In this article I am attempting to explain, in easy to understand terms, what exactly a “sanguinarian vampire” is. There are many theories pertaining to all manner of philosophy and belief; soul creation, prana/life force feeder, evolutionary mutation, medical condition and even alien involvement. I will discus none of these in this paper. I will only attempt to classify this “creature” by common symptoms found in most, if not all, cases of “vampirism”. It is my hope that this article, devoid of any opinion on the reasons behind this condition, will aid people in determining an answer to one of the most commonly asked questions in the “vampire community”; “Am I a vampire?”.
The following is a list and description of the most common traits of vampirism.
1) First and for most is a physical craving for blood characterized by some of, but not necessarily all of, the following symptoms when it is not consumed on a regular basis:
a) thirst/hunger: Prolonged thirst which can not be quenched by any normal means accompanied by prolonged hunger that can not be satiated by any normal food.
b) chronic head ache: Usually occurring in short burst. Migraines that come on very rapidly and intensely and that subside quickly after word.
c) muscle ache/spasms: Localized pain around joints and muscular structures, usually occurring in the arms, shoulders, neck, and legs. Muscle spasm and twitches are also not uncommon in the extreme later stages of “blood lust”.
d) insomnia: An extreme inability to sleep resulting from lack of blood. Not to be confused with some “vampires” tendencies to be nocturnal.
e) emotional distress: Usually identified as the lose of the ability to control ones emotions. appears almost as a rage disorder in the later stages. Depression is also very common as are bouts of uncontrollable anger and feelings of helplessness.
f) paranoia: Occurring in the extreme later stages of “blood lust”. Feelings of persecution and un-rational distrust of others actions and motives.
g) mental instability: Uncommon until the extreme later stages of “blood lust” is a type of dementia and mental displacement usually seen only in the mentally ill. It is characterized by unstable thinking and erratic thought process.
A “vampire” will experience most, or all, of these symptoms in varying degrees of severity pertaining to the length of time it has not ingested blood. Symptoms usually dissipate between 24-48 hours after the ingestion of blood, depending on the severity of the symptoms and the length of time the vampire had previously gone without “feeding”. The cravings typically return within one to two weeks after the consumption of blood. The physical craving for blood is THE most important symptom in the identification of “vampirism”. If the subject dose not feel this compulsion, then it is extremely unlikely, bordering on impossible, that he or she is in fact a “vampire”. For those that are unaware of there vampirism, or “awakening” these symptoms will appear in the same manner but in much less severity than a vampire who has been feeding for a given length of time. As the “awakening vampire” will be unaware of his or her “vampirism”, the presented symptoms should be compared with his or her own physical condition, if all other possible medical causes (one should see a doctor immediately if any of theses symptoms arise, as they can be indicative of other serious medical problems not relating to “vampirism”) then it is likely that the subject may be a “vampire”.
2) Enhanced senses are also common in a vampire. The degrees of enhancement vary form a slight increase in night vision to giving a blood hound a run for its money. No two subjects are alike in this respect, but most vampires report some changes in there senses after “awakening”.
a) vision: A marked increase in night vision is almost always noticed. it ranges from any where from just a slight increase, to being able to read a road sing at fifty feet by nothing but star light. Day blindness is also common. similar to night blindness, where one is not able to tell the direction in which a far-away object is moving. sensitivity to bright light is also very common.
b) hearing: High an low pitched noises become much more audible. Far away noises become clearer, and the distinction between sounds is reportedly much sharper.
c) smell: Some do not report any changes in this sense, while others report drastic abilities. One “vampire” reported being able to tell if a woman was menstruation at four feet just by smelling the air in close proximity to her. Usually the “vampire” becomes more sensitive to air born pheromones given of by other animals, human or otherwise.
d) touch: Reports on this sense vary widely form no increase what so ever, to being able to tell if another person is in the room simply by the motion of the air felt on the back of the neck.
f) taste: Again, reports a varied, but most “vampires” report a heightened sense of taste causing some foods to become more or less appetizing than once before.
g) other: Most “vampires” report an ability to “sense” the presence of others and objects around them. This is usually reported more buy the older “vampires” than the younger ones. Empathy, or the ability to sense and manipulate the emotions of others is also very common.
3) Enhanced strength and agility are also common symptoms of “vampirism”. Many report any where from a slight increase in lifting capacity to some being able to lift two to three times what there muscle mass would normally allow.
4) Many, if not all, “vampires” report a severe shift in there circadian rhythms, causing them to become nocturnal in nature. This is one of the most widely reported “extra symptoms” of “vampirism”.
5) Photo sensitivity is also a very common problem within the “vampire community”. Many report light case of it, with sun/UV light causing them little or no discomfort, while others report severe sensitivity to the sun and UV light, even to sun block it self. In the extreme cases, it usually manifests as a rash on the exposed area of skin which becomes worse with prolonged contact, ultimately leading to blistering, pealing, and sun poisoning.
6) Most “vampires” report an increased “Fight or Flight” response to stressors. Common among “vampires” are increased instincts and an animistic or predatory nature or way of thinking.
In this paper I have tried not to explain causes of, but simply explain the nature of the most common symptoms of “sanguinarian vampirism”. Many people around the world have wondered weather or not they could be a “vampire” and have been confronted with opinions and theories of it’s origins. It was the authors intention to neatly lay before the reader information which would help him or her deiced for themselves what they are, without forcing an opinion upon them. It is the authors sincere hope that this article will help those who come seeking an answer to a question that they will ultimately have to answer for them selves.... “Am I a vampire?”

Again, I must stress the importance of seeing a qualified physician upon the emergence of ANY of the afore mentioned symptoms, any of which could be caused by, or symptoms of, sever illness and should be checked out IMMEDIATELY. If after the medical examination, no reason can be found to account for the symptoms then it is the authors suggestion that the potential “vampire” obtain a small quantity of blood from a butcher of other safe source and consume it. If the ingestion of blood dose not stop the afore mentioned symptoms of the “thirst”, then it would be advisable to return to a physician again for more tests as it is likely that the subject is severally ill in some fashion
By those definitions I would be a vampire...ha, I wish! I have another word for it, anaemia. :P
I am a Vampire, yes... sang. But I can feed from psi energy and in the sang way.
i will leave that up to others to decide am I or aren't I???
by the time you decide it may be too late :P
i'm a sang vyre but i never put all those things u've listed to my blood lust. i think z my blood lust comes from depression. i once took a psychic medicine (however it is called in english) and my blood lust was gone :) ... now i'm into it again cause i don't take the medicine anymore. i havn't got the medicine cause of the blood lust but to avoid suicide.
