I hope this sad and terrible event does not become a witch hunt.
Rampager's 'vampire' diary.
Thursday, September 14, 2006.
The online jounal of the lone gunman who went on a shooting rampage at a Canadian college yesterday has been unearthed. It contains images of 25-year-old Kimveer Gill holding a rifle and the words, 'Life is like a video game, you gotta die sometime.'
Gill, who is believed to be the man who shot a young woman to death and wounded 19 other people, was the author of an online diary posted at the website vampirefreaks.com.
According to CBC News, he reportedly arrived at Dawson College dressed entirely in black, wearing a trench coat and carrying an automatic gun when he opened fire.
Of the 19 people injured, at least six were in critical condition this morning. Montreal police said the victims ranged in age from 17 to 48.
Police today identified the dead student as Anastasia De Souza, an 18-year-old woman from Montreal.
In his profile on vampirefreaks.com, a website devoted to Goths, Gill wrote of himself: ''You will come to know him as Trench,' and also described himself as 'not a people person.'
He says: 'Work sucks … School sucks … Life sucks … What else can I say?' he wrote. 'Metal and Goth kick ass. Life is like a video game, you gotta die sometime.'
A photo gallery accompanying the profile includes pictures of Gill holding a Beretta CX4 Storm semi-automatic rifle.
In the last seven photos, he is wearing a black trench coat and holding the rifle. The caption below the last photo reads, 'Ready for Action.'
Dawson College, where the shooting occurred, is closed until Monday.
About 10,000 students attend the junior college.
THE DIARY.
The journal, written under the name fatality666 at the site vampirefreaks.com, looks chilling in retrospect. However, there is actually very little to distinguish it from the journals of thousands of others, none of whom are likely to kill people – it lists his favourite movies, bands, and video games, and is filled with the 'what X are you?' quizzes that are extremely popular in online journal communities.
Gill begins his profile on the site by writing about himself in the third person:
Work sucks... School sucks... Life sucks... Life is like a video game, you gotta die sometime
'His name is Kimveer. You will come to know him as Trench. He is male. He is 25 years of age. He lives in Quebec. He finds that it is an O.K place to live. He is not a people person. He has met a handfull [sic] of people in his life who are decent. But he finds the vast majority to be worthless, no good, kniving, betraying, lieing [sic], deceptive, motherf***ers.'
He then writes in big red letters: 'Work sucks..........School sucks..........Life sucks..........What else can I say. Metal and Goth kick ass.
'Life is like a video game, you gotta die sometime.'
The first quiz is the 'How f***ed up are you?' quiz, on which Gill is rated as 'WAIT THERE. We're coming to get you now. We've called the guys in white coats to come and get you, so don't commit a mass murder before they come or you'll find you'll be in there longer.'
If he was a Nirvana song, he would be You Know You're Right.
And the 'How will you die?' quiz produced the result: 'You scored as Suicide. Your death will be suicide. What more can I say? Fact: Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.'
He lists as among his favourite movies V For Vendetta, Heat, Edward Scissorhands, House of Wax and the final two Lord of the Rings movies (but not The Fellowship of the Ring). He also likes the Adam Sandler movie Little Nicky, about which he says 'I usually don't like comedys, but this movie f***ing rocks.'
One of his favourite video games is listed as 'Super Columbine Massacre RPG'. His favourite TV show was The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.
His final journal entry was written on the morning of September 13 - just hours before he went on the rampage. It doesn't give any hint of what he was about to do.
Instead, it reads: 'Whiskey in the morning, mmmmmm, mmmmmmmmm, good !! :)
'P.S. When i call people "niggah's" in my journals......it doesn't have anything to do with their skin color. I call white people niggahs too, it's just fun.
'It's all dave chappelle's fault, ever since i started watching the chappelle show, i can't stop calling people niggahs :('
It seems likely that the content of the website will lead once again to calls for the banning of violent video games, along with goth and metal music, trenchcoats, and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.
Sigh alass we really have no control over what people do. This incident was a tarrable thing and will only add to the fear people seem to cary og goths and Vampires and yes perhaps witches. I can only say that time will tell and life will continue.
There will always be someone would do the most horrific things, because of what they saw or heard. It will never be blamed on the person who did the crime. It will always be due to outside forces.
That is a terrible thing that happened yet it cannot be blamed on others for their actions who knows what goes on in the minds of others. It is ashame that it happened...
I think it also serves as a reminder that so many of us talk to people on here build friendships and can't always know what's under the surface. I am no means saying we should live life in a bubble but caution should always be applied.

Exactly... one rotten apple can spoil... but the mentally unbalanced exist in every demographic.
...i hate the way the media jumps on the finger-pointing bandwagon: "he was GOTH!!!" or "he was a VAMPIRE!" OMG! the sky is falling! the sky is falling! consequently, anyone wearing black is viewed as a threat and the understanding is lost altogether...gives it all a bad name. i remember after columbine, no one could wear a black trenchcoat without being profiled. sad, that. i bet vampirefreaks.com is really freaking out now. :(
There is little doubt that some people will scream that goth/occult type websites or beliefs caused this terrible event. This type event has happened before and will do so again, unfortunately. There will be finger pointing for a time then another topic will grab the attention of these "people that know the best for us" and things will quiten back down.
It is sad that our culture (goth/metal/etc) is so easily used as a scapegoat. I understand the idea of people fearing that which they do not understand but I don't understand consistantly happy people who walk around in bright green and blue polo shirts.. but when I hear about a suave murderer who was CEO of a company I don't think .. well gee all preppy people must be crazy, all that happiness is simply an act. In time this incident will surely fade into the past but the stigma attached to the goth culture will in all likelyhood not.
Once again, we have society trying to blame someones elses issues on a subculture they dislike.
Goths and vampires? "oh my god! they all worship the devil. it is all their fault.....we need to get rid of them and put a stop to the madness!"
While the true madness is that instead of putting the crime at the feet of the person who did it, they are going to blame it on people just because they refuse to adhere to soceity deems as "normal".
