People who scream over horror games...
People who enjoy watching other people fake scream over horror games, I don't understand at all.
I prefer horror that makes me mentally, and emotionally uncomfortable. Games where I have to pause to remind myself, I'm safe, it's not real. That's the best. It's only happened in two games. Silent Hill 2, and The Evil Within, at the very beginning when you have to sneak past the big chainsaw guy. Chainsaws completely unnerved me... I think it goes back to playing Castlevania 64 as a kid. When you leave the mansion you enter one of those hedge mazes, and lurking within is a big zombie lookin' dude with a chainsaw that chases you. As a kid, I never got past this level because as soon as I saw him I'd drop my controller and run away from the TV. I've since learned better though. Get the holy water, and stun that motherfucker -_-
Then run your ass straight for the key to the door, and leave like a huge coward. Screw finding items, run awaaaay.
And chainsaw wielding zombies in Resident Evil can also fuck right off. You hear the chainsaw revving, and you just know it's somewhere... waiting. To kill you in one hit.
Actually, I have only genuinely shrieked once while playing a game. It was while playing Prey. Not a terribly frightening game in general. My 4 year old niece, and 6 year old nephew had come over to spend the night, and we were all alone. It was around 9 pm, they'd been watching me running around ruthlessly slaughtering aliens when I popped into the elevator. The main elevator is a safe zone, nothing can follow you in there. So I click a button to go up, but the elevator starts going the opposite direction, very quickly. Then suddenly the power goes out. It is completely dark. So while the kids are peeking out from behind my chain, I'm telling them, "Don't worry, the aliens can't get on the elevator, we're completely safe. Absolutely nothing can go wrong so don't look away from the screen for fear of being traumatized by aliens, and video games forever."
I mess around for a few seconds before remembering that I have a flashlight. And when I click it on, big, screeching alien face right up in my face on a giant tv.
I screamed, the kids screamed, and ran out of the room completely while I beat it in the face with my wrench, shouting for it to die.
That's the only time I can recall screaming over a horror game. I've yelled, and cursed MANY times over games. Mainly Dark Souls... Although, eventually you reach a point when you've played so many hours in Dark Souls, like 1000, when the dying has driven you over the edge of insanity, and then you just start to think it's hilarious every time the game kills you. You start talking to it like, "Good one, game, you really got me that time."
And then you plunge even further into the depths, and you start enjoying the agony of death...
Please, screw me harder, Dark Souls, you know I want it xD
Then again, I am a masochist.
I like it hard, rough, painful til I scream yet beg for more.
Dark Souls knows❤
