Greetings,

I've read from a few sources both fiction and otherwise, about natural (born) Lycanthropy being carried only in the male gene-pool...

Can anyone validate this, or put together an argument against it?

Lycanthropy has been seen for centuries as a mutation of the male imperative... a testosterone induced mutation leading to heightened violence and sexual depravity... rape was seen in medieval times as motivated by lycanthropy... the Ulfhednar sect of the vikings used to dress in wolfskins and exalt each other to terrifying psychotic violence... as much to their own side as to the enemy (which is often why they were given the honour of leading the attacks)... this led communities that had been attacked to believe that they had been visited by wolfmen... those that cite the Native American tales of wolfmen to rebut this forget the attacks of the northmen on the skraelings (native americans)... interestingly later in their culture native americans began to emulate the Ulfhednar...

Possible. I've never heard of female Lycans. But would this be valid for all shapeshifters?

Shapeshifters are not lycans... shapeshifters are creatures of will... lycans are creatures of urge... I see no reason why females cannot be lycans... nymphomaniacs were thought, like werewolves, to be ruled by the moon... and there are the feminist hairy armpit mob who embrace the period as being evidence of a synergy with the moon...

I can't see Lycanthropy being only subject in the male genes. I have never heard of this.

Nymphs can sometimes be controlled by the moon, but just about everything is. I don't see what this has to do with Lycans.

So can you say that Lycans and shapeshifters can be seen as similar when it comes to controlling their change from one form to the next?

well the change for my kind is more intence i think because your whole being is being change.that why a lot of pups lose control and hurt people. A shapeshifter have control of the animal they turn into, As do we but it is a learned.

I guess it is possible that the gene could be carried just by the male, like haemophilia, but as Lajah said, there are female lycans too, so I reckon it's probably more like both genders can be carriers but only produce a lycan offspring if two carriers mate.

I don't understand how this could be possible. Women are the bearers of the young, they are the ones who carry and pass on most of the genes to the young. This does not seem to be a viable idea.

Harmione
I understand your logic women do pass on stuff through birth, however men also have an input and a line of males can be traced and this is what one is talking of

I guess I would have to believe in lycans in order to determine if they were male only.

as far as i know there can be pure female lycans as well as males however it is the male bloodline from where lycanthropy came from and i can see how the missunderstandig of it only comming from males came about

So what you're saying is although it is found in women, it did in fact originate in men.

That very well may be true, lycans are based on increased testosterone along with mutable genetics. But I'm sure with sucj a mutable nature, there must be exceptions.

Garbage. Women can be just as dominating as men. Alpha bitch; ever heard of it? Not common, but they do exist.

Still in the eyes of society we are weaker. Our motives seem to be not understood; extreme because the logic is ours and maybe emotional, logical or stratigical. Sometimes it is all three; but our pissing matches often are not as loud as the male counterparts. Maybe that is why we are overlooked, we tend to be swift when we act.

lavisbre I see what you are saying but the fact is that it is harder to trace a maternal line but also more accurate due to the fact that only the woman knows who the father is in most situations.

There are things in normal medicine which seem to be passed from father to son, without affecting daughters.

I have an eye condition which causes the surface of the eye to break down. My brother has it. My father has it. And My Grandfather has it. But my sister, for example... doesnt.

Hence an example of how something can be male-dominated.

Considering All Immature 'Zytgots' Are female. All Humans/animals/mammals Are predominantley Femae before the sex changes in utero, I see it is posssible that there are female Lycans.. I happen to know An Alfa-Female.. She is VERY feisty and is VERY akin to 'Of Wolf'. She is on this site too.

I just think it is far less common.

well I have always heard that someone was transformed into a werewolf by being bitten by one. Of course I could be wrong, but I think I agree with the theory that was stated before in this thread, that people who were attacked by vikings dressed in wolf skins had the misconception that they had been attacked by werewolves and that is how the myth got started. I am not sure if I necessarily believe in this theory or if the were wolf exists at all, I guess after I read more on the subject I will form my own opinnion and return later to state it here.
