What's the belief system you base your life around? tell me your stories.
I'm an eclectic pagan and sang vamp however I really do not blend them together. I believe we all have some form of personal powers and should use them for self improvement, and accuracy as best possible
Belief (and non-belief, which too is a belief) are borrowed and broken crutches, which will not allow you to run. Knowing is what should be the objective. Without waging a war for and against a belief system, know what you can. Why should we have pimp in between, when Reality itself is ready to reveal itself (us).
Beliefs are what start wars and divide people. I have something more along the lines of my own code and understand. First I live to live my life without direct impact on others. My theory is if it does not harm any one else you are free to do as you chose. Second Never let anyone be harmed. Third unfortunately there must be a certain amount of suffering in the world, a necessary evil if you will. There is a parable about a creature in a cave that must be forced to suffer for everyone in the village to have bliss. Some turn away to suffer along side and others are continent to allow it so they might never have pain. It escapes me now but I if remember Ill repost of maybe a kind soul could help me out. That is cliff notes version of what I have come to see to be true on this world.
Beliefs like Paganism are more spiritual than Philosophical, or moral codes
Agreed. In this site, it would be better to ask:
To which philosophy(ies) do you dedicate your lives to?
Morals.
I believe in thinking and using common sense. I do not assume anything and research if i do not know something. If I have a question and have done research but no answer i then ask someone that may have the answer to my answer.
I have high family morals as well. Being with family and friends is important to me.
I have other morals similar to the above. Having morals in life is something that I value. Without values or morals it is hard to go to go through life happy.
started seeking 'balance', after two torturous relationships... and, as I seached for me... I learnt more, so much more of my potential and, of what can be possible...
I'm a Follower of Lord Shiva, I'm Hindu, been so for some time. Trying to Sum up Hinduism in any aspect would be be a gross understatement of the very aspect of Hinduism. All I can say is that it's extensive, and beautiful.

I want to Live, the best I can and, help those who Need, as best I can, as I make my way on my own Path.
my philosophy in religion and in politics is something along the lines of
"leave me the hell alone"
that said, im an asatruar...specifically a Freyrsman. there are some other things about my beliefs that i wont be going into here...but thats the basics.

caring and, learning.
I recall once helping a fellow put on his own socks, for the first time in twenty seven years. And, to see the look on his face was a sheer joy, as he said "I want to show my sister."
then there's been the day my comics tutor looked around the class and said, "you all sit thee in the early morning scribbling away, thinking you're the only ones."
Well, look around," said he, "you're sittin in a class of only ones".
Now, that had been one helluvva learning curve.
so yeah, caring and learning.
morals and following my heart and mind trying not to second guess myself and trying to live my life to the best and not just tossing it out like garbage
I forgot to add one thing, be better than those I criticise.
LOL not sure you meant to say that quite like you did because if you are criticising someone, how can you claim to be 'better' (a better person for being critical)?
For me I like the cynics, and if not them the notion of quality, quality in our leaders.
Not plastic replicas of roman idols, not modern reproductions of ancient busts fashioned in modern castes,
Not quasi cops and military borne of deprivation. But rather those borne to a cause who live and die by a code...that to me is quality.
Sadly our leaders today display Little quality, only the need to be revered at any present cost.
A cost we see beyond.
You ma have noticed how the clock has ticked down upon them, it will get worse.
Well said, J R Tolkien was an advocat of these ideas, When Faramir refused the ring of power he said " TIME FOR FARAMIR TO SHOW HIS TRUE QUALITY".
This is the most important party of the whole film and book, the fact a mortal refused wealth and power to free his subjects.
And they call it a childrens book? I think not, it speaks of the power of Kings and Masons in the early 20th century.Of course some would say this power play continues today.
Winks at you ; )
To give the new guy a right to post. I shall explain a few things before I tell what my religious reasons are on acting beforehand.
Theistic Satanism (also known as Spiritual or Traditional Satanism) is the worship or reverence of Satan as a deity. It comprises several viewpoints, and typically includes a belief in magic, which is manipulated through various rituals. It may also include the usage of meditation and self expansion. Traditional Satanists often find inspiration from older sources, such the 1862 book Satanism and Witchcraft.
( Apart of this religious view point. )
Luciferianism can be understood best as a belief system or intellectual creed that venerates the essential and inherent characteristics that are affixed and commonly given to Lucifer. Luciferianism is often identified as an auxiliary creed or movement of Satanism, due to the common identification of Lucifer with Satan. Some Luciferians accept this identification and/or consider Lucifer as the "light bearer" and illuminated aspect of Satan, giving them the name of Satanists and the right to bear the title. Others reject it, giving the argument that Lucifer is a more positive and easy-going ideal than Satan. They are inspired by the ancient myths of Egypt, Rome and Greece, Gnosticism and traditional Western occultism.
( apart of this religiousness as well. )
Our Lady of Endor Coven, also known as Ophite Cultus Satanas (originally spelled "Sathanas"), was a satanic cult founded in 1948 by Herbert Arthur Sloane in Toledo, Ohio. The group was heavily influenced by gnosticism (especially that found in the contemporary book by Hans Jonas, The Gnostic Religion), and worshiped Satanas, their name for Satan (Cultus Satanas is a Latin version of Cult of Satan). Satanas (or Satan) was defined in gnostic terms as the Serpent in the Garden of Eden who revealed the knowledge of the true God to Eve. That it called itself "Ophite" is a reference to the ancient gnostic sect of the Ophites, who were said to worship the serpent.
( lastly this one as well. )
I am basically a true satanist.
thought this was about philosophy, not religion?
I truly don't think they're the same...
ah. 'a better person than those one criticises', is what I meant... if one thinks, or says someone is arrogant, or just plain unkind... it might be unkind to say so...
..might be.
I'm disillusioned by what's real and what's not. My philosophies are constantly changing. Trying to find a balance is the difficult part. Revenge is my biggest motivator, although I know it shouldn't be. Life seems to surreal and "evil" to be random. I tend to sway anywhere between "virtual reality" to the opposite end of my spectrum; a "curse" being the cause of this "evil."
I have little to work with other than a few clues presented to me, my intuition, perceptions, and logic. Rest assured, I will get to the bottom of what's haunting me whether it's external or internal.
Philosophy is a way of viewing the world. I posted those as a debational Philosophy terms.
But some say it is religion and yes. Those are religions and are Philosophies together.
I generally go through life trying to be a good person...though sometimes doesn't always work out. I believe what goes around comes around, and the way you treat others is how they will treat you.
And definitely trying to find a balance within ourselves is very important I think.
Even though Im not Wiccan, I very much agree with "An harm it none, do what ye will."
And even thats interpreted so very differently from person to person.
Interesting question because I am a follower of Witchcraft. For me, the connection that I got we the Goddess and Gods, put me in a different place than many human. I live life to the fullness and always looking for nature to be my companion.
philosophy is clear thought.
religion? obscured by faith.

