The Triquetra -- Latin tri- "three" and quetrus "cornered"

Triquetra originally meant "triangle" and was used to refer to various three-cornered shapes. It has come to refer exclusively to a particular more complicated shape formed of three vesicae piscis (the leaf-like shape in between two equal diameter circles when both centers are on the circumference of the other circle), sometimes with an added circle in or around the three lobes. Also known as a "trinity knot" when parallel doubled-lines are in the graph, the design is used as a religious symbol adapted from ancient Celtic images by Christianity. It is similar to Odin's symbol, the valknut. A very common representation of the symbol is with a circle that goes through the three interconnected loops of the triquetra. The circle emphasises the unity of the whole combination of three forces.

I’m a California girl, born and raised.
I have only lived for a very short time
anywhere else. The farthest I have been
out of the country is Baja California. I have
been around the states somewhat but
mostly in the Midwest. So my knowledge
of other places outside of the Pacific coast
is somewhat limited. I love to travel but just
haven’t had much opportunity to do so. As you
can probably tell, this isn’t my first time here.
Feel free to add me as a friend, add my
journal to favorites and stalk me. Send me a
message and I'll do the same. :)

What is interesting is many in the vampire
community are fond of red and/or black roses.
Therefore, it isn't unusual that I might like them.
Since there is a predominance of roses on my
profile I am putting an excerpt here from an
article I wrote a few years ago:

"As the nineteenth century arrived
something called “The Language of Flowers”
came into vogue. Each flower had its own meaning
as well as the colors. These designations for the
rose actually go back to the beginning in Persia
and the Ottoman Empire. The women of the time
were forbidden to learn to write. Therefore
the use of the rose was their way of sending a
message. The art of communicating with
flowers is called floriography. It was used
in Turkey in the 18th century and by the
19th century had migrated to Europe. Couples
used the secret language of the rose to send
messages. Even the arrangement and cut
of the stems had meaning. The red rose
means true love, passion and lust. They are
also said to be a sign of courage and are
often sent with a congratulatory message."

My grandfather Americanized his name
from the original Dutch name we believe was
Van der Sluys. In those times, unfortunately,
when names were put on documents many would
spell them as they sounded. It was changed
when my great many times back grandfather
and his son naturalized in the US in the 1700s.
As far as we know, he is the first to have this
name at least in the US. There are some vague
references to people of that name in Holland prior.
Holland is not the name of the country but a province
north and south containing most major cities.
Although he may have lived in another part
of the Netherlands; Frisia or Freisland. This was my
Mother's family line. I no longer have crests
posted and possibly they are both correct, but we
don't know. I never met my great great grandfather
on my paternal side, (his Mother's Father) but he did
come to the US from Ireland. When? I don't know.

I am told by some I am
easy going and others think of me differently, lol.
I will stand up for myself and won’t back down
and I can be as disagreeable as anyone else.
BUT I really don’t make it a practice to get
involved in drama or condemn anyone for losing
their temper. Everyone does now and then. I try
to be open minded about people’s views and
stay out of trouble.

Writing and researching are
what I call fun. I am long past finding parties and
nightclubs of interest. I am friendly and talkative
but yet I am shy. Sometimes I find I get my foot
stuck in my mouth but most people are gracious
about my outbursts. It doesn't happen often and
it is usually because I wasn't listening close enough
to what was being said. A blond moment.

Speaking of writing, I've been doing a lot of that for
a number of years, mostly non fiction but a short
story and poetry here and there. I'm finally starting
to finish the novels I've been writing and had four
of them originally. Now there are seven total.
All of them would be considered rough drafts
but I put four of them in total on my website
hopefully to deter "where are they published."
I just finished some of them having written on them
for years and putting excerpts here or there. They
aren't horror stories or exactly hardcore science
fiction. They're romance novels set in different
time frames sometimes referred to as paranormal
romances but mostly they're fantasy stories and
the romance deals with the nature of the
characters and how I chose to portray them. They
are more suited I think to the tastes of women
but one never knows. Each is part of a series.

I love music, especially
symphonic metal. One of my majors in college
was music so the combination of metal with
the symphonic sound I find appealing. I found
a new music player and put it at the bottom of my
profile with a song from the ending credits of
Snow White and the Huntsman, which I recently changed
because it was removed from the site. Now there is nothing
due to malfunctions on the site. So I give up.

Below I have placed two videos of my favorite
American band of the genre I mentioned. Most
of the bands are generally from Scandinavia or
the Netherlands but it varies. They are known
to be fronted mostly by females mainly with soprano
voices but this one is fronted by a male originally
from Scandinavia. It seems they have a new
singer in the other video since Roy Kahn,
retired from the music business to do other things.
The band remains just as awesome as ever.

