...on top of that, the conservative right postulates that making birth control more affordable, more available and promoting it educationally simply encourages younger people to have sex.

Wha?

I don't think younger people need any more encouragement than their own biology is already giving them. What they need is knowledge and things that can help them stay safe as they explore life made available. As we grow into adults, sex becomes a part of life. It's all new, and there is only an instinct to do it, not an instinct on doing it safely. We're only about 6 generations from the legal age of marriage being 14 years old in most western cultures - now we act like 14 year olds experimenting with their bodies is some abomination. Like Morri just said; we are social creatures and designed to have sex. In the past when birth control wasn't available, people were not discouraged from sex because of it. They obviously had sex anyway. We're all here. Someone has been fucking.

The conservatives constantly put the cart before the horse in their arguments over how we should use our bodies and how we should use science in our lives. What is right and moral by their standards is a philosophy that went by the wayside somewhere around the end of the Salem Witch Trials. Puritanism works for a very small minority of people. The rest of us want to enjoy life and don't necessarily subscribe to their dogma.

Stop trying to legislate religious values for fuck sake. Last time I checked, there were about 1,000 religions worshiped in this country, and plenty of us decline to subscribe to any of them. We don't need a committee to tell us how to think and act based on the collection of fictional tales that they read.

Just make my options available. I'll choose the ones that are right for me without your help, thanks.

Thank you country bumpkin school districts for not teaching sex ed until 10th grade. I'm pretty sure it should be taught back in the 4th grade, and continually as these kids go through the changes.

Funny how in the debates over birth control conservatives say that our moral fiber is eroding and Americans are becoming obsessed with sex.

I've never known humans anywhere at any period of history to NOT be obsessed with sex. Either craving it or repressing it - it's two sides to the same coin of obsession...

Just saying.

We are built for sex. Our social structure depends on sex. It is the way it is. Anyone who denies it is just fooling themselves and thinking that the standard of being "good" is to deny themselves and others.

ThePinja

04:26 Feb 20 2012

Oddly enough we are in a reproductive sinkhole of idiocy more so than any other era of mankind. People used to procreate in order to increase survival odds. Now people reproduce and don't even think twice about how they are going to maintain for themselves and the child. Let someone else worry about the finances. Several generations of allowing hard working middle class families foot the bill for lazy birth factories has taught people younger and younger that responsibility isn't really required when potentially bringing life into the world. If one cannot support themselves, what right do they have to think they should bring a life into the world? In the past, if there was no support, i.e. the man died, there were no in laws, chances are the family starved and that legacy is erased for good.

Canislupus

04:52 Feb 20 2012

Pinjas right. So many people don't even think about the consequences of their actions and our education policies don't help that at all. Not only that, our society seems to encourage kids to just hand the responsibility off to other people without ever bothering to teach them about the simple concept of sex and NOT reproducing when you don't mean to.

...luckily, we have two brilliant photographers here on VR who know that people of all shapes and sizes make awesome models. The models in that magazine just don't look real, bet they are much more beautiful in the flesh. It's no wonder that people have all sorts of hang-ups about their bodies when they are bombarded with unreal images in the media.

That is part of my point too, Sulks.

These women are athletes at the top of their sports. People don't gravitate to them because they're flawless, but because they succeed with drive and determination, overcoming their flaws.

Maybe normal people really would rather see who they are, not who a graphics editor wants them to be....

The tangled webs we weave...

14:42 Feb 12 2012
Times Read: 1,340

...there was once a spider that loved making webs. She set out to make the the biggest and most beautiful web ever seen. She worked hard on it, creating intricate knots and patterns, stretching it all over the forest.

Other spiders at first were impressed by her work. They watched as she spun threads from tree to tree. They marveled at her weaving. Some were even envious.

But soon the other spiders realized that this web was starting to crowd into their own homes. Other spiders were beginning to get tangled into her web while simply trying to spin their own, modest and honest homes. They asked her to stop, but she would not. She had a goal and she told the other spiders anything she could think of just to get them to leave her alone while she spun her web.

