Detective Grey finds a man who grew up with the deceased, a guy apparently moving illegal drugs for a man named Jaeker...At the scene of a later homicide, he finds a head in the refrigerator with “TALKS TOO MUCH” scrawled in blood on the back, instantly recognizing the witness, Grey decides that Jaeker is at the top of his list of suspects.

Grey quickly finds his squad destroyed when Jaeker orders goblin-like creatures to kill them. He himself gets tackled just as a man appears, reaching into Grey’s chest without breaking the skin, causing him to black out.

David Grey wakes in a hospital to find that he can see through everyone...no one can hear him...except for Laurel. She says he is in the place in-between. She is to be his guide until they kill Jaeker...or until he turns, in which case she’ll kill him instead.
