Time: The night of Halloween; as close to midnight as possible, but begin the rite before midnight arrives.



Cast a circle, without invoking a Deity.

Scry your nocturnal portal (scrying mirror) while saying:



"And so, the dark ether begins to have full sway. Increasingly difficult to quell, the power of night lingers each weakening day. Yet on this eve does the fabric of darkness ripple and tear. It is this sundered veil of ether that passes over us now. The worlds surrounding us are no longer seen and unseen. On this night, it is the realms of the living and dead we stand between."



Wait and see if any symbols appear to you, but do not worry too much about interpreting them now. There will be plenty of time for that later.

At this point, you should attempt your preferred method for contacting the other side. If there are steps in the rite that thank the Deity for being with you, however, save performing those until the end of the Halloween Rite, maintaining you link with the Divine a bit longer (for the coming steps that involve the Halloween symbol).

And you do need a link. If you do not wish to perform a necromantic rite, invoke a God or Goddess of your choice at this time.

After you either contact the afterlife or just call on a Deity, turn your attention to the Halloween symbol you selected (can be anything that you feel connects with Halloween). Pick it up with two hands and rest it in your palms. Lift your arms up just high enough so you have to tilt your head back a few degrees to see the symbol above you. Make certain you can still see where you are going, for you are now about to begin walking.

Walk clockwise around your altar, visualizing that you are moving through ribbons of varying shades of darkness. That is, imagine that you are walking through the sundered veil of night, allowing the Halloween symbol to pass through these pockets of energy and dark potential. Feel the symbol pulsing with the exposure.

Go to the west quarter of your circle, facing west (with your back to the altar). Lower the symbol to chest level, and bring it close to you. Gaze into the darkness of the west and say:



“Farewell, Lord, as you recede into the darkness. I, your child, shall be searching for your essence in each growing shadow, and will welcome your return on the darkest night of the year.”



Close your eyes and feel the symbol pulsing in your hands.

Rotate clockwise to face the altar; walk towards it. Return the symbol to its place touching the drink and treat.

If it has such a step, perform the part from the necromantic rite that lets the link to Divinity recede. If you did your own invocation, thank the God or Goddess for lending energy to your celebration. Open your circle.

Enjoy the specially charged drink and treat.

Place the Halloween symbol somewhere (but not on your altar) where no one else will touch it. Take a look at or hold this symbol over the coming year whenever you need to feel a connection with the energies of this night – whenever you wish to meditate on or work magick pertaining to the forces of life and death.
