Got myself completely caught up in the Half Life series. Absolutely love what they did with these games. The combat's nothing special but the environment, plot and both the character duologue and animations are awesome.

I was a little disappointed that you're not able to aim down the sights on weapons but then I realized that that's the game's way of showing the gap of skill between you and the Combine solders, who can aim down the sights of their guns. After realizing that I can understand the astonishment of the Combine commander that this army of trained soldiers is unable to kill or even capture a scientist.

The vehicle chases are one of my favorite parts of the game. Specifically the air boat being chased by a gunship through the water canals. When it starts dropping bombs and you gotta do that spin over the barrier between one canal and the other while dodging the falling explosives, so fucking epic.

Not the best driver with the buggy though so my awesome stunts were followed by being wedged between trees n' rocks.

And of course I love how the game is entirely in first person. Everything you experience is from the eyes of the main character. Every explosion, collapsing floor, mine cart ride and elevator mishap is all in first person. Really makes it more intense too, fucking love it!

Hard to believe HL2 was made way back in 2004 and is this amazing.

Ah, Half Life 2, a game back when health didn't regenerate. Just beasted through the game on hard. A little easy for a first person shooter but still a hell of a lot of fun and interesting.

Kinda kicking myself for not picking up this game when it was actually new, but better late than never right? And besides, if I got the original Half Life 2 and experienced the ending knowing I couldn't go straight to Episode 1, I'd be rather pissed, pissed in a good way, but pissed all the same.

Also Valve has to be the bets game company ever! They produce great games for damn near every genre.

I've gotten really good at flipping pens and coins between my fingers. Had a pen in one hand and a 50 cent piece in the other and was flipping them up and down my hands while thinking. Dropped the pen eventually and saw a few tables watching me when I went to pick it back up. Looks really damn cool too.

My favorite characters in MVC3 are Dante and Wesker but Deadpool is by far the most intriguing. He's the only character to understand that he's in a game. What I mean is, he has dialogue directed toward the player, which is unique to him.

For example

When he dies: "You pressed the wrong button!"

Taunt: "Taunt button!"

"I can star in the next Street Fighter game right Capcom!? ...Right?"

"Hey you I'm down here busting my ass while you're sitting on yours watching me jump around, how is that fair!"

And the "Player" is wanted for the destruction of Cleveland in his ending. It's funny as hell.

Arrogance must run in the family. My dad and I were talking about years gone by and got on the subject of his work. My dad is one of the best in the country at what he does. Before the recession/depression he was making $76,000 a year. After great preformance he got a pay bump to $82,000.

He said to his boss "Thank you, now I'll put out 82% effort."

The boss replies with

"You mean you weren't giving 110%?

"No, I was giving 76%, and now I'm giving 82%. You know what it'll take to get more."

Truth or not that is hilarious and I am definitely using that. quote.

I'm not all that good at fighting games but MvC 3 is awesome!

I have 2 teams that I switch between.

Dante, Trish & X-23

Wesker, Deadpool & Hulk

I really like the detail they put into the movies of Wesker and Dante. They have every move in there that they have in their respective games. Which I know is the point, but it doesn't make it any less awesome.

Also, I like Wesker's ending sequence the most so far.

Great, now I'm a hacker. This is just a bad fucking day.

I was playing Battlefield Bad Company 2 again, haven't touched in it a month. Had fun, got some good kills, had a few cool tank battles and took a break. I got back on to find that my rank had been reset to 1, all my equipment is gone and all stats are back at 0. This is notorious punishment for hacking/modding the game. Of course I lack both knowledge and capability to hack my xbox so I'm theroughly confused as to how the fuck this happened. I've been trying to get to EA customer support to rectify this but they seem illusive as hell.

And it's fucking Friday night so I won't get even a look till monday. Why does shit always gotta be complicated?

Dead Island

Just saw the Dead Island trailer and ... wow. Exceptionally well done and very sad. Nearly got a tear out of me to be honest.

