This weekend I did my first readings. I am using the Rider deck. This is the spread I used recommened to me by Mooniepie:

Before I began I spent a week with my cards, shuffling them, holding them, sleeping with them, and keeping them in my Cree Healer Pouch; where they stay when I am not using them.

Advice I have taken and have applied:

1. Tarot is all about exploring your uncosinscience self.
2. They are a tool in which you can project hidden perceptions.
3. As intuition is an important aspect of reading, you’ll need to bring yourself into the cards.
4. Scan your cards and absorb what your reactions to the images are. Start to consider things like emotions, feelings, objects and symbols, and color - if there are any. What is your immediate reaction to these things?
5. Consider how the meaning of the card interacts with the aspect of the question you’re answering. See if you can tell a story with the cards that are in front of you.
6. Always treat your cards with respect.
7. NEVER do a reading if you are upset.

For my first readings I applied the following questions to my spreads: Who am I? What do I need? How will I get it?

Also, I am tracking my progress by using the Golden Thread Tarot app which helps you do all of that through an app. Also, I have a notebook just for my readings and learning process. I was advised to start out by learning 2-3 keywords for each card. Then, write a bit about it.

I am not going to share what I learned about myself in these first readings. It's personal. Though I will share that already I am learning new things about myself. I am sure in a few days I will journal about a personal reading. Please feel free to add anything I have missed. Advise and comments welcome! I want to thank Images, Moonie, Kami, Liliancat, Mogy who have advised me in my tarot journey and always repsonding to my messages and all my questions.

It sounds like you're doing a great job. You also don't always need to use a spread. You can also just ask a question and pull a card. If cards fall out when you're shuffling, they've fallen out for a reason. Do not add them back to the deck. Set them off to the side and see how they influence your reading.

My Tarot cards arrive on Tuesday! I have been told when you get a deck you need to form a connection with them . I think I will put mine under my pillow for a night before I open them. When you get a deck what do you do to form that connection?

I meditate and pull a card to represent my relationship with the deck. And then do a reading.
After a few readings you'll realize it has a sort of personality. And you can connect with it more based off of that.

I've had my first deck since I was 12, and it's always been my favorite. It's hard to explain how or why you form a connection. Sometimes it's instant, sometimes it takes time, trust. It's like you reach an understanding with your cards, a relationship, a friendship maybe? I know that sounds silly to say about something made out of paper or plastic. But everything is energy. If it's the right deck then it will know you better than you know yourself. More often than revealing any dark secrets, your cards bring to light things you already know. Things to remember or maybe things to come to terms with. They can guide, but also warn.
But they're also just fun to learn if you don't intend to take it too seriously :3

What I have learned so far...

I also want to thank again those on this site who are educating me the right way and taking the time to do so, Images, Kami, Liliancat ( Just found out my girl is into tarot too! This does not surpises me, just another thing we have in common)

Tarot cards, sometimes called "the book of divination of the gypsies," are a tool for self dicovery and in NO way , shape, or form a means to contact the dead, piss off spirts or evil. This is just a misconception. Tarot users are not worshiping Satan and are not conjuring up evil spirits. Period.

Yes they are a tool used for divination. Now, lets look up the difination of 'divination.' Divination (from Latin divinare "to foresee, to be inspired by a god", related to divinus, divine) is the attempt to gain insight into a question or situation by way of standardized process or ritual.

Divination: unusual insight : intuitive perception.

Divination, the practice of determining the hidden significance or cause of events, sometimes foretelling the future, by various natural, psychological, and other techniques. Found in all civilizations, both ancient and modern, it is encountered most frequently in contemporary mass society in the form of horoscopes, astrology, crystal gazing, tarot cards.

Again, I will respost this: Tarot users are not worshiping Satan and are not conjuring up evil spirits.

Tarot cards help you listen to your inner voice. A tarot card reading can really help us to understand who we truly are. This is what draws me to them. To dive deeper into who I am. I am still reading the books Images suggested and I have the app that she and Kami suggested.

I am starting to feel ready to venture to get my first deck of cards and that deck will be The Rider Tarot Deck. Where I would love to dive into a deck like the The Night Sun Tarot by Fabio Listrani and The Vintage Oracle Tarot Cards. There are so many beautiful cards. But I am just starting out and I am only crawling now and will be awhile before I can walk.

So here goes. Order off Amazon, the Rider Deck. I am so excited.

Beside the books I will be using also using this app and site which also is a walk though on YT!

Also, its suggested you get a note book to write in when you start to read the cards

Why keep a Tarot Journal?

Tarot cards are like watching a movie. Each card tells a story. Well, let me do it this way:

Buy a spiral bound notebook and some colored felt pen ( I order a few note books and colored felt tip pens from Amazon with my cards)

Write an open-ended question at the top of every other page

Possible questions:
What talents am I not using?
How can I manifest my dreams quickly?
What do my spirit guides want me to know?
What is my greatest strength?)

Choose one Tarot card for each question and then journal about it! Notice what symbols or figures jump out at you. What does this card seem to be telling you?

Don’t attempt more than a couple pages per day. Even one page a week is enough to make this a meaningful practice.

Having a topic or theme to write about gives your journal entries direction. It also invites you to get more personal and in-depth than you normally would.

Spending time writing about the Tarot cards in a way that is personal really forces you to contemplate the Tarot card meanings on a deep level. The more you gaze at your Tarot cards, the more you open up to greater insights and fresh perspectives.

The writing process helps unlock your intuition, allowing insights to come flooding in. Journaling really personalizes your experience with your Tarot cards – they become a part of you, not just a tool you sometimes use.

Now to wait 3 days for my cards and notebook to arrive!

I welcome feedback and tips but please I ask, no role-players need reply.

"The most powerful sources of information come from within; the Tarot aids in coming in contact with one's Higher Self."

I always thought tarot cards were a tool to predict the future. I always visioned a gypsy at a fair in a tent. She would have a table with a table cloth of the moon and stars and for a few bucks, she tell you if you would find love soon.

How wrong I was. I have always been interested in tarot and almost brought a deck a few years ago. The art work on them are beautiful. Past few days Images Morrigana, Moonie, Kami, few others have made journals about tarot. My interest woke up and I asked some questions. Images recommended a few books which I downloaded to my kindle. I started reading last night and wow. I was wrong. Tarot's are about self-discovery; getting to know one's self.

After I started reading the first book it became clear that I need to order the non-pixle book. So, I did that today. The author suggest to take notes, write in the book and also to get a note book to write what you see in the cards.

Also, just walking into a store picking up a pack of the cards and paying for them, nope. You have to jive with them. Feel when you pick them up that 'Yes!' this is the deck for me.

So this new section in my journal will be my journey discoering Tarot and... myself. I welcome people to post your experinces, what deck's you like, any help at all because yeah, this is a new world to me.

I learned last night too the oldest deck is at Yale Universary and is dated back to 1400's. I plan to read the books before I venture to the store to hunt for the deck that speak's to me. I am excited and nervoues at the same time. What will I discovery about myself on this journal?

Just make sure you take appropriate precautions before using such tools for communication or "divinations".
You can be deceived by entities who can and will make readings appear jumbled or even guided falsely.
But I am not saying you don't already know this, but it's sound advice for those thinking about using tools.
