"she who is milk-white"
Modern vampire literature often refers to our kind as "living statues" An allusion to Galatea in modern English has become a metaphor for a statue that has come to life.
A very long time ago in ancient Greece, there was a sculptor named Pygmalion who was commissioned by a village leader to create a statue of a woman so that he may feast his eyes upon beauty always. The sculptor began his work, but a problem arose. The ivory statue he created was truly the perfect woman, she could not be more beautiful. Pygmalion became enamored with his creation, it slowly became obsession. In answer to his prayers, the goddess Aphrodite brought Galatea to life so that they could be together always.
HOWEVER, even creations by the gods are merely mortal. One day, Galatea was out late one night and came across a man kneeling by the side of the road covered by a cloak. Galatea's compassionate heart reached out to the suffering man and she gracefully came to his side. This was no man, and he was surely not suffering. This was a vampire who instantly was taken by the beauty of Galatea's exquisitely sculpted face. He wanted her to keep. Thus the end of her mortal life.
I, Galatea, live on and roam the earth in search of the Pygmalion that was lost so many years ago. My heart bleeds for the love lost, and I will find it again taking victims as I go.
