Okay, so leave it to me to post another yet stupid message. I'm just curious, and don't want to bother people, so I thought I'd post it here cause someone was bound to know. Anyways, I noticed, I have viewed 5115 pages, and have spent close to 24 hours on here altogether. I am a "ghoul". However, my friend is a "Spook", has 64 hours, never posts on the forums, doesn't rate a lot, and has as many pages flipped as I do. I know time spent accounts for 50 percent of your status increases, 10 percent for voting, 30 for pages turned, and 10 for forum posts. My question is, lets say I have no spent as much time on here as my friend but flip more pages, post on the forums more, and vote things more can my status move up just as fast without spending so much time? Just wondering...this system is fascinating to me....
Oh yes, and I rate a lot of things and do post on the forum...moderately. I guess more than most people do...*shrugs*
I make public what the make up of your status score is. What I don't make public, is how much of what is required to advance.
It's far too complicated to lay all out anyway. But in essence, here's how it works:
There are 4 scales (pages viewed, time spent, ratings, posts). A percentage is taken of each scale and then added for a total, which is compared against a 5th scale.
There is no one answer for "What is required to reach (fill in the blank)?" There is an infinite number of answers. But for arguments sake, lets say to reach mosquito, it takes 100 pages on the pages scale, 24 hours on the hours scale, 10 ratings on the ratings scale, and 10 posts to the forum. Someone with 120 pages, 22 hours, 20 ratings, 2 posts would probably also be a mosquito.
Like I said, it's complicated.. I'll probably write up an in depth page on the matter as an addendum to the FAQ.
One additional note, as the levels increase, the scales become more exponential in nature... Meaning it becomes harder and harder to advance. The entire scale was set up based on years of usage (Somewhere between 3-5). Not weeks or months.
Awesome. I'm starting to get it, Thanks this explains a lot for me actually. I am starting to see how the scale works just *a little* bit better.
thx for the info...being a newbie here to the realm i need all the info i can get....
you say you are new but you have already attained ghoul status....that is a lot better than a lowly mosquito....hehehehe
Mind you both that your status is not what everything is about here. The purpose is to gain knowledge whilst having fun. Not climbing charts like Britney Spears on MTV. ::Winks:: Have fun.
ahhh noooooo.....i have been compared to Britney
SPears....stake me now...thats it game over....heheheheh......
The status system was conceived and designed as a system that accurately measures a member's site usage. That's all.
being new and finding somewhere i want to call home...don't want to mess up a good thing
just to throw in my 2 cents, i'd like to agree/re-inforce wot was said above, that the status is simply to show how long you've been here, not an indicator of knowledge or power (bar the top 2 obviously) and for people to keep in mind that it's possible to have a whelp come on who rivals Cancer and/or ElderDan in knowledge.
just something to think about
rivalling yoda in knowledge.....powerful in the force you must be......
oops thats elder....not yoda.....hehhee
Doesn't matter where you go... theres always people trying to compete with everyone else.
