I've written an article on the gun debate question. If you're interested please read it and share it with others.

Gun Control in the US

It is a bit long, 5 pages, but full of facts and ideas.

This is my post from the Forum about manipulating reality. Thought it would make for a decent journal read.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Obviously we exist as a part of the "source" or in my religion, God. God made us and the universe therefore we are a part of "him"...in a manner of speaking. Energy is energy, nothing supernatural or esoteric about it.

From a strictly scientific perspective, what we perceive as reality is a mix of real-world events/things and an illusion our minds create to make sense of it all. If we look even deeper at quantum mechanics, we exist in the solid state we're in solely because others see us, and they exist because we see them. Furthermore, we are here because the universe is here and it's here because we're here. Basically, the "pressure" of the universe on itself makes it a reality and nothing you can do can fundamentally alter that.

As for manipulating reality. We can to a degree and as Oceanne said, we do it by making choices, actions etc.

There has been a school of thought for thousands of years that has taken many forms. Simplistically, it suggests if we can think, wish, want something hard enough it will happen. I see zero evidence of that and if it were true all of those "sages" would be ruling the world or would have had much better success at teaching it to millions of people. Instead, a good many of those people are in jail for embezzling funds and otherwise living high off the backs of the naive and simple minded.

If the "many worlds" theory (in physics) is a correct one then every action, thought, breath you take creates a new universe with its own reality. However, you can't exactly "will" something into being within the universe you live in....each action creates a new universe, separate from this one.

The "proof" and stories people tell of wishing for a good job and then *poof* they got one is nothing but a misunderstanding and a logical fallacy. If I live life with an eye to advancement, in a good mood etc, then chances are my life will be better. Not because of any mystical powers but because of simple human behavior. Basically, if you're in a good mood, your stress level goes down, you feel better, your judgement clears, and the odds of something good happening are increased bc you're better able to recognize it and people are more prone to helping those they like (i.e are in good moods).

Likewise, if I "wish" enough for money, health, or whatever then my brain is simply focusing more on those things and so when an opportunity arises I am more likely to see it and pay attention. It doesn't mean I made the opportunity happen.

To put it another way, it is little different than this scenario: If I think women drivers are horrible then my mind hyper focuses on events relating to poor drivers who happen to be women, all-the-while ignoring the countless examples of good women drivers. A self fulfilling prophecy mixed in a clouded perspective in other words.

your starting the facts of human nature. there isn't any mystical powers out there what governs us all. Its just more pleasant to believe that there is. So some people don't really have to account themselves for their own actions which might land them in negative predicaments.

So well said.

I'm very sorry to learn about the deaths of so many today. However, I am disgusted by Obama and his self-righteous hypocrisy as well as that of most Americans.

In Pakistan alone 168 children have been killed in drone strikes since 2007. Under Obama the number of strikes and deaths world-wide has risen sharply.

I guess innocent lives don't matter as much when it's official policy. And don't kid yourself, the president has all the power when it comes to bombing countries we're not at war with.

Granted, no one gives a damn about human life or the Constitution so long as the general public cowers in fear over an "enemy" WE created, funded and armed.

So he should have been like "eh, whatever"...or what? It's his job to be a hypocrite.

I find it amusing that people who think they are morally superior to the rest of us are the first to throw around the term self-righteous.

You're assuming I think I'm morally superior. I don't. I do however think that I and the rest of the country should pay attention to the real world murder that's being done in our name.

And no I don't think he should have ignored todays events but the fake tear was a bit much. I do think he should step back and maybe stop killing people who have done nothing to us. Then maybe his cries will actually carry some moral weight.

My dad was a Vietnam veteran and he always said the worse terrorist attack on the United States would be someone blowing up a school, not a government building.

We're the terrorists of the world with "clearance" to do so. What is right about that?

Mothers love their children unconditionally no matter where they are in the world. I hate watching the news reports.

I hate to say it but I think logically about things like my daddy taught me to and I can't imagine one of those children who were shot living with those injuries. It's torn me apart because I feel almost inhuman. I cried about the lives lost and thinking of my own child. But my dad had injuries from the war and still had bits of metal in his left arm.

How much pain would those children have been in and how traumatize would they have been?

I don't want to say what I'm really thinking because people would probably hate me.

Which, Xzavier, I hope you don't. I rarely spend much time on this site unless I'm talking to someone. I respect you. I don't believe you think you're superior but you pay attention more than most people would like. I can't stand Obama. It's not for the same reason as the rest of my family... it's because I believe he's a bad leader.

children doing all around the world in vain. its a shame that we only care to notice the once who are right under our nose. Im deeply saddened for the innocent who have lost their life sense I have a little one on my own. I wish protecting children would be a world wide movement not only statewide.
