I slowly opened my eyes to the rush of moist air with a touch of mold; blowing across my skin. Even though my eyes were open there seemed to be no difference to what I saw; both were absolute black.
At first I began to shake and scream uncontrollably, how had I gotten there, was I alone, where were the others?? Slowly, yet surely I regained my composure, just in time to hear a groan from not ten feet away from me.
"Ugh...where...WHAT THE HELL?!" Jake, my closest friend and partner screamed, I could hear distinct signs of him moving around trying to feel for something anything.
"Jake, Jake," I said trying to get him to hear me over his ear splitting screams, "JAKE!" He heard me that time.
"Rose is that you??" He patted the ground where he was at, I could hear faint splashes as his hand disturbed the water on the ground. Weird.
"Of course it's me Jake. Now shut up and listen. Do you still have an emergency flashlight on you?" I sat up and stared in the direction I assumed he was in.
"Yea, hang on." More shuffling, "Here it is...fuck!"
I felt a sinking feeling start to come over me, "What?"
"The batteries are dead...but I put new ones in before we left, how could this happen?" His voice choked on a sob, he wasn't the toughest marine in the core but he was the most loyal.
Ugh, great we were in a dark, wet, and possibly deadly place and we couldn't find any light.