Link here for anyone curious.

I love what they did there with the slow motion effect. Show a slow motion scene in reverse while switching to the events leading up to it at normal speed so that both tracks meet up at a touching moment right at the end.

If the company is even half as good at making games as they are trailers I think we have a nominee for game of the year 2011.

Finally made the Assassin logo in Call of Duty Black Ops. The dimensions aren't perfect; the left side is just a little heavier than the right but it'll have to do.

Made my perfect assassin class too, though I have to spell it "ashashin" because the "ass" is censored.

For the perks I'm using Ghost Pro which make me invisible to radar and aircraft as well as prevent my name from showing up when enemies aim at me.

Warlord which allows for a second attachment to your gun.

Ninja Pro which makes it so I make no noise at all and the noise of enemies is amplified.

And equipment

AKS74u with silencer and reflex sight. Wanted to use something else because of the bad rep the gun has but every other SMG is shit.

Crossbow for my secondary because it's fucking awesome!

Semtex, flash-bang and claymore for my equipment.

And I also have the songs Master Assassin from Assassins Creed Brotherhood and Axeman from Resident Evil Afterlife playing in rotation.

So far it's all dramatically upped my performance, which is good.

Life is seriously way too long. Wish we were still at the point where 20s were considered middle aged.

I'm 20 now and I already feel old. And I still gotta endure 40+ years of this crap. Seems more like a punishment rather than an accomplishment.

The average human lifespan is way older than 60- but beyond that- if you were at gun or knifepoint, I'm sure you'd prefer life... or perhaps stricken with a disease that cut your life short at a young age. I've had immediate family members that have experienced these things... I know with a certainty they'd rather be complaining about life 20 than being dead to soon.

A movie day every so often is always nice.

Finally got around to seeing Inception. Good movie but I don't get what's so confusing/deep about it. What I got from it is that we're only as aware of our world as we think we are. But anyone who lucid dreams on a regular basis already knows this.

It is kinda cool though how your definition of reality gets blurred the more you lucid dream. And the thing with the "totem" wasn't just something added into the movie, you seriously should have something like that if you lucid dream regularly.

Mine works the opposite way around though, I try to do in real life what I can only do in dreams, and if it works, I'm dreaming. If not, I'm awake.

Mine is turning the handle on my bed board thing counter clockwise. If I'm dreaming, the wall slides open to reveal a small arsenal. If I'm awake, then obviously nothing happens.

A lot of my silent hill related dreams happen when I forget to turn the handle too now that I think on it. My mind likes to fuck with me apparently.

Saw Resident Evil Afterlife on the xbox today. Pretty good movie. Focusing more on the action than the zombies but there's really only so much you can o with a zombie Apocalypse scenario.

I fucking love that they got Wesker in this movie! More importantly, they have the Wesker from Resident Evil 5 with his super speed dodging.

I'm a sucker for speed so for me the best part in the movie was the 1 min fight scene involving Wesker. I'd sell my damn soul to move like that, damn.

The movie sadly was extremely predictable though. I knew exactly who was going to die and what order they were going to die in the first 5 minuets of them all being introduced. And I pointed out the scene they were gonna die when they showed up.

I do have to thank my film class from last semester. Really taught me how to analyze a movie by the camera angles it uses. Made it kinda fun to dissect the movie.

Been looking through forums about Assassins Creed Brotherhood and observing the different hypothesis on everything. Gonna put my thoughts here since I don't feel like making a damn profile to comment on those websites. If anyone has yet to complete AC brotherhood, stop reading.

*First off, it seems like people are really over thinking the part with Lucy getting stabbed at the end of thee game, pegging her as a Templar and just skewing the hell out of the storyline from that point on.

