Yep, that's how it's been in my house since Christopher was around 3. He's had the Harry costume for years and still runs around the house wearing the Gryffindor cape. It's the main thing he's gotten into and never grew out of. Harry Potter remains 'cool'. He's watched all the movies a zillion times each, then read the seven books last year.

It colors his insults as well- if he's being tickled the death and feels like he's going to fart, just prior to doing so he says, 'Gaseous Extractus!'

I have such good kids.

Even through the total frustration of tonight, they stuck by me - working with me at a customer site to get a job done tonight - we were there until 8:30.

The customer saw my car was still there and said hi. He likes kids; I've not yet met a customer that doesn't like my kids. They listen and are well behaved once they are outside of my office or their house or someplace they're comfortable and familiar with...

We actually left his office looking as though we were never there to begin with.

With the exception that there are wall plates and network jacks covering what were earlier holes in the walls and bare wires hanging out... but that's kind of what he was paying me for...

The City of Good Eats

Pictures below….

Today, Morri, my kids and I went into downtown Buffalo for the annual “Taste of Buffalo” event, which is advertised as the largest two-day food festival in the United States. The weather was perfect, the crowds were… large! And the food was awesome. For this festival, the restaurateurs generally prepare the food right on the spot – no trucking in pre-made stuff and trying to keep it tasting and feeling good – they actually cook during the festival.

Buffalo City Hall – from this angle, you would think we’ve already been annexed by Canada, but it hasn’t happened quite yet…

The McKinley Monument stands tall in Niagara Square, surrounded by fountains and the festival center. Of course, President William McKinley was assassinated in Buffalo on September 6, 1901 at the Pan-American Exposition which was being held in Buffalo.

We took a break in a grassy, shaded area of Niagara Square to sample some Cajun Broiled Crawfish.

Pai took advantage of the shade to do some tricks and make a new friend.

A restaurateur makes fresh Chocolate Covered Strawberry Kabobs. They were amazingly delicious.

The grassy, shaded area of Niagara Square sit right in the middle of the event. People actually set up tents and made a day of it here!

Over 50 restaurants and wineries lined the streets.

And with all the mid-summer construction taking place, the roads narrowed with the crowds very quickly.

It’s a great event – if you enjoy eating, you might want to pencil it in for a vacation in the coming years!

Yes, Morri was right - spraying the tree was the correct thing to do. Had to say that.

She also got her red couch she's been waiting for. It was quite a steal - we were working together installing a new network at a LAZBOY store and they had this awesome red couch marked down from $1400 to $300. We couldn't pass it up - however, that store was about 280 miles away. Can't quite fit a couch in a Jetta - but the store owner generously delivered it last night since he had to come to Buffalo anyway. It's going to look so good in the bar room - and for photoshoots.

I'm awaiting the line of storms that are supposed to be hitting us at any moment. The look pretty tame, but the cold front is supposed to get our temps back into the 70F (20C) range... which will be nice.

...ever so slowly... creeping... moving... advancing... like the glaciers of long ago....

...mmmm... glaciers. Ever wonder what life really was like during a time in history such as a great ice age? Ever consider the vast changes our planet has seen through the billions of years it has been spinning on its orbit around the tiny star we call the sun?

It boggles my mind at times...

But speaking of which, it reminds me of this story, where a farmer from the midwest was driving through New England. On his journey he noticed a farmer struggling to plow his field which was full of large rocks. He stopped the car and got out to talk to the farmer, and he asked, "Why do you have all these big rocks in your field?"

The Northern farmer replied, "Thousands of years ago this area was covered by great glaciers, which moved these rocks and left them here."

The Midwestern farmer asked, "Well, where did the glaciers go?"

The Northern farmer looked thoughtfully for a moment and then stated, "Well, I don't know. But I sure hope they didn't go back to get more rocks!"

See, that's why I get so tickled at the Canadians I am surrounded by. It gets up to the mid 80's, good breeze, low 50's at night in the summer, and these people are screaming about how HOT it is. I just laugh, and tell them until they have gone through 2 months of temps over 100 degrees, with 90% humidity, while 3-7 months pregnant, they don't know SHIT from hot....lol

But then again, I moved here to be with the man I love, and some of the SERIOUS perks is low heat, low humidity, no hurricane season...lol

...since there has been a lot of talk lately in the box about underage sex and what it means, I present to you a map of world-wide age of consent:

Yes folks - there are still places in the world where the age of consent is as low as 9 years old. Societies - individual societies - decide on what age works best for them. There is no absolute, no biological standard and nothing that determines whether or not a 14 year old or a 16 year old or even a 25 year old is emotionally mature enough to actually deal with the consequences sex can bring about. It is completely arbitrary and always a cultural standard.

Understand this when engaging in such conversations and realize that despite prevailing laws in your area, people might actually have different values or viewpoints regarding this topic.

Thank you, on behalf of the 8 billion people not living in your county, for keeping an open mind.

I think it's more of a cultural shocker to people who grew up within a society that bases people's maturity levels on a set age group rather than the individual's actual maturity setup.

For instance- a lot of places will not hire a teenager, even if the teenager in question is highly reliable and dependable, but because they are under 21 most employers see a child rather than that person's actual maturity level and rather than see them for who they are, they categorize them within the age group they just so happen to fall into.

I have had a coworker who grew up in a society where her family arranged for her to be married at 13 years old. She has 3 children and has been married to her husband for 10 years. When people ask her about it and she tells them that she is 23 and has been married for 10 years, a lot of the time they refer to her parents as people who sold their daughter into marriage for money. She has even been asked if she was sold as a sex slave because of her age. She has stated that to her it is normal to be married at that age and that 13 is actually pretty old in her society to even begin to be married, that most are married between the ages of 9 and 11, and doesn't think of it being wrong, but for most people in our society it is out of the norm for them, and that is usually what gets people's panties in a bunch- it doesn't follow a particular norm they have grown accustom to.

But I think in a way it's understandable, if you grew up being told your hair should always be short and kept natural you would grow up thinking it wasn't normal for people to grow their hair out and to dye it all the colors of the rainbow. It's the norm of a society to see differences in other cultures and to pick out what they believe to be wrong in it, should it differ from ones own beliefs and understandings, and shun those who are in "the wrong" or make a huge commotion about it.

I think it's those who step out of the norm and recognize those differences that make it a much easier place for people to be who they are rather than try to fit in and change what they believe in order to be apart of a crowd.

That's my two cents on it. ;)

I spoke to an old friend and business associate yesterday regarding some work I want her to do for my business. Our conversation quickly turned to business in general and we discussed the difficulties we’ve both had over the past almost two years.

Times were tough, but the one thing we kept telling each other, as peer support was, don’t give up. You can’t give up.

Easy advice to give – tough advice to follow. In business and in life.

I see it here with a lot of people; a relationship ends badly, feelings are hurt, depression sets in – then the inevitable “I GIVE UP!” statement. I know how that feels. There have been – still are – will be – moments in my every day where I want to shout, “I GIVE UP!” and go curl up under the futon as if that will solve anything.

Life isn’t for giving up – it is for living. No matter what is thrown in your lap you have to make the best of it.

Much, MUCH easier said than done when it feels like the world is kicking you in the ribs. I know. I know, I know, I know. But if no one says it to you, you just might stop saying it to yourself.

And if you stop saying it to yourself, you will find yourself saying, “I give up.”

So don’t give up. You can’t give up. There is no point in giving up.

Don’t give up.

Don't ever give up.
