Standing around,

Not a single sound,

Watching you lie there,

Knowing it's not fair,

The worst, it seems, happens to the best,

The awful pain that's in your chest,

The tears hat trickle down your face,

Though your body never moves out of place,

Of the man you once were? There's hardly a trace.

Frozen, with morphine, numbing the pain,

Never to open your mouth again,

Watching your breathing,

Knowing you're leaving,

Tearing us apart,

The slowing of your heart,

Knowing that for us this is only the start.

You take your last breath,

Here it is, your death,

Kissing you goodbye,

We all begin to cry,

All of the time, we're asking "why?"

They say "well now at least he's not in pain"

But we'll never hear his voice again,

Twisted memories are all that remain,

Can any of us go through this again?

"With Christ, which is far better" they say,

Though we all needed you to stay,

The fifth of April, an awful day.

Father, Grandfather, Brother, We Love You,

So brave for all that you've been through.

Together with Nanny, finally back, finally together, reunited at last.