I will admit that at first glace it does seem likely that she would be one. For one, there's a path of red colored footprints leading from the bottom of the Villa steps all the way to the entrance at the rear of the villa. Then there's her disappearance for an entire chapter near the end of the game. And the obvious fact that Juno wanted Desmond to kill her.

But

-The red footprints appear in the early stages of the game, way before Lucy disappears. They start at the grated well at the bottom of the steps and go to just outside of the rear villa entrance. What I'm thinking is it is either

A - A Templar observing the group and using a secret path out of the villa to avoid detection.

B - bloody footprints, since there have never been a time where footprints showed up in Eagle Vising in past games. This could be the blood of a Templar that was killed by one of the group members and dumped in the well.

The game spans about three and a half weeks, making each sequence roughly 3 days long. If Lucy - the team leader - disappears for an entire sequence (3 days) you would think the rest of the team would notice unless they already knew where she was going. Which would either

A - mean all of them are Templars, in which case why didn't Juno have Desmond kill them as well?

B - my hypothesis is she went to the Assassin HQ to give a secure status update. One thing I noticed in the emails was that all the information was minor. Nothing majorly secure was sent over that channel. Lucy also said at the end of the game that the other Assassins would meet them when they got the Apple, so I'm thinking she left to coordinate this.

And then there's the reason for Juno wanting her dead. During Desmond and Juno's conversation she mentions how the woman Desmond needs to find is not in the room. And it's no secret that there's a connection between Desmond and Lucy throughout the AC series. So to avoid Desmond falling completely for Lucy and not putting his all into making a son with the woman Juno wants him to find - she cuts Lucy out of the picture.

*Then there seems to be a lot of confusion of who sent the email containing the passwords for the others in the group. A lot of people seem to believe it's Subject 16. Which implies that they have not checked out the Project Legacy game on facebook, otherwise the identity of the sender would be easy to figure out.

*Then there's the plot behind the multiplayer. People seem to think the Templars are training so they can beat the Assassins to the other temples. Not sure where they got that from to be honest.

The way I see it. They must have done a little research on the bleeding effect in the past, but since finding the Apple was top priority, didn't devote the resources to studying it further. Once the Abstergo agents got their ass handed to them by Desmond at the end of AC2, they saw how effective it is and set up a side project to train their agents to combat the Assassins more effectively. This is also further enforced by Vidic stating his goal for the project during the multiplayer intro. People must really not pay attention to cut scenes anymore.

I'm really interested to see how much of this I got right, I'm usually spot on with my deductions.

On a side not, I made the Assassins logo n Armored Core 4 Answer and it looks so bad ass!!!

Played the Duty Calls spoof game thing today, fucking hilarious.

It's basically making fun of the formula for shooter games and - aside from them being boring - hits the nail on the head in only about 4 minuets.

My favorite part is the slow motion shoot the truck thing, fucking hilarious!

Jack Thompson - enemy of my enemy

19:09 Feb 08 2011
Times Read: 581

Just read an article from Fox News about how horrible the game Bulletstorm is gonna be, with its over the top violence and sexual content and how video game sex scenes are responsible for the increase in rape....

Then saw the same article on the Escapist and eventually was curious about the controversy around Mass Effect's sex scene way back when and did a little research.

Fox news, along with some other blogger who's name I already forget, made up shit about the game, basically saying it was a sex/rape simulator (what is it with Fox and rape?)

and THEN, I found a small blurb from Jack Thompson - probably the most annoying anti-video game activist - saying that the accusations were ludicrous! That made my dad and I now have slightly, slightly more respect for the man.

On a different note I feel I can no longer stand by Fox news. For a long while I defended them because it looked like all the hatred stemmed from them being a conservative news group in the midst of liberal propaganda, but for them to make blatantly false claims like this on 2 occasions is just sad.

Oh, another part of the article talked about the effects on children this game could have ... but that's why the game has a M rating! It's not for children. It's like complaining an R rated film is too violent for the children who want to see it - that's why it's R rated. Instead of changing the film to veggie tales or some shit, get the children out of the theater!

