Vampires & Demisexuality

Real vampires love Vampire Rave.

In modern times, very few people actually understand what the terminology "Demisexuality" means. However, those who actually experience being demisexual can tell you how in-depth the subject matter really is. You may think to yourself,
"How does demisexuality and vampires go together?"
In reality, it's pretty much straightforward.
Now, as we all know, many different stories and interpretations have painted vampires as these bloodthirsty, hypersexual creatures, who become aroused with just anyone. Bedding anyone for their sexual pleasure, and not only just for their feeding habit. But how often do we come across a demisexual vampire?
Not very often!

So the first thing to acknowledge is that demisexuality is an asexual orientation. Stemming from the asexual spectrum of the LGBTQ+ community. Asexuality means the lack of interest in any sexual activity of any kind, and that one does not find the act appealing in their romantic relationships. For someone who gets the ick, and it's honestly valid. However, with demisexuality, it just means that a person experiences sexual attraction ONLY when there has been an emotional connection established first before anything sexual can begin. They value emotional closeness and bond more than anything, and will gradually build up a solid foundation before they can proceed to the sexual phase of the relationship.
You see where I'm going with this?
How often have we seen a vampire value emotional closeness with someone and truly be sexually committed to that one person? They experience their primal, sexual urges only after engaging with their lover emotionally. The lust and pure instinct to ravage a lover, but can only do so if the nature of the relationship has built up significantly to that emotional level. It's truly unheard of.

Although upon my research, I came across an article that touch basis on exactly the two subject matters, Vampires and Demisexuality. I will say this, as a Demisexual woman myself. Just because Demisexuality is a part of the Ace spectrum of LGBTQ+

IT DOES NOT MAKE YOU GAY OR QUEER

Because guess what, heterosexual demi folks do exist. We do exist and we are out there.

Anyhoo, let's get back to the article at hand, titled "[Pride 2023] Is 'What We Do in the Shadows''s Guillermo Demisexual?" written by E.R. Whittingham.
Whittingham discusses the sexual orientation of the vampire Guillermo from FX's vampire comedy 'What We Do In The Shadows'

(SPOILERS AHEAD)

***************************

'From moments into the pilot episode when both Nadja and Laszlo individually confess to having sexual affairs with Baron Afanas, What We Do in the Shadows has always been casually yet delightfully queer. As many fans of the show know by now, the vampires are clearly pansexual, although these labels are not used in the series. Nandor has his harem of 37 "girl wives” and “guy wives" brought back from the dead, Nadja's human lover Gregor was once reincarnated as a washerwoman among many other forms… and as for the extremely licentious Laszlo? "Anything gets me hard”, he nonchalantly announces to the cameras.

It’s not just the vampires that are LGBTQIA+. Long-suffering familiar/ bodyguard/ eventual badass Guillermo de la Cruz (played wonderfully by Harvey Guillén) came out as gay to his family in a very sweet and poignant scene in the show's fourth season, and viewers were properly introduced to his boyfriend Freddie in the season's penultimate episode. But throughout the show's run, there seem to be more layers to Guillermo's orientation and identity than meets the eye. On closer examination, it could be that Guillermo is demisexual/ homoromantic.

For context, demisexuality is when someone eventually experiences sexual attraction to a person through an emotional bond developed with them rather than instantly at first glance. It comes under the asexuality umbrella, a part of the LGBTQIA+ community which is already sorely underrepresented in mainstream culture (including the horror genre, where sexuality is a prominent trope. This may be thanks to its roots in gothic literature but that's another story.) Positive representation from the ace community (such as asexual activist and model Yasmin Benoit and the character Todd from BoJack Horseman) helps to show that asexual people can still fall in love and happily be either sex-favourable, indifferent or rather uncomfortable with the idea. This, of course, includes demisexuals, and with this in mind, demisexuality seems to fit Guillermo rather well.

Guillermo does show signs of asexuality throughout the show. Unlike the highly promiscuous vampires, he appears to have no sexual interest, needs or desire whatsoever. Yes, Guillermo has had a strict Catholic upbringing but that's not to say asexuality doesn't play a part in it either. As mentioned before, it is definitely possible to be sex-favourable without having the desire to engage in sexual activity directly, especially in asexuality. (And it’s difficult to imagine the average vampire’s familiar lasting very long in their career if they weren’t sex-favourable, or at least indifferent.)

A notable example of Guillermo’s asexuality is in Season 1’s episode “The Orgy”, in which the vampire residence has been selected to host the Bi-annual Vampire Orgy, a very important social event in vampire culture. Yet despite its significance to vampires, and considering how badly he wants to become one himself, Guillermo shows no excitement to be involved, something which he has shown to previous important vampire engagements (such as the Baron’s visit).

