The eyes in the portrait almost seem to draw your Full attention. You hear a familiar sounding strange Jazz song playing from an old record player sitting on a Coffee table. As you hear the record skip a few times and a voice that almost speaking to you. "Do not be alarmed my dear "I only want to show you something" You feel almost confused but see no one in the hall and hear the record skip again and continue to play Jazz Music.
James Patrick March was a serial killer who built and owned the hotel in the 1920s. He designed it to hide and hunt his victims. March lived in Room 64 with his wife Elizabeth and was attended by the devoted Miss Evers.
March confessed he had tried many drugs in his time. However, this couldn't satisfy him; it lead to his serial murder addiction. He was also said to be a man of "new money" meaning he made his own fortune, to which he added he did at an early age. Not much has been revealed about Mr. March's past just yet. He described his father as being a true believer, and the "meanest son of a bitch he'd ever seen".
March despises religion, explaining to one of his victims that it was the worst thing in the world right before he killed him, and that he was going to have to kill God, because as long as there was a God, men like himself would never find peace. He also went as far as to collect all the bibles from his hotel bed stands, and arranged them with a pile of his victims that he had left for the police.
March killed his maid after she told him that it would be an honor for her to be his last victim and then himself before he could be apprehended by the police for his crimes, and his spirit still remains in the Hotel Cortez.
Personality and Appearance
James March is an attractive young man in his early thirties, with an average body size, very careful to his outward appearance. He always wears pinstripe suits in 30s style, although he died in 1926. His black hair is combed back, he has a mustache like that of Vincent Price, and striking dark brown eyes. An interesting element of him is his strange accent, reminiscent of the Brahmin accent.
Mr. March has a distinctly sadistic personality and he seems to get pleasure in deadly rage on his own victims and also to have sexual intercourses during the killings, which occur in ways quite theatrical.
His personality was strongly influenced by his father, a fervent religious man, who sparked in him a profound aversion to the Christian values, so as to wage a personal battle against God, nihilistically speaking.
Story
James March was born on October 30th, 1895. He started killing in the 1920s when he also built a hotel where he can keep his victims' bodies and create special hallways and rooms to make killing more fun. He had a wife that loved hearing his victims screaming for help. He often used to decapitate them by playing bloody cricket, get them walled or have sex with their dead bodies.
He would throw them to a big hall in the basement that multiple chutes lead to. However, the police found clues and came to the hotel to arrest him. When his faithful minion, Miss Evers told him, he decided to kill them both by letting her choose which way to die - with a knife or with a gun. She decided to let him kill her as his last victim and after that he sliced his throat. He became one of the most famous serial killers of all time. However, their ghosts remained in the Cortez.
When Tristan came to the hotel, he was trapped in the elevator but managed to come out by opening the doors himself. He got on the floor that their ghosts inhabit and heard jazz music playing leading him to one of the rooms. He stumbled upon some of March's jewellery and tried to steal it when March appeared.
After a talk, Miss Evers came into the room with a girl who tried to prostitute in the lobby. March offered Tristan to take her last breath but he refused so he killed her himself. Tristan left calling him crazy.
After "googling" him and being turned by the Countess, he found any detail about him and became his fan. He became interested in killing and wanted to do it. March showed up and invited Tristan to see his black closet - a sliding wall leads into a small space with a big spike. Then Will Drake comes in with Claudia talking about his plans to tear out the floor and make it his atelier. When March finds out he is determined to kill Will and makes Tristan do it.
James March holds an annual Devil's Night soir e every year on Halloween where he brings America's greatest serial killers who have ever lived together to celebrate their crimes. 2015 is no exception and the guest list is ready when Richard Ramirez arrives and is welcomed by a tourist family that he can kill as a gift by March.

James is excited when his ex-wife Elizabeth wants to have dinner with him a week earlier than regular. She pays him a visit and tells him that she plans to get married for Will Drake.
Mad at her because she teases him that she never loved him, he tells the story of how he trapped her former lovers Natacha and Rudolph in a barricated hallway of the hotel almost a century ago which made her think that they ran away. He helps Ramona Royale kill Queenie so she can drink her blood in order to kill The countess. He later orders John Lowe to kill the countess.
The Character of James Patrick March in the American Horror story Hotel Series ,portrayed by Evans Peters is based on Doctor,Harry Howard Holmes, born was Herman Mudgett, was the first serial killer to be hanged in America. He went to the University of Michigan Medical School in 1884 to become a doctor. During this time, he often stole bodies from the school laboratory and disfigured them, and then claimed that the people had been killed accidentally.
Through this, he was able to collect insurance from policies that he took out on each person. After he graduated, he moved to Chicago. Here, he convinced a local pharmacy worker to allow him to take over ownership of a hotel. At the hotel he experimented with bodies, often letting the women he chose to be victims suffocate to death. The bodies were often dissected, stripped of their flesh and made into skeleton models. He then sold the bodies to medical schools.
