They continued to talk. The man left Florida, as he said he would. As usual the conversations were up and down. After all, neither of them really knew when to shut up. In distance they were not that far apart. He continued to do what he had always done.
Many years later the old man died. He died as he lived. With his last breath he said her name. The old man's companion had his written instructions. She would carry them out. He was to be immediately cremated and his ashes spread with the winds. No services. Nothing, other than a simple plaque to be placed on a wall at the local cemetery with others like it. Inscribed on the plaque was his name, date of birth and death. In addition the word "Servo" was placed in the middle below the other inscription.
One crisp Autumn day, his companion went to the cemetery to view the plaque. She shivered slightly in the Fall chill. Though in the South she was cold. She planned on returning to Florida quite soon. She was going to close up the house where they had resided for many years.
As she approached the wall, she noticed a folded note taped carefully to the plaque. At the base of the wall was a single Orchid, that had been cut from a plant. She unfolded the note and read, the handwritten words,"See you next time around. Enjoy the Orchid". She glanced around but didn't see anyone.
She thought, "even in death it continues."
