A new fantasy story written by me in a new fantasy world I made. Know that nothing in this story is real and it is all just fantasy and should not be considered real.

The year 4061

It was Monday, the First of Januari. A Young man stood on a balcony looking down towards the countryside. Lios Dralan always enjoyed looking from this balcony after he was done with work. It was cold and wet however, he enjoyed it anyway. Lios was a Young twenty years old man and he was the youngest adviser in history to the Duke. Lios Dralan is the only son of Aronian Dralan, champion and greatest general to the Duke of Artynia. Aronian has been dead for 2 years now and now Lios was left. In contrast to his big and strong father, Lios is smaller and skinnier then his father but he is wiser. He has always been an intelligent young man. So it was no surprise that the old Duke Fullis II hired him when his father died. Now 2 years later Fullis II was dead and his brother Mulris was Duke. Mulris the Usurper the people call him because it is whispered he had killed his weak brother to become Duke. Fullis was sickly and weak but kind and pretty intelligent. Mulris is a strong and hard man but just and noble. Lios could not imagine that Mulris killed his own brother just for the throne. Lios could not enjoy his peace much longer for duty called. He went back inside and went to sit behind his desk. Many papers where lying there. Lios as an adviser to the Duke had many responsibilities. Among them was the matter of preparing the papers for the next meeting with the council of Lords. The council would meet in the council chamber every week to discuss the events of ruling the country. For many hours Lios sat writing and reading the papers until suddenly someone was knocking on the door. “My Lord, There is an messenger here to see you. He said it is urgent he gets to meet you.” Lios sighed and said ”Let him enter”. A soldier came in to the room and he bowed low. On his armour, Lios saw an coat of arms he knew very well. A red shield with an Black Bulls head on it. It was banner of house Dralan, His own house. “My Lord, Thank you for meeting me. I have come with an message from your uncle, Lord Valinion of Castle Dralan.” Lios took the letter and he opened it. It said:

To Lios Dralan, Chief Adviser to Duke Mulris I Falgrave

We have never met but now I have a great need to meet you.

I am dying and I am without heir. I need you to come to our lands to take my place.

I bid you hurry as I do not have much time left.

There must always be an Dralan in charge of the castle.

Yours,

Valinion VI Dralan,

Lord of Castle Dralan

Lios at first did not answer or even think. But then an longing arose within him to see the great castle his father came from. “I will come to Castle Dralan and I accept the Lords proposal.”

The messenger bowed and he left again. Lios wanted to stay here in the royal court of Lios Castle but this sounded interesting and he did not need to stay forever as he could appoint a Castellan to take care of affairs when returning to court. Knowing time was short Lios went immediately to the royal chambers where the Duke currently was. He requested entry and the guard allowed him in. There at the table sat Mulris I Falgrave, The third Artynian Duke from the House Falgrave. He was an big strong man with long black hair to his shoulders and a big black beard. “Young Lios, I hope you have an good reason to disturb me at this hour.” Lios bowed low and then said ”Your Grace, My apologies for disturbing you however I have an matter of personal nature which requires my presence. My uncle Lord Valinion is dying and he has no heir so he requests me to take my place as his heir as the only other member of house Dralan.” The Duke sat there not answering then he said suddenly “Fine however as soon as your done I want you to return as the Dukedom requires your intellect in these times more then ever.”

More was not said. Lios bowed and he left to prepare his journey.

Five days later nearing the the north of Artynia.

