Many people who practice witchcraft like to use elemental magic spells, as it is a very natural form of magic. It's also much easier to learn (and remember) the basic qualities and attributes of 4 elements rather than learn hundreds of other correspondences for herbs, stones or oils. Though it may be simpler than some other spells, elemental magic spells can still be powerful.

Air
First off, we have the element of air. The qualities that air represents include ideas, inspiration, creativity, intelligence, travel, freedom, new beginnings and mental clarity. If you want a spell for any of these ideas, you should incorporate air into your magick. Items like feathers, bells, incense and quartz all have air attributes.

Earth
Next is earth. This is an element that stands for grounding, all forms of nature, money and prosperity, growth, rules and responsibility. If you want to represent earth on your altar, you can use a pentacle, stones, or a bowl of earth or rock salt. For earth spells, crystals and herbs are often used since they are natural items directly from the earth.

Fire
Next up for elemental magic spells is fire. Candle spells are the most popular kind of witchcraft spell and are a good example of using fire. Fire should be used for spells involving passion, energy, strength, creativity and anger. Items for fire include candles (obviously) as well as volcanic glass, and the athame (though some traditions have the athame associated with air). Fire spells usually involve candles, but not always.

Water
And lastly we come to water. Water energies are often used in spells for love, fertility, friendship, healing and sleep. But spells don't often call for actual water. Crystals like aquamarine and moonstone make great "water" additions, as do herbs like lilac. A chalice is the usual altar tool to represent the element of water. If you do use water in your water spells, try to use naturally collected rainwater. For a different sort of magick, use your water in ice spells instead.

4 black candles
A small fabric bag in either purple or black
About a tablespoons worth of:
Agrimony
Anise
Horehound
Sandalwood
Rue
One piece each of:
Onyx
Jet
Hematite

Before you use it, you need to assemble and charge up this protection charm. Set the four candles up in holders in the shape of a square. In the middle, pile all the parts of your charm bag. Light the candles and concentrate on their light. Visualize it flowing into the center and filling up the herbs and stones you have there. Repeat the following:

By the light of four,
Harm me no more.

Repeat several times while you charge up the materials. When your satisfied, gather everything together and fill the bag with stones and herbs. Tie it tightly shut and place back in the center of the candles. Do the same visualization and repeat the same words again. When you feel that the bag is ready to go, snuff out the candles and start to carry the charm with you.

Remember that this Wiccan protection spell is intended to block psychic or astral energy, but it will do as a more general protection amulet in a pinch.

1 tsp dried Anise seed (any kind of Anise)
1 1⁄2 tsp dried whole Cloves
petals of 1 small dried red Rose
2 tsp dried Rosemary
6 dried Bay leaves
9 inch by 9 inch square white cotton cloth
6 inch purple cord or yarn

Mix all ingredients well, then place into the center of white cloth in a pile. Bring each corner up to the centre one at a time, in a clockwise motion. when all corners are up and touching, there will be four folds sticking out. In a clockwise motion, bring the corners of these folds to the centre as well. Take the purple cord or yarn and wrap it around the cloth 3 times, just above the high spot of the herbs. Tie three knots, and let the ends hang.

Empowering the sachet
Sit in a quiet place, preferably outdoors, and hold the sachet cupped in your hands. Close your eyes and imagine white energy travelling through your arms and into the sachet. Feel safety, feel protected. See yourself standing surrounded by a white light. See it coming from the sachet. Empower the sachet once a week, and make a new sachet once a month. Continue using the sachet until you feel that you no longer need it.

Though it is extremely rare, and difficult to do... it's always possible that someone sends negative energy your way through spellwork. If you feel like this may be the case, there's no harm in doing this spell. It can only help.

What you'll need:

* Rue, rosemary, and rowan (all botanicals)

STEP 1: Dissolve your saltpeter in a glass bowl filled with purified water.

STEP 2: Carry the water around into each room as you visualize a white bubble being formed on the outside of your home as you walk into each room.
