So yesterday one of my Surrogate Nieces texted me asking if I could drive her 45 minutes North to an airport and oh, can she stay with me until she flies out next week to relocate with her family? That's why she needs a ride to the airport.
Then my Brother snatches the phone and proceeds to tell me that he flew back from the East Coast after setting up things there to relocate his family (minus the youngest Daughter who is staying here with her BoyFriend) and plans to drive everyone back to the East Coast, however, one of the planned vehicles was totaled and the Oldest Daughter needs a ride to the Airport and a place to stay until her departure date since the rest of the family is driving back on Sunday. Oh, and they won't be able to say farewell to me until they drop her off.
So I told him that of course I can drive her to the airport, but that the only room in my home not occupied is My Sex Dungeon and it only has a massage table when talking about laying anywhere other than the mats on the floor. That I don't think she'll want to sleep in there.
He says to me..........."Well, she might just like it".
However, my Son gave up his old bedroom to make room for her.
I also discovered a few days turned into flying out next Saturday.
She's sooo blessed that her Dad and I are like family. We've known each other since 2002.
I first met him when I was assigned as his new Officer-In-Charge of his Aviation Supply Accounting Division where he was the Senior Enlisted Marine and my new Division Chief. I also learned that he was on his way out of the Corps. We developed a professional bond that later grew into a Family Bond as we both lived beyond 45 minutes away from base (him 1hr 45min) and we often Van Pooled or Car Pooled. You get to learn a lot about a person when you're stuck in a vehicle with them for more than 10 hours per week and also on top of that working more than 50 hours per week with that same person as your 2nd-In-Charge.
I set the Policy as the Officer.
He enforced my Policy and Supervised the day-to-day business and our staff as the Senior Enlisted in that Division.
I was re-assigned to Higher Headquarters before he Retired. However, a few years after his retirement from the Corps, he called asking if I could put in a good word for him to return and work for me as a civilian in another Accounting Division that I had been assigned to and I did and he got the job!
I was married when we very first met and had just had a house built a little over 60-minutes from base and since he lived even further away (1hr, 45-minutes), but only 45-minutes from me, he actually drove over to install my electric garage. I've watched his kids grow from Pre-Teens to all three being adults now.
His family witnessed me going through 2 divorces and would invite me over their home just to eat and socialize as being a part of their family. I spent every Thanksgiving there and they would come to my home for pool parties.
His is not only a Brother by being a fellow Marine, but by choice.
However, he can no longer afford to live in California. It has gotten too expensive for him so my Brother and his family are leaving me on Sunday.
