The weather here has been very mild, the breezes carrying the sounds of small windchimes from my garden. Everything is bountiful and in bloom. The frogs make contented throaty sounds and the birds sing to one another...and to me.

I staked the tomato plants today and filled a crystal bowl of warm red romas and early girls that will be sliced and eaten with a bit of salt or toasted with melting cheese and fresh chives from the garden. The plum trees are heavy with fruit and drop them already to the earth.

I have company...Stabb has been visiting now for more than a week. We're heading to the WWII Museum on today, Holocaust Remembrance Day. We will take our time at the exhibits and then head to the French Market, the oldest market in the US. We will probably have sandwiches at Maspero's, which used to be the building where slaves were traded. After that, we'll walk around to Jackson Square and probably Bourbon Street, looking for jazz. This is the kind of weather that invites me out of doors and I'm looking forward to a bit of sun on my face. We'll likely need a hat with a brim for this very fair man who melts under the Louisiana sun.

For those who have asked, my parents are forging on. Mom has just developed an infection, but we're hoping it won't become serious. Dad is halfway through his first round of treatment post surgery...he's having the esophagitis side effect that's making swallowing difficult, but he's maintained his weight. The last few weeks, he may have to switch to liquids like Ensure. All in all, he's tolerating the radiation and chemo well, though.

Life is edging forward, never static. Tomorrow is the volunteer luncheon and Stabb is invited because he is the web master for the Center. I think he's pretty pleased about being invited. It will be at Benedict's, a lovely old plantation home converted to a restaurant.

The girls are their funny personality-plus selves, keeping me on my toes. This morning, I caught Allie running out the door in her pajamjas, uniform in hand. It occurred to me to ask her how she planned to shrug into it in the car, but then, I realized I didn't want to know :)

Meatball and Savvy remain my faithful friends, walking beside me through the house and garden, always up for an adventure, no matter how small. As much as I have ever been, I am grateful for the life given to me.
