You know what pisses me off...? The fact that Hollywood can take somethng so serious and turn it into a joke or a lie. Sheesh what a bunch of losers, they really need to get some background information before they make stupid comments.

Abracadabra is a magickal invocation that is now associated chiefly with stage conjurors and pantomime wtiches but has in fact a much longer history as a Qabalahistic (medevil spelling) or Kabbalah (purely Jewish version). First mentioned in the writtings of the Gnostic physician Quintus Serenus Scammonicus in the second centry BC, abracadabra comprises the abbreviated forms of the Hebrew words Ab (father), Ben (son), and Ruach A Cadsch (Holy Spirit), through an alternative derivation relates the word to Abraxas, a god with snakes for feet who was worshipped in Alexandria in pre-christian times.
The charm was said to have special powers against fevers toothaches and other medical ailments as well as to provide protection against bad luck.

Acording to the thinking behind the charm, the evil forces generating the illnesses would decrease as the magickal word grew shorter and shorter. After the charm proved itself effective after a nine day wait the wearer was expected to remove the parchment containing the word and throw it backwards into an eastern-flowing stream before the sunrise to banish the ailments far away.