What are my likes?
Sometimes I'm not even sure of that. I am
always watching movies of all types.
My preference is scifi, fantasy and horror.
Picking a favorite movie is difficult but I would
have to say, Stargate. I have always liked
Egyptian, Celtic, Mesopotamian and Norse
mythology, in fact, mythology in general.
It probably wouldn't surprise anyone that
I have an obsession of sorts concerning the
Tuatha Dé Danann in Irish folklore. My favorite
authors are Clive Barker, George R.R. Martin and
Richard Matheson, but my favorite book
is non-fiction. The Zelator by Mark Hedsel
would be the book. It is a spiritual autobiography
relating one man's travels through much of
Western and some Eastern esoteric teaching.
I don't read much fiction, not because I don't
like it, but I am always researching for an
article usually, so that takes up most of my
reading time.

I love Mexican, Italian and Chinese food.
I especially love chocolate dipped strawberries.
My favorite color is red and has been my whole
adult life. I love to write and that says it all
in a word. I prefer the beach at night and love
the sound of the ocean's waves breaking.
I could sit by a fire on the beach and listen
for hours. Unfortunately there are curfews.

What do I dislike? For one,
rude and arrogant people. People who drive
like they own the road. Talking on the cell
phone inside a public shopping place so
everyone can hear. People who "borrow"
things without asking and very often never
return the item/s. Constantly complaining
about Twilight. Anything else that would be a
criminal action such as rape or child abuse, etc.
I don't like okra, lol. Aside from that I will eat
most things except exotic foods like deep fried
tarantulas. I hate when someone comes into
my room while I am sleeping and turns on the
light. So essentially I am like everyone else,
I don't like sensory annoyances.

The vampire community
is something I know some about but I won’t
pretend I know all the ins and outs and why?
Well, we all have differing opinions about things
although some of us agree on the basics.
Regionally there are differences as well. It can
get pretty heated at times but everyone has
the best of intentions or so they say. I sort of
reject labels such as sanguinary and psi vampires,
etc. Vampires are just vampires to me. I am not
interested really in how one feeds. But the
arguments go on down to whether donors should
be allowed in the various organizations.

Much of what is written in so called historical books
I take with a grain of salt because when things
finally get written down they have floated around
so long who knows how accurate they are or
biased. There is something written in the 11th C.
referring to someone as a vampire. Supposed to
be the oldest reference but when I did the research,
it appeared they meant it figuratively concerning
the type of man this person was and what he did
to others and not that he actually was a vampire as
we think of them now in folklore. Still, I love the
legends of the vampire.

I also like watching movies about vampires and
sometimes reading books about them. I don’t
expect fiction to match legend, but it should be
entertaining and somewhat original. I don't have a
favorite vampire movie but I do prefer the Frank
Langella version of Dracula to all I have seen even
though it strays from the book like Coppola's version.

I am not into the fetish
side of the community nor a Goth. I am far too
old for the latter and I just could never trust
anyone enough for the rest. Total pleasure is my
ideal and I don’t find pain pleasurable at all.
Therefore, I don’t have any tattoos. If I were to
get one it would probably be “call 911” due to my
age. I am not exactly old fashioned either. I kind
of walk the lines between.

The graphics I have chosen
you may or may not have seen before. There
are too many people here for me to know the
answer to that. I put graphics on my profiles
and videos sometimes, because I like to break
up the monotony of all the writing. I like the
colorfulness and the art factor. If you are
someone who does not like graphics ect.
on profiles, I apologize but I don't hold that
opinion. They are here for your enjoyment!

I am a collector of many things,
so many it is taking too many boxes to move
them around from place to place. I love angels,
carrousel ponies, rocking horses, fairies,
dragons and you name it, I may collect it. I have
a major collection of books of all types from
novels, magickal grimoires to books on
alternative health. I sometimes have a habit
of collecting people as well, which hasn’t always
been positive even though I was actually
trying to help someone. I am afraid I tend to
be gullible at times for the hard luck story.

Most days I am either
on the internet, watching movies or chasing
two ten year-old twins around. Sometimes I spread
myself too thin but the internet gives one a
chance to learn a large variety of things and
connect to people from school days. One in
particular works in the costume department in
the film industry. She tells me some funny stories
about working on the films. I have been fortunate
to meet some very interesting people in my lifetime.

Studied the occult and was
involved in spiritualism but got away from that
because it wasn’t exactly my niche. I live mostly in
my mind and I like to discuss deep topics or little
known facts in the area of the paranormal/occult.
Like many others I am interested in the vampire
in general which explains why I am here. Also,
to meet new and interesting people and there
are a lot of those on Vampirerave.