He becomes increasingly uncomfortable when faced with more and more of the vampires’ outrageous demands as they prepare for the orgy, such as describing the sexual activity going on due to the lack of mirrors. Guillermo even proceeds to tell the cameras in an interview at one stage "I don't kiss and tell… and I don't kiss." Another example of hinting that Guillermo could be asexual is in Season 3’s “The Casino” when Laszlo and Nadja tease Guillermo into revealing if he has a love life. This is followed by Laszlo’s notable and very open speech about “how everyone fucks and sucks” (which some asexuals can heartily disagree to).

Throughout this oration, Guillermo looks as if he would rather be anywhere but there.

This leads to Guillermo’s eventual relationship with Freddie (Al Roberts) in Season 4. Guillermo adores his British boyfriend, who he admits is the first person he has ever “dated dated”. There is a lot of romance between the two (until Nandor’s selfish meddling) but Guillermo doesn’t indicate any lust or sexual desire towards Freddie. As previously mentioned, unlike a number of false representations and assumptions, asexuals can still feel romantic attraction and needs as much as any allosexual and Guillermo, if he were on the asexual spectrum, is no exception.

Vampire Biology Explained- The Science of Vampirism
Historical Origins of Vampires

Real vampires love Vampire Rave.

Throughout the annals of history, a tapestry of mythical creatures has woven its way into the fabric of human culture, straddling the nebulous boundary between the realms of imagination and reality. From the awe-inspiring forms of ogres and dragons to the enigmatic allure of werewolves and giants, these fantastical fables have transcended cultural and temporal divides, captivating hearts and minds for generations. Among this pantheon of spectral beings, none stand as prominently as the vampire, an enigmatic entity driven by an insatiable thirst for human blood, forever etching itself into the collective psyche of humanity. In this profound exploration, we embark on a captivating odyssey, peeling back the layers of myth to uncover the concealed biological truths that might just lie beneath the surface of vampire legends.

The Genesis of Vampire Lore

Vampire myths, like tendrils of a sprawling vine, have wound their way into the rich tapestries of cultural narratives across the globe. From the remote reaches of Russia's strigoi to the Philippines' manananggal, these beings share a common thread: an unquenchable desire for human blood. While the roots of these legends trace back through time, it was the narratives of 12th-century Europe that solidified the framework of the contemporary vampire archetype. Yet, it was the literary prowess of authors like Bram Stoker, who crafted the iconic "Dracula," and the cinematic masterpiece "Nosferatu," that lent further definition to our modern perceptions of these creatures of the night.

Unmasking Vampires: A Biological Hypothesis

Amidst the skeptical dismissal of vampire folklore as mere flights of fancy, a bold hypothesis dares to emerge—one that posits a kernel of scientific plausibility lurking within the shadowy realms of myth. With the torch of scientific curiosity illuminating the path, we delve into the tantalizing notion of vampires as bearers of a virus, a phenomenon known as the Human Vampiric Virus (HVV). This hypothetical pathogen infiltrates its host's cells, triggering a transformative cascade that culminates in the emergence of the vampire.

The Cryptic Vampiric Slumber and Transformation

The transition from mortal to immortal is a metamorphosis shrouded in cryptic vampiric slumber, a phase marked by flu-like symptoms, a racing heart, and an insatiable thirst that mirrors the legendary creature's lust for blood. Upon awakening from this profound slumber, the nascent vampire undergoes a series of striking physical alterations: limbs elongate, canines extend into fangs, and the once-vibrant complexion pales into a spectral hue. The influence of the virus heightens the senses, gifting the vampire with a nocturnal vision akin to that of their bat cousins, acute auditory acuity that captures even the faintest whisper of sound, and an uncanny ability to discern intricate patterns in their surroundings.

Enhanced Abilities and Adaptive Characteristics

The viral intervention goes beyond mere superficial changes, endowing vampires with a suite of superhuman abilities that defy the boundaries of human potential. Heightened strength, agility, and endurance become their birthright, a result of intricate shifts in muscle composition and metabolic processes. As their once-pulsating heart slips into dormancy and their circulatory system undergoes a profound transformation, the telltale pallor of their skin becomes a hallmark of their new existence. The article delves into their capacity to enter states of hibernation, a mechanism that not only conserves their newfound energy but also offers insight into their unique methods of sourcing vital nutrients.

