If intelligent alien life were to be discovered, what impact would this have on organized religion ?...
It's a question that has been discussed by philosophers, scientists and free thinkers for years. Would there be a fundamental change in faith following such a discovery ? Would the aliens themselves have their own religion and if so, how would it fit in with our own religion or way of life?
I'm addressing Three (3) things here:
Aliens
Faith....since it is discussed in another thread and it bears a little further discovery for some
Religion...including your way of life, Vampiric, Lycan, Pagan etc....
I think that people would probably see them as something evil if they didn't look the same as us. Most religious things now a days shun what they don't understand, which is not just them but most the world. Some people would probably just ignore that they even existed in the belief that it is some kinda test from god. I think reactions though could probably be anything, not just the things I say.
people always fear what they don't understand, and I'd not be surprised if there wasn't some kind of military response.
But if intelligent alien life were to be discovered, what impact would this have on organized religion ?...
What would be the theory about Jesus and "God" now...where would the concept of "Angels" be now in the lives of millions? And what of the Vatican and the new stance it has taken on Alien life...do they really believe that they could get these beings to "convert" to a religion that is Earth based?
Intelligent alien life, wouldn't have anything to do with the pathetic species of this planet.
Having travelled the world twice most folks have real doubts about their old religions.
Most have watched western films discussing such issues, they will have 3 months of shock , then they will adapt and get over it.
A great example is seeing the stars of "Top Gear" arrive in Syria, rather than being unknown westerners in a hubbly bubbly bar they were welcomed with open arms.
The internet has led led to Muslim women jet ski-ing, the Chinese upper class motor bike gangs and much much more.
I know several people who have travelled the globe for 20 yrs and have good friends in Kaz, Turkmen, Indonesia, Thailand, China....We aint that different !
People are very adaptable, they just need a few weeks a few "smokes" and a few beers.
Christianity and Catholocism would probably collapse seen as the bible states that there is no other intelligent life-forms other than human beings..
And where exactly in the Bible does it say that? Reference please?
I'm Christian and I accept the possibility of alien life. When it comes to religion I think there are a thousand different ways it could go, with each person thinking something different. I do not think it will collapse however. It will adjust.
I believe that the Bible is a guidebook. It tells us the things we NEED to know. It does not tell us everything there IS to know.
~Darken
The Vatican has now given the all-clear for Catholics to believe in life beyond our planet.
So do Aliens have to be Christians as well?
Is there an Alien heaven?
Maybe Mary Doria Russell's "The Sparrow", about Jesuits making first contact with extraterrestrial intelligences, was more prophetic than anyone realized.
How true indeed Darken...the bible only allows for what you "need" to know and not what there "is" to know...when you begin studying the books purposely cut in the editing room of King James' studio in creating the "lay-man's" guide to Heaven...it was done for the sole reason of limiting the knowledge of the general populace....because those "lost" books, although archaically worded, cover the universal science theories floating around today as "new."
Nothing new under the sun exists though does it, neither does the proponent of alien life. Ancient structures and carvings all over the world indicate sightings and in some literature, points to actual interaction in the past.
Religion is a tool of the Government in my opinion...put in place to beat self-defeating idealism and to confuse humility with humiliation, oppression comes in all forms. The true measure of Faith is not just to look towards the Creator for all things but also to believe in the self to accomplish the work needed and manifest all things whatsoever comes from the hearts of our varied humanity, irregardless of religion.
What would happen if we were visited once more, openly and interacted, by aliens and it's impact on religion? I'd wager a bet the world governments would create a religion based on worshiping the aliens by the masses while in the background of such fixations, run their own espionage to harness and take control of alien technologies.
History does has it's habit of repeating itself. One only needs to look back at the "One World Order" of Hitler who organized the pure religion of his own worship with the youth of Germany. People in general can be well trained and inclined to even hurt those they love and call family...when they are made desperate enough.
