How many here can sing, have taken voice lessons, or are into acting, or have taken drama class?
I have a lot of talent in both, but I haven't taken lessons in either, but I'm trying to figure out what I should do first. Join a drama class, or simply go to a local theatre and try-out?
Well... I love singing, I would need a few lessons in that though, my voice could get a lot better...
And acting... I have tired that, and I absolutely love it...
Just go with your feeling and do whatever makes you happy... really, it's only you who can tell what to do...
I have a degree in sound/theatre....I may not be able to sing, but I can make you sound like a god!!
Everyone I sing for tells me I am almost good as Christine from Phantom of the Opera. My nickname is "Adorable Little Daae". I can almost hit all the notes that Christine does, and all the notes the Phantom hits. I just need to work up to the octive Christine is in in the vocalization in "Phantom of the Opera".
Oh my your voice must be something special... How come you're not starring in the movie instead of Emmy? :D
I have been singing my whole life. I've had professional voice lessons and been in many competitions, both as a solo artist and as part of a group. At 14 I sang in a group with the Kansas City Symphony. I had the lead role in a hometown production of Our Town, courtesy of Theatre for Young America. As a teen and pre-teen I was also in several other plays/musicals.
well, wen i was younger i did drama for about 5 years and right now at my school, i am in concert choir (main choir class), junior octet, junior madrigals, and i am in the toop showchoir (singing and danceing). so i have been told that i am a very good singer. lol. nvr really cared for the drama tho. it was just somethin to do at the time. but i was pretty good at it for wat i remember. i have not taken voice lessons yet but im gettin an instructor for that soon
I used to go to a drama club when I was 9, where we used to recieve some basic training. Thats also when I started having keyboard lessons.
I then joined C'est Tous Shakespeare Theatre Company, where I has singing, dancing, yoga, acting, and theatre history seminars for four years, I was also in a number of productions with them, and also sung and acted in several caberet performances. By that point, I was also teaching younger children and helping direct young actors for shows that where performed on a weekly basis.
I have also taken 2 LAMDA (London Academy Of Music And Drama) exams, and I do recommend those when you have had some training, as its a great thing to have behind you if plan on having a career in acting.
I left to go to Lancaster Univeristy, where I am now doing a degree in Theatre Studies, and majoring in Devising, Performance Composition and Playwrighting History this year, and I am currently working with Carrbas Theatre Company, who I should be performing with next year. I am also currently in the early stages of writing, casting and directing my film mini-project, which will hpefully be completed by next year.
My advice to you is to find a local theatre roup and audition for them, and try to find lessons at the same time, as especially for singing and Shakesperean acting thy are amazingly valuable for breathing, stage presence, spatial awareness and eloqution.
Its a very hard work, but very rewarding job, but I stress that its SO MUCH HARD WORK... in terms of the determination adn motivation you need to do it everyday. My advice is that you have to be toally dedicated in order to get anything out of it.
If you would like to have a chat about this, then feel free to message me... and GOOD LUCK!
Join up with a local theater group while taking professional lessons at the same time. I did not take singing lessons, and was held back because of it.
I love singing and acting (although prefer singing). I haven't taken many classes in either though, so that's held me back a lot (that and I get a bit of stage fright) So I recommend taking lessons and joining a local theatre group. That way you can get the experience AND the instruction. Break a leg!
well its been said practice makes perfect. class will certainly allow you to perfect the talents in which you already posess
I've been trying to find people around here who give acting and singing lessons, but I haven't found much (small area). I live twenty minutes away from Binghamton, New York. And about three or four hours away from NYC.
I do know of a theatre group about ten minutes away from me.
