My partner has a male name, but is planning on wearing a lot of anythingbutpants on the cruise...evening gowns, female costumes, the works. :) We know gender expression isn't an issue in the goth crowd, but is anybody familiar with Carnival's attitude on genderdress?

This has never come up before really.. not on any of my previous goth cruises.

as long as its within reason, i dont think it should be a problem. The worse that could happen, is they ask him to go change.

Our cruise director "Wee Jimmy" has been known to wear a kilt now and again while on board, so obviously there's at least *some* precedent for men going "pants-free" on the ship...

Wee Jimmy is freakin hysterical!

I would say not to get to outlandish, and he should be fine.

do bear in mind that with some of the cruise ports, the islandes can be rather religous.

I'm sure s/he's planning on going boy for off-ship activities to be on the safe side - was talking about Carnival's attitude specifically. Can you define "outlandish"?

I doubt Carnival has any published policy on it. But it seems to me that someone who's been cross-dressing for any length of time would probably have a general feel for what's acceptable. Phrases like "good judgement" and "common sense" are probably the best advice. Like Z said, most likely the worst that would happen is they'd be told to change (though it would probably take some serious cojones for a staff member to broach the subject!)

Formal night might be a bit trickier, as the dining room dress code has gender-specific requirements. But I've never been on a cruise (Carnival or otherwise) so I'll gladly defer to the experts. Just throwin' in mah two cents...

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just keep in mind that we are the minority on board, and that others might have some liquor-fueled things to say about it.

I've already brought a couple of shirts to go under my industrial vests if anyone decides males going sleeveless is unacceptable....but thats where my tats are damneet!