She continued building what was now becoming a monstrosity. Most of the other spiders, content with their own webs began caching flies and mosquitoes, raising their families and going about their lives, trying to ignore her. The other spiders ignoring her irked the spider, so she started spinning her web closer and closer to them to try and get their attention.

Later in the spring, as the forest awakened, the spider woke up one morning to discover her web had not just captured small flies and mosquitoes, but huge locusts, dangerous bees and wasps, June bugs and dragon flies.

"I do not want these huge dangerous bugs!" the spider shouted, "They are destroying my web!"

The other spiders sat back and laughed, as more and more undesirable bugs continued getting caught in the web, destroying it.

Once the web was completely destroyed, the spider realized that she spent so long spinning her web, she never gathered the food that her web collected for her. Now it was destroyed and she had nothing to survive on.

She turned to the other spiders for help, but they turned away, leaving her on her own.

The moral of this story is: If you spin a big web, be prepared for everything it catches. And if you piss off everyone in the process, don't be surprised when you have no friends.

Yes, I'm starting to write my own fables now... deal with it.

Adventures of a modeling/photography website

00:30 Feb 07 2012
Times Read: 1,423

So a photographer has this image titled "Self Punishment" in his portfolio. It is an image of a model in a dominatrix type outfit, and photoshopped in is an image of the same model, mainly naked, collared, cuffed... what have you.

Someone commented on the photo:

Wonderfully composed image, great interaction between the models.

Uhhh... ma'am, I think you missed the point...

I contacted the pervy guy that keeps messaging Morri to do naked photos of him and his "female model friend." I figured I would play it out and see where it lead. It lead to the point of me telling him there will be a deposit required to reserve the studio space which is non-refundable if one or both of them doesn't show. At that he balked and explained that in all actuality, he doesn't know his female model friend that well and can't guarantee she will show up...

...so, I guess we know where that one was headed from the git-go.

Reviewing other messages I had from back in the fall that I didn't pay much attention to - there was one from a model urging me to check out a different website, but the link was a shorty, so I wasn't about to click it. Her account is gone now, so I have to assume she was a spammer from the start, which was my hunch back then too... how she got an account on this site when it took them about a year to approve mine... FEH.

The previous message was from a model claiming she was stuck in Buffalo and had a really nice hotel room down town we could shoot in, and it wouldn't cost much as long as I was willing to pay for the room.

Sounded more like prostitution to me. Judging by her portfolio, I won't doubt it.

Pass....

It takes all kinds, right?

Yeah, but you know what Images... if they're going to ticket people for driving because they have a hand occupied with a phone... they should also ticket people for driving with a hand occupied by a cigarette, or a Big Mac... what have you.

A distraction, is a distraction, is a distraction.

The #1 distraction leading to more accidents than anything else is... having kids in your car. Let's outlaw traveling with kids, too.

Canislupus
Canislupus
12:41 Feb 03 2012

We should just outlaw driving :) Force public transportation, food lines and create the proletariat...damn, someone already did that :(

I agree though. Cool tech and laws do not always mesh well. Kinda like common sense and society as a whole.

Watched a guy the other day drive over a curb and almost take out a hydrant while texting. Damn good thing it was not near a school bus stop populated by kids.

birra

14:19 Feb 03 2012

I am totally against laws that protect us from ourselves... motorcycle helmet laws... seatbelt laws. Why? If you don't have the brains enough to protect yourself from the obvious and demonstrated hazards, then fuck off.

I'm all for the expectations of personal responsibility and common sense. No, you should not get a settlement in court if you burned yourself on your morning coffee. It's coffee. You know it's hot. Move along.

I'm all for enforcing common sense on the roads. Don't drink and drive. If you do and you're obviously impaired, you know what is coming.

But for me, texting, phone calls, a cigarette, eating a meal... it's all the same to me - distractions from the task of driving. Why does technology need special laws applied when people have been doing stupid shit on the road distracted by these other tasks for a century?
