know what it meant to me, but when you read it, you bring your thoughts and experiences to it and it will hopefully talk to you in a personal way. There's no "right" way to read it :)

I really like this. I don't know why but it stirred an almost nostalgic sense in my gut mixed with a sort of sad happiness. Very nice.

"Wearing the face that she keeps in a jar by the door"

19:12 Jul 06 2009
Times Read: 1,402

Flower scents

Fishing lures

Perfume

Sexy curves

Bird calls

Mating dance

Craft the words just so. My welcome mat, curb appeal, siren song, won't you come in? Would you like a cup of tea?

You smell nice.

Dim the lights.

Tell me I'm beautiful, want me, see me, damn you, see me, see me. God, please see me.

I went ghost hunting in Natchez,

In the deep south of cotton and rails

Looking for signs

In hallways and cemeteries,

Laden with maps and camera straps,

Speaking to the past

And entreating it forward

Because I cannot touch you.

I went seeking spirits

In the river and hills

And found none but the one I brought.

You won't stay in your box,

The one with my good garnet earrings

Where I laid you these many summers past.

Stop the clocks.

Cover the mirrors.

I opened the shutters;

The summer night breathes

And the lace curtain flutters

On each parsimonious exhale

While I sit deeply entranced,

As surely haunted as any antebellum home

With my own dubious history -

Unsynched, untethered to time

Like an attic window of an era gone by,

A frame for your form to lean against

And peer through to a world we no longer dream.

Hmm, enchanting. I hope you know that if I ever take another lit. class I'll be looking over your poetry for my assignments instead of Frost or Dickinson like I did last time.

I like the shift in tempo. Like a drumbeat switched up from something fast to slow, the interlude I guess. Fun read Jo. Nice.

.. this is beautiful. It would work so well with the images I've recently taken. Your usage and command of language, imagination, and choices of words always blows my mind.

She seeks me.

I languish a lifetime

And die in the moment

Spent longing for her.

She seeks me.

It is all that I wish for

And more than I can bear.

Perfect :) Most people can relate to that... currently, or at some point in their life.
