I don't know alot about witches and anything I do know has been learned from other's conversation's.

I do know that long ago Women believed to be witches were burned at the stake and some were hung.

Witchcraft was considered to be a crime punishable by execution. I have read and gotten different counts on how many women actually were executed, anywhere from 2 million to 12 million. I haven't done extensive research on this subject. However the point is not the number really but the intent itself to wipe out and anialate a group of people. A true Holocaust.

My question is what happen? When did the burning stop and why?

Thank you Khayman....I will do that. I would like to hear from those on VR who practice this path.. It's allways so much more interesting to hear from people who actually have something to do with the subject. They seem so much more informed. Websites are great only come without character.

The "Googled" reference above was re: the Salem Witch Trials, which was an extremely limited and isolated event.

What it sounds like you are trying to research are what were called "The Burning Times" during which thousands of, primarily, women were tortured, mutilated, and murdered.

And why? The infamous, despicably misogynist Malleau Maleficarum, printed in 1486 CE, detailed precisely why women were targeted:

"All witchcraft comes from carnal lust, which is in women insatiable" (Malleus Maleficarum, Question VI; 1484CE)

There are thousands of good website online that discuss this fully. One of these would seem to be This One.

Hope this helps.

Thank you Upir that is exactly what I'm looking for. I will read it. I have always been interested in witchcraft, something I know my grandmother did. I was very young so I don't know alot but I do remember some things and just the thought of her being hurt in anyway is frightening. I also read that you could be accused simply out of hate or jealousy and reasons other than witchcraft, and that in many cases this was one of the reasons so many were executed.
