I love, love, love recommending kpop music videos. Since we are on Vampire Rave, I thought I could mention some. These are my favorite K-pop videos that are dark and morbid.
1. Hyde by Vixx
One thing you should know about Vixx is they are the kings of gothic aesthetic in K-pop. Hyde is technically based on Jekyll and Hyde. At least that's the feel I get. We get featured with a long haired Leo, which is a blessing, and a possessed looking Ravi.
2. Fantasy by Vixx
Vixx is going to be in the majority if this list because I can name a ton of their songs that sounds dark, let alone looks dark. Fantasy is really well done with hints of the Last Supper and Judas. These guys know what's up.
3. Error by Vixx
I might as well just list all the Vixx ones. So error is kind of dark but more scifi. It's very sad and might get even the toughest people here crying. Cyborgs and forbidden love actually work.
4. The Closer by Vixx
Mannequin challenge and aesthetics. I just love these guys and what they can do with a music video.
5. Voodoo Doll by Vixx
Definitely one of their most dark videos. A crazy girl has all the members(there's six) held captive by using a voodoo doll to punish them. Add that with some amazing dance moves, a skull pimp cane, and choreography that includes stabbing band members and yourself, and you've got a great gothic music video.
6. On and On by Vixx
This one's kind of more sci-fi/steampunk(?). It's still got a dark feel to it and the fact that the men are launched from cannons naked(or at least shirtless), crash on to some random planet, and come out perfectly clean and in suits is a wonderful thing.
7. Black and White by Cross Gene
Cross gene is a kpop group that is a hit or miss when they release a video. But Black and White was a damn hit and it was so good!! The music video is pretty much a horror movie with a great song in the background of the men dealing with their evil sides trying (and technically succeeding) in killing them. So well done and I could watch this over and over.
8. TT by Twice
Not really dark but it's Halloween related. And I don't give a crap how tough you are, if you don't think the girl in the bunny costume is cute, you have no soul! Cuteness overload I tell you!
9. Coup d'tat by G Dragon
G dragon is an amazing artist and a great rapper. This video can get a bit creepy but it's so good and just great to listen when you've had a tough day.
10. Chase Me by Dreamcatcher
This is technically a two part series for Dreamcatcher but this is my favorite one. It's a really cool ghost story kind of feel and the song itself feels like it should be an anime opening. The fact that it's a girl group and not hella cutesy is awesome!
I'm going to stop there but there is one more I technically have to share. It's not dark themed but I know Death Note is a really popular anime. Technically this music videos has some secret nods to the series.
Play with Me by Cross Gene
I love this video and I can listen to this song every day!! Oh my god it's so good! I love the little subtle nods to Death note(A guy sitting and sipping tea like L, the infamous tennis match(Now a ping pong match), as well as a few more. It's playful, it's fun and it's hyper. Love it!
Also, before I go, EXO released a new music video called Power and you should check it out. It's not really dark but it's more fun and just really memorable. I've been into K-pop for a bit and I've yet to see a music video like this. All of the members look great and the fight is interesting and fun. I'm glad they're bringing back their "powers" which was how they promoted the members when they first debuted. The song is great, the music video is awesome, poor D.O. has to survive friendly fire, it's an experience. So please give all of these groups a chance and feel free to comment and rate. Let me know if you want to know more about K-pop and I'll make some more journal entries because I love k-pop! I'll also do some book reviews and stuff like that. See you around!