First major test day of this semester and - I live!!!

Got a 97% on my Sociology test, only missed 1 damn question.

And managed to pull out a 100% in Chemistry.

I did unfortunately realize that there's a slew of papers due in sociology that I haven't even begun thinking about thinking of working on so I'm in a slight panic mode there, but it'll pass.

So over all today was a good day!

Making me an orbital cannon in Minecraft called Freedom Star. Because it'll be in the shape of a star and I'm stealing the name from End War. Right now I'm working on mining enough ore to last me a while and constructing the lift that's gonna get me way, way up there.

It's gonna have multiple cannons for launching TNT at stuff on the surface, as well as trap compartments to drop TNT below it like a bomber. Also will have an escape pod that'll shoot down into the water where I have an underwater facility.

When it's all finished I'm gonna make a youtube video of it destroying far off towns I constructed with the TNT cannons.

Id it just me or does Obama deal with national affairs like he does with his children? I'm listening to his little speech on the violence over in Egypt and he sounds like a parent scolding rowdy children, not the President of the United States.

"we're making it crystal clear ... violence, is unacceptable."

"sorry Mr. Obmba sir, it won't happen again. Promise!"

To kill time during minecraft's night sequences I'm gonna detail the exploits of the day here!

So, day 1:

This map is on a large forested island. I spent most of the day looking around and found a cave near the center, problem was the cave was filled with spiders so I ran my ass out of there before I got killed. The rest of the day was spent gathering wood to build a small house somewhere secure. But the sun set before I had time to build anything so I'm spending the night atop a tree. It's safe but I'll be easy to spot, which means a lot of running come morning.

Thanks to a relentless amount of praise from my friends (since when did I have friends?) I decided to try out minecraft today. I am ashamed to admit I got it illegally, ive been doing so good about not getting pirated games for a long while now, but my father decided to say no to this one, despite it being the least expensive game I asked him to get to date, only $14.

I do plan on buying the full version when it comes out, mainly because I am having a hell of a lot of fun, but until them, pirated version it is.

You wouldn't think the game would be very enjoyable from watching it but it is strangely addictive while playing.

For me, it kinda plays on the "curiosity of the unknown" thing. When you're mining through mountain sides you never know what you'll find. Could be some rare metal, or you could have your cave instantly flooded thanks to breaking through into the nearby lake, or you could dig downward too far and end up falling into a lava flow.

So far I got a structured network of mining tunnels and a security wall I built around the mine's entrance so I can - hopefully - keep working into the night without fear of creepers.

I'll be putting up pictures of the stuff I make or maybe of the detailed mining network later on. Might even make a youtube video too. Might omit the part about the pirated copy for reputations sake. I will buy the full version once my bank account;s set up I swear. But for that to happen my senile grandpa needs to give me a ride to the bank, which I have been waiting on for 3 months now...

Got to talk to my grandma today. Unfortunately she's got Alzheimer's disease but she's still fun to talk to. Her short term memory is horrible so a conversation that would normally last 5 minuets lasts 30 but her long term memory is still really good.

Talked about the usual grandma stuff. That she misses the family, asked what I was doing, then what I was doing in college and then it kinda repeated like that for a few cycles.

She does have some other bad internal problems, like cancer but thankfully she doesn't remember having it so she's still really cheerful. Good person.

Made it into the top 10 percentile in Assassins Creed Brotherhood. I'm on the second highest rung on the ranking pyramid for this month, which feels pretty good. The rank's name is schenishawl or shenishal or ..as hell I don't know how to spell it.

All thanks to my favorite barber assassin which I swear is a sweeney Todd reference.

Taking a long break from the game to play Oblivion and Morrowind again though so by the end of the month my rank will plummet. Hopefully the game will still be popular by the time I get back. But if not, at least I can say I got into the top 10% at least once.

I am a kick ass assassin!
