A friend told me that when you have a head ache a Psi Vamp is trying to feed on you. She advised me to visualise a brick wall in order to block the Psi Vamp's efforts.
Well, I had a migraine and I visualised a brick wall. I imagined the rough fell of the bricks and the smell of brick dust, the whole she bang, and the head ache lessened as long as I maintained the visual.
I wonder, however, if this might not be because different parts of the brain are active during such visualisations, and there for are recieving more of the blood supply. That would in effect lessen the pain of the head ache I believe.
There was actually a case I learend about in a long ago psychology class in which sub jects connected to a bio feed back machine were able to stop migraines by directing more blood to their fingers.
Food for thought any way. Pardon the pun.
Eviladam I know who it was who made that suggestion to you because i was the one who suggested it to her when she was having a major headache/migraine.hehe
Interesting premise for a topic though...The mind is a wonderful outlet. So vast and holds and retains so much memory .It is a vital organ,We can control alot with our minds we just need to learn how ..If you zone, focus or meditate and maintain balance within your brain you can do marvelous wonderful things .Shame most humans only end up in most cases using maybe 10% of what they have ..but if you do feel a migraine or headache no matter what the reason is ,envisioning a brick wall or a blackhole is a good trick cause your focusing on an image and not the pain :)
Well what ever the case is it's a wonderfull technique that did wonders for my head as long as I was visualizing the brick wall. I'm glad I learned it.
In my experience with psi vamps , there was a drained feeling vs a migrain. I had an ex or two that fell into the psi vamp category. For those sheilding was not enough, I literally had to cut the ties they had into me and my energy. Some psi vamps do not realize what they are doing, they just feel the need to be close to people, in conversation or literal closeness. I habve helped several of them find "safe" ways to feed their need without injuruing anyone else.
As for the migrain rememdy, I agree almost anything that can hold your attention can help ease the pain, and biofeedback, specifically working on vaso constriction of the blood vessels in your head, can really help ease the pain.
... I imagine the whole [headache=psy-vampyr attack] concept is vague superstition. Its... kinda medieval if you think about it.
Besides,... I used to have alot of self-induced headaches (mind strains) from deep brooding. I seriously doubt everytime I deeply analyze something that my emission of mind waves attract vampyres. ... Otherwise, it would defeat the purpose of a headache being the strain of brain use.
Pyronide I was actually trying to discuss whether the act of visualization and there by the lessening of pain worked because of physiological changes in the brain rather than whether head aches are caused by Psycic vampires.
Sorry to say this but to me all of it sounds more like superstition than anyother.
I do hope if those migraines continue you'll seek the assistance of a physician. All I'll say.

actually it's somewhat comon knowledge that focussing on other parts of the brain will lessen strain .....it's like focussing deeply on some task after stubbing your toe....
the brain is tricked into ignoring the other area that is in pain....
I could get a whole lot more technical about it....but then I would have to look up sources and whatnot....and I'm a lazy bitch
I think the whole thing about a migrane being brought on from a psi attack is a little superstitious.
Have you ever told someone that your arm hurts or something, and they hit you and you only focus on where they hit you and you (if even for a second) forget about your arm?
interesting topic. i read a book about blocking psi vampires. even though myself I am one of them. So far people around me dont have no clue about me being one or having the knowledge of blocking me because I only take little energy. Not enough to give the victim a mindgrain/headache. But the person wont even know why they would have the mindgrain/headache unless it was from something else like the sunlight or lightbulbs in a building is giving them one or hell the kids around them. so either way u can block them by thinking about a wall or try taking some asprin (sp?) as i always say. (but sometimes the asprin doesnt work you can always find another way to block the psi vamps.)
Adam:
Whether you're talking about a psi-vamp-type "attack" or just a simple headache, such a technique is bound to be effective to a degree.
I think the biofeedback phenomenon is impressive. If you have the cash, you can actually get software and hardware to hook to your PC to learn to control your brain. Other methods of entrainment can be sought, such as binaural beat frequencies. This can be explored with nothing more than a pair of headphones and a simple computer program. (Do a search on "Brain Wave Generator" or "BWGen" and you'll find a free trial version, as well as lots of info.
In short, the brain is the most complex and amazing machine known to man. Who knows what can be done by utilizing aspects of the brain that normally are dormant. Trying to find my own personal answers to such a question is one of my life goals. Thanks for the thread.
This all sounds a little like the saying that if you're alone and suddenly feel 'cold' that evil is near. Superstitious, at best. I feel it has little to do with a 'drain'.

a brick wall??? ok umm i think thats kinda like supersticiousi mean you can get a miagrane from anything psi vamps just dont cause them
The brick wall also sounds sort of like a rip off of the tecnique used in 'The Village of the Damned' when Christopher Reeve needs to block out the telepaths.

