The idea has been in my head over the years. I wanted to do a "Law Enforcement Guide to Dark Subcultures" sort of deal. People keep telling me to "do something about it" whenever our community has run ins with the police and media. Somehow writing letters to police chiefs and speaking out against "occult specialists" when they get it wrong (*cough* Don Rimer *cough*), is not enough for some. I say it's a good start, but it's time to do more.
So I'm getting the basics down, got an outline and the forward started. It could just be a basic "treat others as you wish to be treated", however we all know it's more complicated than that. Namely, don't just walk into someone's home and start picking up things off of an altar. We know this, they don't. Many of them don't know the difference between Satanists and devil worshipers.
The people doing the training, the "occult specialists", usually are people whom have tons of misinformation and present it as fact. In some cases, this is deliberate. Some have ties to Fundamentalist Christian groups who believe that anyone who is not a Christian is a devil worshiper (and thus have no rights in their mind). Some feel it is their "Christian Duty" to spread these "facts" as a form of spiritual warfare. More info on this
Most of the urban myths about satanism was debunked in The Lanning Report (google it), however we are seeing the same myths now recycled into accusations against the VC/OVC. A small handful of incidents by mentally disturbed persons is being turned into a "huge threat against the youth of America" (or some other ridiculous statement). People buy it because so-and-so says they are an expert, even if that expert has no experience dealing with that community (or just 1 or 2 people).
There is a need for one of our own to do this. We need someone who will go more in depth into the truth and sort out the lies. Will it cure everything? Will the police instantly start treating us with respect? Nothing happens overnight, but it's a start. It's better than doing nothing, which is what some advocate.
Damn, I didn't even hear about Kahn's Birthday tonight. And I had the night off as well. Still didn't have the $ to get down there anyways.
Anyhow, been up here trying to get myself out of debt and getting caught up.
I haven't been to Drum in about two weeks. Spooky guy was there (or "Carlisle" as some have taken to calling him). He seemed to ignore me for the most part. I'm tempted to see his reaction when the whole crew shows up again. Just want to figure out where his head is at.
