Though I knew looking for a creditable and resourceful book on Vampires at my dinky little town library was quite a stretch, I must say I am not surprised to come home empty handed.
I was, however, insulted to find that there were no books in the system about Elizabeth Bathory. I would have been more satisfied to find a book in the system that had been stolen instead, but the complete disregard for the topic of Elizabeth Bathory was unnecessary.
Also of the three books I did find about vampires that were not in the fiction section, two were stolen and the final was a collection of translated fictitious vampire short stories.
Though as I stated before, what else am I to expect from my pathetic little hick-town library. So upon returning home empty handed I turned to my college library, for such a plethora of knowledge could spare a few intellectual books investigating the origin of vampires, could it not? But no. Not one.
I am excruciatingly disappointed. How else I am supposed to start my dissertation? I certainly can not write the whole thing based on websites. I need books! I can feel the librarian in me screaming and brandishing a large, sharp, shiny, and dangerous weapon...

some of the VR Database entries (Articles) have credible references on them, take it from there. There is a lot of academic stuff online if you have student access to sites such as Eduserv, Athens etc
