"Ode to Halloween" OR "What do you want? It's Friday"

21:42 Oct 30 2009
Times Read: 834

Each kiddie in Vampire Rave

Made his bed or swept her grave.

It was All Hallows Eve eve

When the quiet folk grieve

O'er the noise of the morrow

And the shrieks and the sorrow,

For they knew the Vampires soon would roam

And text each other through the misty gloam.

The covens of VR

Came from near and from far

And their names alone sparked many a fear

In all the poor townsfolk who would happen to hear:

Chiron Centaurus

And the Darkened Forest.

Gladiators, Pirates, and Vampire Doves,

Silver Crystal, Secrets, and Lesbian Loves.

Coimirceoir De An Oiche

(What, you expected a rhyme?)

Oh what a night it would prove to be,

The treating and tricking of my friends and me.

(Yeah, I know that last verse should end with, “I”

But Poetic License is my bitch; I cannot lie.)

Back to my friends and their Halloween hijinx

Holy crap, never end a line with “hijinx” no matter what anyone thinks.

We crept along, looking for sport and laughing at every Paikea fart.

Morri snapped pictures of everything gorey

Vampire Witch had a pretty good bitch

At the “lame-ass tee” of our dry-humored, Mr. Thoth.

“My make-up took hours”, she started to froth,

“And all you could wear was a shirt emblazoned with 'ai' on the cloth?

Beside my face and elegant coif, you look like a silly old sloth.”

'Three-toed, I hope', said Mr. Thoth.

(I walked a long way for that geeky jest

It made me happy, though it's not my best)

“Holy Moly!” cried Joli who played lots of Scrabble

And got the joke cuz she loved to dabble

In any word play that marked her era,

Especially the malaprops of her good friend, birra

Like “my bleeding rectum” and other fine names

(I know I choked, but my rectum rhymes went up in flames)

The ratings would wait til another date

Fun was had and Birra's rum wasn't bad.

The cute little rat tipped her sequined hat

And grinned at the wry Thoth Lethtat

(I alwayth lithp hith name like that.)

Pai ran by.

“Frolic with us, goddamn it”, cried Mori.

We did, and we shared in all the night's glory.

Then Joli made light, and it was only right...

“Thoth's frolic looks alcoholic, like a bucolic whose grown melancholic.

Perhaps it's symbolic of the poor workaholic,

But damn, Halloween kicks ass.

(Yeah, yeah...bite me, rhyme nazi.)

Well..."names" is WAY easier to rhyme with "flames" than "rectum" is to rhyme with anything! :P

I believe I have coined a phrase. Have you ever been sitting around with your friends or family and someone says something off the wall and somebody else maybe yells, "Bullshit!" Then the first guy says, "No, it's true...I swear. Go look it up.

Guy 2: I'm comfortable...you go look it up.

Guy 1: See, you know I'm right. If not, you'd go look it up.

...and so on until the weaker person gives in and goes, fuming, to the computer to look it up.

In my house, we refer to this as "Google Goading."

We even have arguments that now include, "Don't you Google Goad me!!!

LOL ... I use to say to my kid ''go check the dictionary,''

I see we change with the times, "Google Goading." Who knows it just may catch on.

Poignant. "Poignant." I just wrote that word to a friend and even though I've used that word many times over the years, suddenly it looks alien to me. Look at it. Just...wrong.

It's as though someone took a perfectly lovely friend and replaced her with a pod double.

"Poignant." Hmm.

Does this kind of phenomenon happen to you?

Yup, just the other day as a matter of fact.

It happened to me while trying to spell epiphany.

I tried to sound it out, spell checked it, and even asked someone else. I still wasn't convinced but I chalked it up to a brain fart. It's funny how you can have those moments.

What can ya do?

It is the natural misgivings of your mind, quaking in trepidation at the certain knowledge of the scrabble stomping you are about to receive.

Don't tempt me to make the score public. It might shame your coven brothers and sisters.

It happens all the time to me. I think it is the fact that I spend my time thinking in images and colours, and I only grant a passing nod to the shapes of the lines on paper that represent them. If I look too closely, I start to realise that those lines are meaningless and then I get confused. I recommend looking at something else until the feeling passes:)