As of this week I’ve got to get used to the idea of having degenerative disease [[of the spine]] and, the latter is because I had got someone out of a locked cubicle toilet safely for him; someone who was twice my weight and had been having a grand mal seizure, for over seven minutes, using two dead lifts. I could say, I saved a life twenty odd years ago and, this back is the result. The question I now ask myself is, “would I do it again, if needed?” And, the answer is ‘probably.’
My way of life is Paganism
accepting what happens, living without blame or guilt,
accepting the world for what it is and see past The
World of Form to another plane of existence to attain ultimate oneness
nods head.. as I intimated in another thread, sounds like a definition of Buddhism, to me.
That depends on your view point
to me Buddhism sounds like a definition of
Paganism
but in the end
their all the same in one
people are just to ignorant to realize it
or to hard headed to admit it
one day people will see though
Hmmm religion vs philosophy
I never really had a thought either way. Though I do see a connection between the two. At the same time I can see why some people would also separate them.
One definition of philosophy is "The study of the fundamental nature of knowledge, reality, and existence"
Can that not be also applied to why some choose to follow or study a religion? To try to gain knowledge or insight into the nature of reality or our existence?
True that religion is more so based in faith but there are also a great deal of knowledge to be found in texts from various religions.
Another definition is "A theory or attitude held by a person or organization that acts as a guiding principle for behavior"
A person's personal philosophy acts as their moral code for their life and behaviors, which if you ask any person who is spiritual or religious does stem from their faith. Not just from Christianity either.
As for me, I've had my own morals not based on religion seeing as how I didn't become a pagan until I was in my late teens and my family is staunchly atheist. But the values that I have learned to respect from various other belief systems have expanded my own basic philosophies.
I have an agreement with the vicar where I do voluntary work.
I'll do 'His' work.. if'n He leaves me alone.

a pleasant drunk, standing at the church doors, pointed to my chest and, said to me; “You have the soul of an angel.” And, the thing was, he was an absolute Grock of a fellow! That one remark had made my night
I tend to be an idealistic person but try to be as tolerant of different philosophies as is possible. There are quite a few philosophes to be read throught history. These range from Socrates to Sartre and Immanuel Kant. I've read a little of Emerson & Thoreau. I guess my beliefs span different genres but am pretty much willing to give anything a try.