The carriage which Lios traveled in finally came at a stop in a village. Lios saw farms around with gras fields everywhere. A River came from the forest to the north east and went straight in to the sea in the west. In the North Lios could see in the distance a big castle behind the forest. The forest was both to the north and the east. A big dark forest. The village was called Vakly. It was having small stone walls around with an inn in the middle of town with a few houses around. It was bigger then a normal village but smaller then a city. Lios stayed at the inn to spend the night. Most people where wary and stayed away from him. It got even worse when they saw his banner, that of house Dralan. The mayor briefly welcomed them as he said ”Welcome, Lios Dralan heir to our good Lord Valinion VI. I wish you luck” The next day Lios continued the journey. The carriage took the road which went straight through the forest. It was dark and When Lios looked around he saw that it was an very dark and ancient forest. Finally at sunset he arrived. The road went up to a hill and into a Large Castle. Big white walls where all around with huge towers inside. However the entire western part was in ruins and only the eastern part was still standing normal. It looked old but still impressive. When they came to the gate, Two big black doors opened into a wide courtyard with an fountain in the middle. A young woman stood in it. It was a very old but beautiful statue. The carriage went west into the stables as Lios looked around. Only Only 3 guards he saw. Two at the walls and 1 in the courtyard. Lios saw directly northeast big white stairs going into a big door. Lios went inside and he saw a big room with rooms east and west. To the north a big gate stood with two guards in front. They bade him entry into the room. It was a throne room. Lios entered. The throne room was a big dark room. White walls with an black floor and ceiling. They where filled with ancient tapestries barely showing anything. Directly to the north stood an big wooden chair in the shape of an Bulls head. On it sat an old man with long white hair to his shoulders and a short white beard. He was wearing dark red robes with the symbol of the black bull on it. He held a cane. The old man raised his head and he said “So you have finally arrived have you. About time. The great adviser of our Duke grazes us with his presence. Bah! I know your kind. You sit at court and pretend that your so great just because you serve our monarch but you have no real knowledge of this world. Know that I would not have given my throne as lord to you if I did not need to however there must always be an Dralan inside the castle” Then Lord Valinion VI started coughing and a woman came rushing in. Drimelda she was called. She was the maid and servant of Lord Valinion. An small, strong but elderly woman. She helped him to his chambers in the tower north east from the throne room. Lios was angry and shocked and offended. He did not even had the time to say anything. Lios went to his own room and there he saw a young girl of his same age preparing the room. “The room is ready My lord” She said. Lios saw her face. An pale but sweet face with brown eyes and blond hear. “What is your name”?”

“ Andra, I am the daughter of Drimelda.” For an hour Lios sat there talking with the young servant girl. He thought it fascinating. This young peasant girl was a delight to him. Another world far away from the royal court she was opening to him. He learned that Drimelda was cook as well. She with assistance from Andra did everything. He also learned that ever since his wife Arkindra died, the lord has been living as an hermit. Now he is dying and he hates it more then anything. But when Lios asked about what his uncle meant with, There must always be an Dralan inside Castle Dralan, the young girl got frightened and she left. Lios ate alone in room as his uncle stayed in bed. In the night he was sleeping in his bed when he heard sounds. Something was watching him. It came closer and closer and then it toughed his hands and then it whispered in his ears “Why have you abandoned me? Why have you abandoned me?” Then suddenly someone came running inside. It was Andra. “My lord, You need to come. It is your uncle. He is going to die any moment now. Lios followed the girl to the tower and there in the bed lay the old man shivering. He looked scared. Lios came closer and his uncle grabbed his hands. “Your the lord now, Lios. There must always be an Dralan in Castle Dralan. Beware of the consequences!” His uncle gave Lios his ring. A golden ring with a diamond in the shape of a bull was on it. It was the signet ring of the Lords of Castle Dralan. He also gave a golden necklace with an simple, silver and ancient key on it to Lios. “Uncle what do you mean with all this? What is going on?” Then when his uncle tried to answer he suddenly let go and he dropped back dead in his bed. Valinion VI Dralan Lord of Castle Dralan is dead.

A priest was standing next to the dead lord. “Our glorious Lord Valinion VI is dead. By the power vested in me, granted from the gods of Air, water, earth, fire ,light and dark I hereby proclaim you Lios I Dralan the new lord of Castle Drallan and its surrounding lands.” Lios went on knee as the necklace with key was put around his neck and the ring was put on his finger. When he rose, he was the new lord of the castle. Lios was feeling pity for his uncle. While he had not even managed to talk to him, he still felt sorry for the old man.

Four days later and two after the burial of Valinion VI in the family crypt.

