After following the thread "Souls Choice" it because apparent to me that those who believe in reincarnation would more than likely have input and/or opinions on Past Life Regression.

To start, PLR is a process in which a person is put under hypnosis in order to bring to the surface their past lives and the trauma's and experiences. Many times, it is done to try to fix phobia's or irrational fears that one currently has so that they may lead their current life more fully, or in some cases out of pure curiosity.

However, there are certain things to take into consideration when on this topic such as being misled to come out with certain information, having certain experience inadvertently put in your head, or even if there is such a thing as a "past life."

Dr. Jim Tucker, who is a child psychologist, came out with a remark on the subject that I find very interesting. "Even if people could gain from exploring "past lives", little evidence exists to support using hypnotic regression to do so. Many hypnotists can place subjects under hypnosis and get them to recall apparent memories from the past, often with great detail and emotion. The hard part comes in trying to verify that these 'memories' are events that actually happened. In many cases the subject has appeared to remember a life from ancient times, so determining whether it actually occurred is impossible."

So, what are your thoughts on the subject? Have you undergone PLR (and if you have, do you feel it was relevant)? Do you think that it is possible to fix certain aspects of your life simply by making things of the past, present?

Dr. Tuckers conclusions in my opinion were wrong. It perhaps would be relevant under strict psychosis treatment for past life regression sessions with subliminal thoughts, but as a psychiatrist is trained in the levels of subjective thought, this could happen.

But with the confidence from doctor to patiant, the patiant first must write down preciselly and in detail the past life they thought aboutm wether dreamt or otherwise.

I have known people to undergo this type of practice and all was not considered placed thought. On the contrary, the doctor had no hints as to what was going on. The written story was presented to the dr. in charge of the therapy and was astounded by the accuracy of the hypnotherapy.

I know my past life, not of ancient times...As this would be too easy to dismiss. But of a time before the 2 great fires of New Orleans. As I live in New Orleans now, one wonders if my travels to this city was fate.

My point being, past life hypnosis is no staged play, not to mess with the mind with suggestive thought. But is quite real. With my experiance dealing with such matters, I assure you, no dr. may suggest any form of past life networks to the patiant. This would be impossible. The suggestive thoughts themselves would be to let us say...Act as a chicken or whathaveyou...But the seriousness involved with regressions, only the patiant could possibly know.

I think that plr is one of those 50-50 things.

It can be usefull for coming to terms with certain things in this life.

I think there are pitfalls such as auto sugestion etc....but there is a surprising lack of people saying they were someone famous in a past life.

If I could afford it I don't think I would go for it.....I don't personally feel the need.

Soulshroude...

Just to play devils advocate...

Do you think that if a person writes down what they think/believe they were in past lives before undergoing PLR, that what they think and what they actually were might get confused in their own mind?

On the contrary, train of thought is differant than what one has in the subconious or the supersubconsious where hypnosis begins. The paper represents the dream said patiant had before going under hypnosis. Is not seen by the doctor. Only known by said patiant. Which is why said patiant is under hypnosis in the first place.

Past Life Regression is important to those interested in reincarnation. It is not a way for people to simply say, "I was Ben Franklin in a past life!", but a way to take the lessons learned in those past lives and incorporate them into your current psyche. It makes growth that much easier.

Wonderful subject, and very thoughtfully put forward.

Yet I still think someone should have a good reason for being regressed.....as generally there is a good reason why most folk have no concious recall.
