I'm working out some kinks so please bear with me, mostly it's my own two feet i'm stumbling upon but i'm sure i'll fall into something good.
Let's start off with a couple quotes from some of my favorite men:
"Habit is the great deadener"-Samuel Becket
"Only the gentile are ever truly strong"-James Dean
"...There are hardly any excesses of the most crazed psychopath that cannot easily be duplicated by a normal, kindly family man who just comes in to work every day and has a job to do. ...A man who knew that, knew everything he needed to know about people"-Terry Pratchet, Small Gods
"Deprived of meaningful work, men and women lose their reason for existence; they go stark, raving mad"
"If there is no God, everything is permitted."
"Realists do not fear the results of their study."
"Sarcasm: the last refuge of modest and chaste-souled people when the privacy of their soul is coarsely and intrusively invaded."
"The cleverest of all, in my opinion, is the man who calls himself a fool at least once a month."-Fyodor Dostoevsky (too many to choose from!)
I believe that the point to life is movement and that the only true death is stagnation. If you're not learning, creating, musing, loving, laughing, growing, then you're not living.
I think a profile is meant to be an expression of who you are (or at least who you want to portray yourself to be) so i won't be jamming pointless graphics down your throat. If it doesn't clarify a point, add to a description or is self made i don't have a use for it. Also, this may be a reason i rate a profile lower, i don't want to have to sift through a bunch of pictures i've seen on a hundred other pages to see what you're all about. I have great reservoirs of patience but excessive graphics tend to make me spring a leak awful quick...
My own personal arsenal in the life long battle against stagnation would be both scholarly and artistic advancement. I love words and hope one day to become an accomplished wordsmith along with a successful metal-smith. I dabble in most media [graphite, prisma, charcoal, oil/dry pastels, ceramics, metal, stencils, origami, written word, the list goes on (hopefully infinitely] and my tastes are extremely varied. At the moment a few of my favorite artists are Andy Goldsworthy, M. C. Escher, Banksy, (see additional pictures, they are in descending order) just to name a few and they're always changing. I love collaborative projects, something about having someone to bounce ideas off of tends to lend to a more dynamic piece i think.
And the soundtrack to my life? Well, i guess that depends on the day you catch me on. If it's raining, then probably Louis Armstrong, Gershwin or Voltaire, if it's bright and sunny you'll catch me belting out the deceptively poppy yet undeniably sardonic lyrics to some Nightmare of You song, or maybe Bright Eyes, if i'm hyper i'm probably being a smart ass to the tune of the Casualties, Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphy's (redundant i know, but at least i know the difference between the two...), the Distillers, MSI, or the Stray Cats, if i'm morose try not to trip on the sad girl's shoes drooping down the street with the following drowning out the world: Cursive, Depeche Mode, NIN, Manson, Mars Volta, the Dears.... That's only a very short list and i'm missing quite a few of my favorites but as you can see, i have fairly eclectic tastes. I don't discriminate because of how something is classified. I can be a bit of an elitist sometimes (we all are, dammit, even if we won't admit it) but i try to break down my own barriers when it comes to music. Usually lyrics are a determining factor but not always, the biggest factor on whether i like something or not tends to be feeling. If i like who i'm with when i hear something for the first time then i'm more willing to like the music. My inquisitive, intellectual nature usually gravitates toward interesting, off beat sounds (IE bands like Cursive and Mars Volta) while my heart is well chained to a heavy bass beat and punk stylings.
Ahhh punk.... i grew up around the punk scene (gutter, DIY, 80's, you name it) so that genre holds a special place in my heart. I KNOW MOST OF IT'S CRAP so please don't send me a bunch of 'punk is dead' messages. For me punk is like that mean, sonofabitch bulldog that you've had forever that everybody hates, the one that's missing an eye, part of both ears, it's sanity, and will happily chew on (gum more like it, it's teeth rotted out a good 20 years ago...) anything and anyone that moves, but you love the hell out of it even though everybody keeps telling you to put it down.
Basically, my attitude is who am i to judge what sounds feel good to your ears? It's not up to you anyway, we like what we like and while we can set up standards of taste it all comes down to what shivers thy timbers, yes? I know i have bands i'm not going to scream from the roof tops that i enjoy (*cough cough* Chiodos...what? i said nothing.)
TAKEN by this very handsome man ;) :

PS If you are interested in Les Enfants please, let me know with a message. I will not take the hint if you're just lurking around my profile. The same goes for other admins. I am happy to introduce anyone to the Coven who shows initiative :)
