Many rounds of Nightreign today. Not a single win. I feel like I got grouped with a lot of newer players cause... most of these rounds had absolutely zero coordination, and when I tried, I was ignored. And that's fine, you can totally go off on your own, and do your own thing. It just doesn't make sense why you'd play with other people if that's what you wanna do. When your go solo, the game is scaled for one person. When you load in multi-player, it scales in difficultly for three people so it greatly benefits you to stick together, work together. I don't blame newer players for not knowing. My first online game I immediately ran away from everyone and died. That's a pretty common occurrence when you separate. And you can almost always tell when a player is new because they NEVER use their special abilities. Which I get, they're not very clear on what they do, and the buttons for activating them are annoying, and because it's not in the base game you tend to forget they exist. The new mechanics take some getting used to so I don't take it personally when people aren't immediately great, and you end up losing. It's ok to lose. I had a heartbreaking loss today. Almost had the second boss beat, it was only a couple hits away, and we lost it. It happens. Also got trolled for the first time. Loaded in, and one of my teammates immediately booked it for an Evergaol, opened it, and left the game. Evergaols have some of the toughest enemies so going at one at level one is pretty much suicide. Or in this case, someone trolling. I'm not really sure what the point is though. Ok, you opened it, but... doesn't mean we have to fight it. There are other harder things to fight wandering out in the world, it's not like you released something that's going to chase us across the world. It's just gonna sit there. It's just meaningless. Are you that bored with the game, and you have nothing better in your life to do than hop from team to team, giggling as you immediately open these things, then run away? I seriously don't get it xD The only thing I can guess is maybe he was RPing Patches. The only reason this crossed my mind is because he was wearing Siegmeyer's/Siegward's armor, and in Dark Souls 3 Patches steals this armor, and attempts to trick the player while wearing it because Patches is a notorious trickster in most Souls games. If that's what you do with your time... Well ok then. Kinda pathetic. But I've made it pretty far as a duo in several attempts. I'm getting the hang of using more caster abilities as Duchess, especially when there's not already a dedicated mage in out party. The problem is usually finding a staff, they're not as common as other weapons so I make sure I always have a bow just in case I need the range which comes in handy as I often times find myself luring enemies away from my teammates so they can heal or ressurect each other. Or if there are multiple bosses in a fight, trying to keep at least one busy. Like in the fight with the Tree Sentinel, and his two cavalry. The cavalry guys are easier to kill, but if you've got big boy Tree Sentinel also persistently
on your ass, it's a lot harder. So I usually take his attention, and keep him busy, chip his health down a bit, while my teammates kill the two easier guys. Then we all take on the big guy. It works really well. Or if I notice that my teammates are low on health, and not healing, they're probably out of flasks so I'll drop a healing stone down, and try to keep the boss away from them while they stand on it and heal. These are things that Duchess does well. She's not tanky, and she doesn't do collosal damage, she has other skills. Like her super, becoming invisible, extremely useful when both your teammates are down, and it's up to you to get them back up. To get people back up in Nightreign you have to attack them. I know, it doesn't make sense, and the more damage you do, the faster you can get someone up. Duchess doesn't do great damage so being able to become invisible, and use those precious seconds not being attacked to slowly bring your people back to life, it helps a lot. I've noticed that people are garbage at dodging. One of the most common characters I see played is Ironeye, and his special ability is a dodge move that completely takes him out of danger, and I almost never see it used by the people playing him. Again, new players, I get it, they're learning. But if you're on the second boss using Ironeye, and still not using his special.... go practice alone. You're weighing us down having to constantly resurrect you. It's ALWAYS Ironeye, and he's easily the easiest character to play, just stand back, shoot bow. Go to the poison area, and get a poison bow. Easy win. If you want help getting it, ping it on the map, I will show up. That's one thing that annoys me, when no one in the team wants to take charge. The runs that go really well always have someone deciding where we go. Sure, I know what's where at this point, but I prefer someone else choosing our course. You look for churches before you land, you figure out the closest one, and work your way towards it through any large cathedrals or encampments along the way. Then you do the Castle day 2. That's pretty much how most efficient people do things. All day today people just wanted to scatter, and we lost every time.

So... I decided to try out the multi-player in Nightreign. Because I wanted to see if it's really much different than going solo. And... it's interesting. The main difference is that bosses have more HP, and that makes sense if you've got more people taking them on. In Nightreign you're grouped into a trio, but I guess our third wasn't impressed with me, and the other guy on our team cause they fucking ditched us about five minutes in. Excuse me for not being OP or knowing the fucking etiquette. Like, are you supposed to stay together or do your own thing? Who decides where to go? If you're the kinda person who is 100% serious, and needs to win at all costs, needs everyone to be the fucking best... Please leave my team cause I wanna have fun, not stress over your ass. The other guy stayed with me though, and we did get to night three where we were pummeled xD But hey, I'm learning. Overall I don't feel like I'm much better off on a team as far as my character, somehow I ended up leveled up even less than I normally am. It's nice having another person there to take the aggro, and it's fun playing with someone else. But it also makes me feel more panicked xD Like... playing with other people means people relying on you, and worse, you having to rely on other people. I don't do well relying on anyone, I have the general attitude of if I can't do it myself then I shouldn't. So maybe Nightreign will help me grow. As long as I'm not the worst person on the team, I'm good xD Like I know I'm not the worst Souls player, but some people are SO much better. Those people also play like 24/7 though. And I have a life~
I would say the guy I played with tonight was pretty on par with my own skill level. He was playing Ironeye which is an easier character because you've got distance, and a really good dodge ability, and a really good super. Executor's super is the whole wolf/bear thing which is pretty good against most things, but his special ability... I don't really understand it. It doesn't necessarily look like it really does anything... So I feel like I'm doing it wrong xD Apparently using his special makes him tanky. I'll have to play around with that. One of the main things about playing with other people is that I'm constantly worried about whether I'm doing enough, helping enough, being aggressive enough, and that then leads me into being more aggressive to get more damage. I also have the major urge to protect my teammates so when the aggro is on them I tend to throw myself at the boss to get it off them. So having a tank mode could be useful... Executor also scales S in arcane so I need to be on the lookout for status ailment weaponry. It's so much to think about in such a small amount of time xD
So would I say that Nightreign is easier multi-player? Not really, for me personally, no. Because it adds all this mental shit that when I'm by myself I don't have to think about. By myself I only have to worry about me, my own shit, what I'm doing, and keeping myself alive. But like I said, it's fun playing with other people so I'll probably do more of it once I fully figure my character out. I haven't even tried all the characters yet. I'm not into strength or magic so... I don't feel particularly compelled to try the others. There is another female character I know you unlock after you beat the first night lord, and I know she's a Dex focused character, and she's petite and blonde so... if I can get her, she may be the one~