Again I did not start this thread to discuss psi vampires but a possible medical cause of why the shielding technique works.
Sheilding is a more a spiritual technique based on energy work. The only medicine that may have any form of coincidence with such practices is Oriental. There is no 'medical' explanation by western standards.

alright well try this bit of psychic self defense if you are feeling drained and have a headache close your eyes and visualise your personal energy filed if you can see and feel the tentacle of energy from soem one else tugg on it that will scare the crap out of most vamps and is more proactive than a wall
I do agree that there is a medical pretense for visualization execises lessening pain, however. This has been recognized for quite some time as a result of quite a few published experiments. Google should give you something.

I will have to try this during my next headache.
I wonder if it would work with other pains as well. Such as a back ache.
Usually I attempt to meditate but some times that just isn't possible.
I know of a few times i could be sitting and talking with someone online and all of a sudden my head would feel a little funny, like more pressure and i often thought perhaps this person is trying to "read" me, and i'm not saying it isn't possible but perhaps not always the answer.
I hardly get headaches but using visualization is key to many things.

It is in my opinion that when you have a headache it doesnt always mean you are having a psy attack, perhaps some of the time but not all the time. There are many things that can cause a headache all the way down to sinuses. However yes focusing your energies on something else does help ease the pain.... This is why when a woman is in labor they tell her to find a focal point. When you do this you are taking your mind off of the pain and placing it on something else. Kind of a mind over matter kind of thing. As I have said in all my posts and will say again, this is just my opinion and by no means do I believe that it makes me right. lol.
Never underestimate the power of the mind. I give my body all sorts of problems through my mental state. Stress is really a big trigger.
So I suppose that if I can beat myself with the metaphorical stick with made of stress then you can stigmatize some otherwise dormant area of the brain (psi vampires not with standing). The brick wall may have something to do with it, or maybe it's just the fact that you were consentrating on this. The look, the smell, the feel of it... I don't really know, but as I said before; Don't underestimate the power of the mind.
makes the mind sound much like a computer. get your mind norton's now!
ahh but the mind is kind of like a computer... lol. just one hell of a lot more complicated ... lol
I've discovered that biofeedback works for a lot of things - but not a serious migraine! Believe me, I've tried!
I also do believe some headaches are related to psy vamp activity. If your not sure, perhaps you could set up your own little experiment: when you have a headache, imagine drawing energy into yourself instead of visualizing a wall! I think visualizing a wall would logically work only while you are in the process of being drained by a psy vamp, not afterward when you have a hole in your energy flow!
It's just a theory, mind you... I could be mistaken.
i dont believe that a headache is a common side effect of being drained but i suppose that different people react differently and it is possible, or in circumstances of extreme drainage.
it can however be a side-effect of many other psi activities including overtaxing of one's own abilities or gifts, causing a backlash
visualization is one of the simplest ways of contorling one's own psi abilities, however it can also be one of the most unreliable. nothing should substitute for a solid background in sheilding including making sure you knwo how to ground yourself and where to find your own center.
also if you are having frequent/severe headaches you really SHOULD consult a physician. even if this technique seems to work for you to alleviate the pain, it may only be covering or distracting from a more serious problme. never underestimate the fact that the miond is a powerful tool within the body and if you believe strongly enough that something will work. it probably will, no matter what the underlying cause
its like that old saying "mind over matter"
you can control the impulses of your brain that effect pain, pleasure..feelings in general if you just work at it
I suffer from migraines and take care of them as prescribed from the doctor... however as to psi vamps, like a woman I used to know...I and others would feel weak and tired, so we would visualize a wall socket with a plug and simply pull the plug and then put it in 'her socket' and reverse the situation...worked every time.
You notice how many people here SUFFER from psi-vampire attacks?
...
I AM a psi-vampire...
If anything, instead of learning how to block it out...
how about trying to teach the pv how to NOT DO IT? It's a bit frustating to me hearing everybody blame their headaches on psychic vampires...
Half or more of those headaches arent from psychic vampires-- and the other one.. maybe, if you also feel week and weary.
... Gee, I wish I knew how to not suck energy from others.. I'm way to darn empathetic (which helps with the "sucking" of the energyness..) Any suggestions on how to cure being a psychic vampire?
Is this still open? Well I'm closing it. I love having a Pm.
