a precious moment

a gentle embrace holds me close, with a smiling face starring down at me. the woman who holds is in tears, but does not appear to be sad. the other face is that of a man's which holds both wonder and joy as he looks down at me. taking me gently from the woman he seems to fumble slightly as he tries to figure out how to hold me. the woman laughs quietly before showing him how to hold and support my head. he holds me gently as though i were made out of glass, all the while telling how happy he was i was finally here and who he was. i am to young to know what a father is, but i know instantly he is someone special to me, he holds out a finger. which i grab at, my tiny fingers barely wrapping around it. his finger is very big compared to my little hands. the woman laughs gently from the bed, when the man comments on my size before handing me back to her. the tears seem to have disappeared as the woman smiles happily down at me. she talked to me like the man had telling me she was my mother and how she'd always protect me. protect me from what i do not know, but she makes me fell sade and loved as she holds me close. the gentle beating of her heart lulling me to sleep.