Lios sat in the throne room. People of the region came to see and meet their new lord. They had no need for his help they only wanted to meet the new lord. At evening Lios went to the library to read and work. Lios always loved reading so this was the one place where he felt he could be at peace of all the madness and to do his work. Suddenly his candle went out and he saw an black haired woman in white walking outside the window. She looked up and she screamed ”Why have you abandoned me?” Then Lios awoke suddenly again. “This is madness! Lios screamed loud” Later he asked Drimelda, Andra and the guards about the woman but they where very cautious and they said that there is no such thing. That evening Lios walked through a corridor to the old ruined western part of the castle. Some old books where to be found their. Lios entered a small room which was still intact. And inside he saw the old books hidden in a corner. This was once a council chamber, Lios remarked. He took the books to the library but on the road back the chandelier fell from the sky. Barely missing Lios. “This place is haunted or mad!” Lios went to the library and he started reading the old books. These where history books about the castle and they where not that old as he thought! Lios read that the castle was build hundred fifty years ago by Valinion I. Back then the Dralans where kings over these lands. They called themselves Kings of the forest. The last King of the Forest Valinion IV bend the knee after his defeat at the hands of Duches Artynia and continued as lord in the newely build Dukedom until his death. Lios was his great grandson. Valinion V ruled after him and after him Valinion VI, his uncle. “Very interesting but it says nothing about what is going on here at this damned castle!” Lios asked Drimelda to come to the library. “You served my family for many years. What else can you tell me about my uncle and this plac?” The old lady sighed and then spoke “I was a young maiden at the age of Andra when I came to serve here but already there was an dark reputation here. Do not trouble the past. If you get involved in these old stories you will bring out evil. Now instead come with me my lord and eat something.” Lios laughed and followed her to a big chamber. The dinner room. He rarely used this room as he spend all his time in the library. Then when he was sitting at the head of this huge table his food was brought in. A silver plate with pork and vegetables. It was empty and lonely here so Lios bade Drimelda and Andra to come and eat with him. For hours they sat talking and laughing about everything. Lios told them the latest gossip from court, like what lady was cheating with who and who did what and so fort. But then he heard footsteps coming into the hall. It began slowly and then it became faster and faster and louder and then all candles went out. Then suddenly The huge chandelier above the table fell down with a huge clatter. Also they all now heard someone whispering “Why have you abandoned me? Why have you abandoned me? Why have you abandoned me?” Then all candles went on again and it looked like nothing had happened with even the chandelier still on the ceiling. Drimelda went frightened to her chambers but Andra stayed. “Only your uncle knew what the secret behind these things was. Lord Valinion never spoke of it though. I want to help if you want.”

Lios accepted the girls help and together they went to the library. For many hours they sat reading and looking through books. Lios was surprised that the girl could read. Apparently she learned it from his uncle so she could help him with his reading when he was sick.

After many hours of reading and looking through books, Andra screamed out in delight “I found something!” Lios went to sit next to the girl. She showed him an old bit of text in a corner. It was written by Andion Dralan. That was the second son of Valinion V. When Valinion VI Became lord, the youngest left to make his own mark on the world. That was the third son of Valinion V and the father of Lios. Andion had commited suicide years ago by hanging. Lios sees that Andra has found the old journal of Andion. Andion had looked into the mystery of the castle. Lios and Andra read that Andion too had been haunted by a woman.

“Last night I had an dream that she came in my room. The lady asked me why I had abandoned her. She asked it over and over again. Strange accidents are all around me since then. My brother Valinion does not believe me and my other brother Aronian did believe me but he is away. I looked in the old parts of the castle in the secret catacombs and I think I found something.”

The next thing written in the journal was also the last.

“She is everywhere. Asking why I abandoned her. I have not abandoned her. I am not the betrayer! She is taking over my mind. I am growing mad. I can not resist anymore. I should never have entered the Catacombs.. Why have I abandoned her? Why Did I abandon her? Why did I abandon her? I have failed her. There is no other thing left for me to do………….

Lios and Andra at once understood what was happening. “This is no mere ghost Andra. I have to know what this thing is. My uncles had both been involved. Even my father and now me. This has to stop” The girl looked at him and said ”You should not be involved in this. Lord Andion died because of this”

Lios could not be dissuaded and he went to the old western part of the castle. There he found an old black door going down a small dark passage way. With a torch, Lios went down the stairs. For ages it seemed he was walking down the stairs. Finally he came to another door. He opened it and inside he saw a huge and ancient banner of House Dralan, Red with an black Bulls head on it. In the front of it on a pedestal was a book. It was very old. Older then any book Lios had seen before. He opened it carefully and with his torch he was able to read the book. This book was the journal of Valinion IV himself! In it Valinion IV explained the history. Lios understood almost everything while reading the book .

“Once many years ago Valinion I was a knight who build a large castle and united the region under his rule. As King of the Forest it was his duty to protect the ancient spirits of the forest. But he cut down many trees for his military campaigns. Having betrayed the forest, he made the spirits angry. So his young second bride Moriana was cursed. For months she lay dying slowly. Valinion went mad of grief and he used ancient sorcery to help the girl. However she changed into a monster. Valinion I tricked Moriana into an dark room where he locked her up with magic. Never to be released. With only the silver key can she be freed however if the castle is without a Dralan then the magic will be lifted anyway and she will be free. So Valinion I betrayed and abandoned her. Ever since the house Dralan has been guarding the place against her evil.”

