I have heard that vampires and shades are alike is this true or are they different?

I know a few vamps that will be wearing shades on their heads later this month. :)

So if your vampire is physical, I'll say no to your question.

according to all the references I can find, vampires and shades are not even remotely the same.

vampires have a physical body, and a shade is virtuely a specter of non corporeal form.

According to various cultures,vampires were ghosts or shades.
In ancient Rome,they were the same,such as the Lare or Lar.
In other cultural lore,vampires were ghosts or demons that took on the form of a newly deceased person in order to prey on the living.
But,other than that,it seems that ghost & shade is used alternately,whereas vampire & shade do not appear to be associated.
Dante used "shade" & "metamorphosis" alternately.
But,that's all that I can find at the present time.

well there is something that i didn't know about vampires i appreciate this and i will continue this poll as long as the sire allows it.

Hmmmm... so i'm wondering if Vampires ever morph into a form that could be considered "shade type"?

well as one person shade they can morph in to a shade but they still can change back into the physical being while shades can not be anything else than a shade.

i have to agree that in some cultures they are seen as one in the same. i have read some stories where vamps are depicted as shades

Everything I have ever read, I have never read where they were the same.

Where did you come up with even the possibility that they are the same? I mean like what book or..where ever.

I like Shades on many Video Games, Usually a bloody mess with no actual physical body. Tend to be quite annoying. I do believe generally capable of causing no actual harm.

I have read alot and yet to see where they are simular in any sense yet that is just based on any info that I have read.

well MrD, I learn something new everyday on this site. I lov that. is there anyway I could be told where you got your information from? I would be very interested in reading it. I am always up to learn new things, especially about vampires.

Well shades are dead and most of us aren't :) Shades can be anywhere from somewhat to very vampiric in nature though.

I've always thought a shade to be merely a disembodied spirit. Now, there are spirits who are vampiric in nature, such as the infamous Leanan Sidhe to name one, but that doesn't make them a vampire per se.

But there are many species of the mythological vampire, so it's possible there's one in the legends someplace.

However, it must be noted that us real vampires are flesh and blood mortals...

Anything that I have ever read about shades and vampires, leads me to believe that the two are very different.
