REQUIEM FOR A VAMPIRE begins with two beautiful women in clown costumes fleeing an unknown assailant in a car on a country road. After a shootout, and a brush with premature burial, the girls seek shelter in a spooky castle. After they share an erotic encounter, the girls discover they are not alone in the castle. It turns out that it is populated by the disciples of the last in a long bloodline of vampires who needs a couple of virgins to continue his bloodline.
Jean Rollin's 1971 film is a stunning, surreal exploitation film and one of his most notable. Though some unconvincing vampire teeth and bats may evoke laughter, the film still has a strange and eerie power (and a considerable amount of sex and nudity). With little dialogue, this unusual work often feels like a twisted silent horror.
From French cult sex-horror auteur Jean Rollin comes this odd vampire fairy tale. Considered his most personal work and walking the very thin tightrope between art and exploitation, it combines sex and brutal violence with almost childlike scenes of romantic innocence. Two girls find themselves seeking shelter in the mansion of a vampire. Soon they are lowered into a torture pit by the vampire's crazed slaves and offered as bait to catch unsuspecting young men. A puzzling gem for the adventurous horror fan.
