Operating on the principle that people traveling at tremendously high speeds age much more slowly than those who aren't, a spaceship capable of light speed is launched from Earth with a crew to investigate the stars. But something goes wrong and the ship doesn't decelerate, in fact, it continues to accelerate at a constant rate until the universe outside the ship contracts and is "reborn" in a new Big Bang. When the ship finally slows down, the crew is left to try and start over on a very Earth-like planet in this newly created universe.
