what is everyones views on this subject?
do you believe it is possible by holding an object you will feel it's historical pressence of pas occurences?
-------------
Psychometry is a psychic ability in which a person can sense or "read" the history of an object by touching it. Such a person can receive impressions from an object by holding it in his/her hands or, perhaps, touching it to the forehead. Such impressions can be perceived as images, sounds, smells, tastes - even emotions.
Psychometry is a form of scrying - a psychic way of "seeing" something that is not ordinarily seeable. Some people can scry using a crystal ball, black glass or even the surface of water. With psychometry, this extraordinary vision is available through touch.
For example, a person who has psychometric abilities - a psychometrist - can hold an antiqueglove and be able to tell something about the history of that glove, about the person who owned it, about the experiences that person had while in the possession of that glove. The psychic may be able to sense what the person was like, what they did and even how they died. Perhaps most important, the psychic can sense how the person felt - the emotions of the person at a particular time. Emotions especially, it seems, are most strongly "recorded" in the object.
The psychic may not be able to do this with all objects at all times and, as with all psychic abilities, accuracy can vary, but the ability is available to the psychic.
A Brief History
"Psychometry" as a term was coined by Joseph R. Buchanan in 1842 (from the Greek words psyche, meaning "soul," and metron, meaning "measure.") Buchanan, an American professor of physiology, was one of the first people to experiment with psychometry. Using his students as subjects, he placed various drugs in glass vials, and then asked the students to identify the drugs merely by holding the vials. Their success rate was more than chance, and he published the results in his book, Journal of Man. To explain the phenomenon, Buchanan theorized that all objects have "souls" that retain a memory.
Intrigued and inspired by Buchanan's work, American professor of geology William F. Denton conducted experiments to see if psychometry would work with his geological specimens. In 1854, he enlisted the help of his sister, Ann Denton Cridge. The professor wrapped his specimens in cloth so Ann could not see even what type they were. She then placed the wrapped package to her forehead and was able to accurately describe the specimens through vivid mental images she was receiving.
From 1919 to 1922, Gustav Pagenstecher, a German doctor and psychical researcher, discovered psychometric abilities in one of his patients, Maria Reyes de Zierold. While holding an object, Maria could place herself in a trance and be able to state facts about the object's past and present, describing sights, sounds, smells and other feelings about the object's "experience" in the world. Pagenstecher's theory was that a psychometrist could tune in to the experiential "vibrations" condensed in the object.

Yes, I have 'done' psychometry.
The first time was when I held an ashtray made from some kind of metal.
I 'saw' in my minds eye a picture of the English country side, so peaceful, down to the village green.
I 'felt' love and loss, it was very powerful and shocked me as I thought at that time it was just all nonsense lol
I was told later, that the metal used to fashion the ashtray was made from the body of a world war 2 aircraft that had crashed before landing safely home.
Psychometry is definitely a valid ability which many people possess to one extent or another. I know people who have this ability and I personally have a touch of it myself. Not a whole heap, but enough to get a general sensation of a person. It's basically another form of divination where instead of using tools like Tarot cards etc to focus your abilities, you use personal objects instead and "read" the emanations which have been imprinted in them. Very powerful psychometrists can "read" the creation of objects as well as more recent events.
I know someone who is really good at it, but half my family is in the business so I know a lot of people. It's kind of rare to have it well developed enough to use it regularily professionally without "faking it" a lot of the time, so it is hard to develope by professionals.
I actually have heard of this, I have heard of people being able to touch the walls of certain buildings and see/experience every thing that has happened within that building, I am not sure if I believe in this, but it certainly would be a unique gift to have.
Is there a difference between the skills of an empath and the skills of a psychometric? If the item has been ritually cleansed or even wiped over with a cloth can it's message be lost?
I have heard of psychometry before, but have yet to meet someone who practices it.
I believe it's possible to hold an object and be able to visual the object's past. I think it's a rare trait to have however.
Psychometry is a lovely skill to develop into something useful. For me I do have this and it came in handy when I worked in a thrift store sorting objects and clothes to find extra money in the pockets.
Well I must say, it seems as through its a fairly common thing for this crowd. I am interested to read more about who exeriences what with their gifts.
Uzziel asks a good question.
I have never handled an object which has been cleansed, so have no idea.
One thing though this 'gift' is one which can be learnt if a person is interested.
Sometimes I feel that the consensus is that people with 'gifts' are special in some way.
I do not believe that is so at all lol
Uzziel,
When an item is subjected to a cleansing then there are few types of things that can happen.
1) Only the negative currents are to be cleansed out of the signature of the item
2) only the positive currents are to be cleansed out of the signature of the item
3) the item itself is stripped of all things ever connecting it to anything else, including memories, emotional impressions, and various other things that would potentially disrupt the new flow of energy.
For my own use with this, and psychometry I apply the third kind when I am beginning work with human skulls. As the skull is to just be a focus, i seek to purge it of all psychic connection to the living host it once supported.
Caravall,
I very much agree, the "gifts" that people can learn are part of the psychic arts. When one makes use of the basics then it becomes just another skill one has learned, like driving a car, or reading, or riding a bike or a horse.
When working with the psychic arts or any spiritual discipline the fact does remain, one is alone in doing such, because it takes time and dedication, so those who are "gifted" pick up the skills easier then those who are "mundane".
I have learnt from groups etc and have never felt alone for too long.......'mundanes' ? ....lol .....perhaps the 'gift' of the 'mundane' is they know enough for the time being ? lol
Uzziel, yes being an empath is different from being a psychometric although the 2 can work hand in hand together.
An empath's abilities lie in the detection and/or manipulation of emotions or feelings, whether from people or objects. A psychometric divines the past from an object - this may be in visions or in emotions, depending on where your skills lie.
For example, a psychometric with visual abilities will pick up a watch and see it's past with someone who was murdered. A psychometric with empathic abilities will pick up the same watch and feel maybe overwhelming terror, fear, hopelessness, etc.
Drakontion,
I like your explanations of psychometric. What would the ability to hold an object that belongs to a person and be able to tell draw information on the present about that person like a Psychic detective. When I was a teenager a friend of mine ran away. Her parents contact the police and also contacted a psychic. The psychic told them to bring an item belonging to my friend. The Psychic was able to tell them that she saw white pills, and that my friend was not far away. This all proved to be true once my friend was found. She had indeed been taking white pills and was found in two townships away.
Isilmea, that is a great ability and it is using clairvoyancy as well as psychometry. The psychometry picks up on the information of the person, then the clairvoyant part sees the future or present of the person, not just the past.
So Cilit Bang is the psychometric's/empaths kryptonite then?
My Great Aunt could do this. She often asked for a person's ring to "read" them. She did it once for me and it was amazing what she was able to glean from it. i had not seen her in over a year...and she was right on target.
I have heard of this also,My littlest can do this when she touches something she can tell what happened or whats going on and what went on,
