My Drum Corps Dedication

(2007 WGI World Championships Ceremony)

Dear mom and dad,

Its hard to describe how wonderful these summers have been.

Imagine, 28 to 35 different states we've traveled through every year, performing 40 shows every summer. All while making 134 new friends every new season. It would take to long to describe all the amazing places we've seen and the beautiful experiences we've had. Through hours of practice and rehearsal, the entire corps has actually come together as one unit.

"They're all here to see you! Rock the house ladies and gentelmen!"

You get hooked on it. Drum Corps is something that you get addicted to. To be able to do all of this in a summer you just.....pretty much just have to be crazy. It's like a bug it just bites you and you get it and you...you can't...you can't stop.

Anonymous Friends Thoughts on Their Own Drum Corps Experiences

"The show is, eleven and a half minutes of a blur. It goes bye...like in a heartbeat."

"It's like a roller coaster. A good roller coaster, you strap in. It takes off, and...you go through all these crazy motions, and, its kind of a big blur and at the end, you stop and you look around and your like, wow, that was cool."

"Its this feeling of euphoria becuase...everybodies diggin what you're doing...and your diggin it to. Its just this awesome feeling becuase, you know that you and the audience are one, and they understand what you're doing and they love what you're doing."

Memories

Looking back on it, your get to be like wow, I did that. I was apart of that, and thats something great, that you can hold onto, forever. Its not just about running around on a field and banging on a drum or throwing a toss. Its about the life skills that you learn.

Your not going to go through life being mediocer anymore. You know what it takes to be the best, and I'm not talking about, "winning," or, getting that, "great job." You know what it takes, to get to that next level in life.

To sum it all up...

One of the alumni who visited last week suggested that this entire experience could be summed up in three words. Dedication, Excellence, and Rewards...

...I have to agree with him. Through our daily dedication, we have achieved overall excellence. And the rewards? That we'll be share all of this with you on finals night in Denver. I really miss you guys, but this is a journy I never want to end.

Especially on show days.

Thank you DCI, for having a large hand in making me what/who I am today. I will miss you dearly.