Lios only did not understand a few things. He had seen a ghost of a young girl and not a monster.

And why Is she haunting the family and how?

What he did understand was the key. The key on the necklace was the sole way of freeing Moriana.

The next night Lios dreamed about her. He saw an young slender woman dressed in white with pale skin and black hair. It was Moriana. She looked in the eyes of Lios. He saw that she looked sad and filled with grief. Lios felt suddenly so sad for this young woman. Treated as an monster and imprisoned for all eternity. “I will not abandon you like the others did.” Lios then awoke.

Now Lios no longer cared for the castle or his house. He knew why his uncle Andion committed suicide. He tried to save her be he could not and so he committed suicide as he abandoned here too.

Lios now only cared for helping the young woman. He walked through the dark castle. It was dark and quiet with the moon shining through the windows. Lios went back to the catacombs. There behind the book and banner was a huge door made of an kind of wood he had never seen before. There was an keyhole. A part of Lios resisted. He did not want to do this. But he felt like he was being forced and after a few second he gave in. Lios took out the key and unlocked the door. He heard a hard sound from the door. Then He pulled the door open. It barely moved but it opened after a while. Inside he saw at first nothing. It was a big dark room. But then inside Lios saw a coffin with chains all around it with a lock. He heard a whisper in his ears. “Open it. Open it please” Lios took the key and used it again on the lock of the coffin. The chains seemed suddenly to rust and disappear in a few seconds afterwards. Lios opened the coffin and there inside was a young woman sleeping. She was slender with black hair and red lips. Her skin was more paler then anything he had ever seen. She was wearing a white dress. Lios carried the girl out of the coffin and then she slowly opened her eyes. Lios had never seen a more beautiful creature. She looked at him and smiled and gently caressed the arms of Lios. She hugged him and then started to kiss him. Then she suddenly whispered in his ear “We will stay together for all time. You shall never abandon me”. Then She bit him in his neck. Lios pushed her away and then he felt two holes in his neck. He looked at Moriana more closely. Pale as death, Hair as black as the night. Lips red as blood. Eyes red and darker then any he had ever seen. And her mouth. He saw two fangs. She licked the blood off her lips as it dripped to stain her white dress. and smiled more vicious then Lios had ever seen. She is a monster Lios thought to himself. However before being able to do anything his sight became blurry. And then he fell to the ground and then nothing.

Lios suddenly awoke in his bed. He sighed of relief. Was that all a dream? He thought to himself in relief. Then he walked to the window but as he wanted to move the curtain to look outside he saw it was stuck. He could not open them. Then suddenly he felt someone hugging him. He looked behind and saw Moriana. “It was no dream!” Lios pushed her away as he walked to the door. He pushed it open and he ran through the corridors and found a guard. But before he could ask the guard for help Lios saw that the guard stood their looking empty minded. “Hypnosis?” Then he ran to the door leading outside and then sunlight came from a small gap in the door. When it touched his skin. He saw smoke coming from it. It was burning unlike anything he had ever seen. He ran away from the door and suddenly felt fangs inside his own mouth. Lios stood then without moving anymore. He finally understood the situation and all what had happened. He felt the holes in his neck. He was a monster too. A vampire. And she had hypnotized the people of the castle. And through her powers she appeared as a ghost perhaps. Then behind him Moriana stood. Lios turned around and he saw her smile deviously. Lios gave himself over completely. He kissed her with great passion. All his worries and concerns disappeared. He was fully under her influence and he did not care. Then she said “I told you that we would be together for all time! There is no escape.”

“And I would never abandon you dearest” Lios said.

The Next Night

Lios stood atop the castle walls. He looked out over the country side. Finally he could have a moment to self reflect and think. Free of her influence. But even now he felt her power. Lios remembered the last time he stood like this peacefully looking out over the countryside. That was ages ago in Lios Castle. The morning before he received the letter what doomed him to this fate. “I guess The Duke will have to look for a new advisor”. Lios realized what kind of monster Moriana was. But he also knew now that he was the same now. A vampire. And while he still had control despite her power over him he still knew that he had no choice now. He was forced to be with her forever. He may have failed to keep her imprisoned but he can still make sure she does not terrorize the surrounding lands. And Lios now truly loved her too. He did not know or it was her power making him think it or not but it did not matter. Moriana then came standing next to him. While holding hands they looked out over the countryside. I think I can survive this fate. Together forever.

For all time………
