MEMORIA

18:35 Jun 18 2009
Times Read: 1,221

I have mentioned before that I don't write poems.

And it's true; I don't. I have tried a few times and the results are always terrible.

But I had a dream last night that I wrote one, and it looked exactly like this:

MEMORIA

I am the cracked and broken earth,

the cold wind at your door.

I am the footprint that shows

not who you are,

but where you've been.

I am the shadow upon the wall,

a silent step upon the floor,

a pallid, fading echo...

I am the dirt under your nails.

Breathe life into me.

I am the footprint that knows

not where you are,

but who you've been.

What the hell does this mean?

*shrug*

It is as it says. Says So well. Concisely so.

It might mean you're eating too much cheese before bed?

Either that or you're channeling ancient spirits who want their 15 minutes?

It probably means that you should cut back on the tequilas and LSD before bedtime. In any case, it is quite nice!

i love this poem actually.

Memoria is a good title for it.

Everything example wise is about time, about history, about memory. A shadow, a silent step a fading echo sounds haunting just as a ghost to some is said to possibly be a lapse in time or a wanderer of a spirit that repeats it's memories or history.

Sounds to me as if it is a wanderer of time that may wish to be reborn again thus the dirt and breathing life into them. Has a bit of a creation reference to it as well.

At least that's my take on it. lol

That is actually an incredible poem.

Metaphorical imagery, just abstract enough to make you think twice before assuming you know what it means. Yet, with a touch of the profound...

I am the footprint that knows not where you are, but who you've been

You say you don't write good poetry, but you dream it...

I try to write good poetry and what do I dream about? Plane crashes and "That '70s Show"...

FEH, stupid brain...

strange, indeed, Birra.

I couldn't have written this if I tried. When I was in college, I tried to form a heavy metal band and our songs were so horrible and cliche-ridden, we hired English majors to re-write them.... with hilariously bad results.

Because nothing really rhymes with 'abattoir'.

An additional detail:

in my dream, each line was numbered, much like Bible verse.

And I thought it was odd that there were 13 lines.

Yeah, Thoth? This is self-affirmation that you are, indeed, a lurky little stalker. As if you didn't know...

I think the clown is a nice poet and he knows the numbers too.Maybe you should call him more ofter: before going to sleep put some nuts under your bed!

What did you say about bad poetry? You should be ashamed! You have created a special gender of literature: satanic haikai! They are both ironic and deep and I think they respect the zen tradition too!

:P

The funny thing is that the title is spelled Memoria, which is not an English word, but a Latin one!

This manner of writing is called automatic dictee in french if I remember correctly and I don`t remember anyone who used it during sleep.Poe himself used something like that, but during reveries.

Here it is:

Automatic writing:

" ...This technique is based on self hypnosis and meditation. It works because you turn down the conscious part of the mind, allowing the more powerful subconscious part to surface. This is the part of the brain where your genius lies. The creative part with all the knowledge and ideas. We all have it, but most of us rarely tap into it...."

Search more about it.It`s an interesting thing!

Also it might be one of your ancestors that ants to come back through life like in Lovecraft`s story The Case Of Charles Dexter Ward.

Just try to search both! You`ll see!
