Two things have happened that were not too great in my neck of the woods this week. The first one I found out about was in the newspaper. The body of a 60 year old woman clad only in a blue bathrobe was found in the heating unit at Tennyson Middle School. Noone would have known she was there if they had not had a problem with the heating unit. It was not working properly and they had to call the repairmen. I have no idea at this time if the lady was dead when someone placed her there or if she had dementia and wandered off. I think it maybe the first one, because I would think 60 years old would be a little young to have old age dementia.
My roommate works at Wal-mart. One of her ex-coworkers was killed by a 20 year old drunk driver either Friday night or Saturday morning. She had been to Grahams which is a little nightclub in Waco mainly for the teenage and college crowd. She had once worked in the shoe department of Wal-mart. The sad part of this is the woman was only 23 years old and leaves behind three daughters all five and younger. The car my roommate's co-worker was in had a designated driver. It makes me angry that people choose to drive while intoxicated. It is old news that drinking affects your thinking and motor skills. Plus, more than enough people have lost their lives by a drunk being on the road. Of course, as it is in most of these cases, the 20 year old drunk walked away without a scratch. I am suprised this offense is still considered manslaughter. You make the choice to drink and drive. In my opinion, that is at least first degree murder. The driver was also an underage drinker, so I am sure Grahams is going to get some kind of fine for serving him.
The job I have now is through a temp agency. I work for a company that allows each temp 2,000 hours and then we have to go on a three month lay-offf period. My lay-off starts on Feb 11th. In one way, I am glad. I am ready to do something different. In anotther way, I think I may miss the place in some ways. I have been there for a year now and I quess I am use to going there every week.
I could have tried for a permanent job there, but within the next year I will be moving out of state. I did not want to take a job and then leave a few months later. Plus, it really is not fair. Someone else may want the position and I would only be taking a job from someone who would stick with it. Also, I do not think working a job for three to four months will look good on my work history.
Tonight was the first episode of American Idol's new season. Like other seasons, I was amazed by the number of people who tryout who have no singing talent whatsoever. I am trying to figure out if these people are just delusional or if noone in their life was honest enough to tell them that they cannot sing. Either way I am quite embrassed for those who get on national TV and cannot carry a tune in a bucket.
