This is something I wrote for my mum, she wanted a poem for my grandma.
She died 27 years ago, I never got to meet her (I'm 20.) and nor did my dad, little cousin etc.
I figured i'd share it... it really is quite lovely.
For you, Mum.
With crystalline wings & a song to share,
I know mum, you're always there,
Watching from a distance,
Viewing from afar,
Keeping a watchful eye on us,
As only a mother could.
So much time has passed,
Since I saw you mum,
And I wish you could see today,
Just who I have become,
The grandchildren you never met,
All the time we could have spent,
As family, us, then, you and I,
And no matter just how hard we try,
We will always miss you.
And i've always been sure mum,
And never did I doubt,
That this sorry goodbye would come about,
But mum, i'll let you know,
That even after so much time,
Our love for you will never die,
It will always soar,
Like birds in the sky,
A beautiful sight we can always see,
To remember you're looking down on me.
You'll never be forgotten mum,
In heart and memory,
You'll live on forever,
A part of us,
You will always be -
An unforgettable memory.
I'll be honest, I wish I knew her.
I've changed I feel,
A new person today,
I woke up and said,
Nothing.
I said Nothing.
I woke up,
I got washed
And dressed...
And off to work I went,
I was early,
I worked,
it was a quiet day,
I spoke a lot yet...
I think...
I said Nothing.
I enjoyed company,
Family visited,
My cousin and I played,
We all laughed,
We smiled,
We crowded the room,
Much was said,
But many of us
I feel
All said Nothing.
Not much seems to get said,
That really means something...
We speak to one another,
About anything it seems.
And yet we really are saying
Nothing.
But...
I know I said something,
Somewhere along the line...
I'm almost positive,
Whether someone realised it or not,
For a change of pace,
I think I said something today.
I only hope they noticed.
Not many people say anything these days.