The Essence of Blood and Dietary Evolution

The concept of vampires subsisting on human blood is far from novel, yet this exploration takes readers on a fictionalized journey into the mechanics of vampiric digestion. Their entire digestive system undergoes an evolution to accommodate the consumption of blood, while their microbiome adapts to efficiently process the iron-rich sustenance. This adaptation, fascinatingly, affords vampires the ability to sustain themselves through minimal feeding cycles, a dietary strategy that safeguards prey populations from irrevocable depletion.

The Enigma of Immortality and Perpetual Youth

The beguiling traits of agelessness and immortality, often inseparably linked to the vampire, find speculative elucidation within the article's pages. Augmented telomerase activity, an upsurge in the production of antioxidants, and DNA repair mechanisms that are finely tuned all contribute to the vampire's uncanny resistance to the ravages of cellular aging.

Deconstructing Legendary Fallacies

No exploration of vampires would be complete without an unraveling of the fabric of conventional myths. The purported aversion to sunlight, the dread of crucifixes, and the notion of invisibility in mirrors are deftly deconstructed, revealing these facets as rooted not in the supernatural but in unique physiological sensitivities.

In Closing

Though firmly rooted in the realm of speculative fiction, this exploration underscores the undeniable interplay between scientific inquiry and the art of imaginative storytelling. Within this vividly painted depiction, vampires materialize as a mesmerizing fusion of scientific principles and creative narratives. Ultimately, the timeless allure of vampires serves as a testament to the enduring potency of human imagination, seamlessly blurring the demarcation between mythology and reality.

Loneliness, Desire & Yearning

11:37 Apr 14 2026
Times Read: 160

Truth be told, being single for six years straight has been something I've come to accept. My last relationship was in 2021, and even then, what I wanted was disregarded. The yearning and romance never happened. Being monogamous and attempting to try and accommodate a polyamorous person was never something I agreed to. I was a people pleaser, and having to change myself into who I wasn't (relationship-wise) was emotionally exhausting. Now, as I'm in my 30s and remaining single by choice, I look at how much romantic and physical connection I desire, but also yearn for. The feelings of loneliness, while craving the desire of a romantic partner in hopes of building a solid future, still linger in my thoughts.

I've come to terms with my single life, and in this day and age, it's rare to come across another person who genuinely wants the future as I do. Honestly, I was always a hopeless romantic and always got easily attached. I caught feelings fast and was the clingy, needy type. It wasn't until I learned about my attachment style, which made complete sense about who I was when it came to others in my life. Constantly people-pleasing, always putting everyone first before myself, being the go-to person, not being able to say "No", worried/anxious I was going to be abandoned, my clingy/needy personality, being told I'm 'too much'.. I learned that my attachment style is Anxious Preoccupied Attachment. Growing up, there was a history of unmet needs. Shockingly, everything made sense as to why I was always giving my all and efforts in relationships, but never having it reciprocated.
Upon learning this, I also realized that I could never be loved in the way my heart throbs for.

Besides, being Demisexual + Demiromantic, I physically can not be with anyone unless there is an emotional connection first and foremost. If there is no solid foundation for that emotional bond to develop and grow, I can not see myself being with a partner. I do not see them in that sexual or romantic way. Hence, my being single. I need to have that solid connection more than anything, first, before deciding to be in a relationship.
Which I think not that many people would understand. So yes, admittedly, from time to time I crave the love and touch from another person; however, if there's no emotional connection. I see no potential, nor do I feel anything.

I know how lonely I am when it comes to wanting a partner, going out on dates, and enjoying the little things, considering I'm not a materialistic girlfriend. As a woman, I'd be fine with going out for a picnic, hanging out at the arcade/mall, visiting locations, or gaming out with some pizza. Ya know, activities that don't have to cost anything. I'm self-aware of my feelings, and often I keep them to myself because the majority of folks want to hook up for fun, or become FWB (friends with benefits), and personally, that's just not who I am.
I already changed myself in my last relationship, and it made me miserable. I wholeheartedly don't want to experience that again.

While I sit back and stay to myself. The thoughts and "what-if" cross my mind, since it's a rarity. Maybe I'm just a hopeless romantic with my head in the clouds

VR not responding to home Wifi

22:47 Apr 07 2026
Times Read: 212

So all morning and this afternoon, VR is not responding via home wifi. I restarted my router and everything is good with my web browser. Google works as well. But for some reason VR keeps stopping during loading and says check connection. Even when I tried to search up the website I Google, and click the first link; it's still not working. I had turn my wifi off on my phone and use its mobile data right now to make this journal. This issue was even occuring on my laptop through Google Chrome browser. I'm confused as to what's going on.
